That is a concurrent-player peak, not an average. The available figures do not establish that average player counts rose tenfold.
What the September 2026 player count shows
SteamDB lists 120,975 as The Witcher 3’s all-time peak concurrent players on Steam, reached September 29, 2026, the Remastered release date. Concurrent players are people playing at the same time; a peak is the highest simultaneous count recorded, not an average over a day, week, or month. SteamDB’s chart is specific to Steam and does not count players on consoles or other PC storefronts.

GamesRadar+ reported a live Steam count of 120,324 while covering release day. That was a momentary snapshot taken as the article was being written; it is distinct from SteamDB’s final recorded peak. GamesRadar also cited a prior Steam peak of 103,000 in January 2020. Both figures are historical peaks, so comparing them does not establish a change in average player counts. GamesRadar+’s report provides that release-day context.
Why the “10x average” claim is unverified
A tenfold increase in average players requires comparable averages: the same platform and metric, plus stated before-and-after periods. For example, a release-month average would need to be compared with a defined pre-release month or other equivalent baseline. The accessible SteamDB figures identify a peak, but do not provide the before-and-after averages, baseline, or observation window needed to calculate that multiplier.

- Not established by that peak: a tenfold rise in average players, total unique players, or the game’s audience across all platforms.
So the release clearly coincided with a substantial Steam return, but the specific claim about a 10x increase in average player counts should be treated as unverified unless a dataset supplies matching averages and a defined comparison period.
Which release brought players back?
The September 29, 2026 launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is separate from the game’s earlier next-gen Complete Edition update, released December 14, 2022. The official 2022 announcement described that update as free for existing owners and detailed improvements including ray tracing, DLSS and FSR support, faster loading, camera and interface options, photo mode, integrated community mods, quest fixes, Netflix-inspired content, and cross-progression. It was a distinct release event, not the 2026 Remastered launch.

The official 2026 release notice says Remastered became available September 29, 2026, as a free upgrade for existing owners. It lists GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, and says Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are included. The Steam count, however, remains a Steam-only measure; the announcement does not turn it into a cross-platform player total.

CD PROJEKT’s annual report covering 2022 said the next-gen release had a positive effect on sales revenues. It also reported that digital channels accounted for 96% of The Witcher 3 sales in the 2022 reporting period. Those are commercial figures from a different release period, not evidence of 2026 player counts or of a tenfold increase in averages. The 2022 annual report describes that sales context.
