1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo make a 24/7 white noise livestream with a dark screen, create an encoder-based broadcast in YouTube Studio and send it a black or near-black video feed plus white-noise audio you own or have permission to use. Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in your encoder, start the feed, then go live in Live Control Room. You can run an encoder on a computer; YouTube does not require dedicated encoder hardware. One important limitation: a single stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive.
Before you start: check channel eligibility and prepare your feed
- Your channel must be verified, have no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days, and meet YouTube’s minimum age requirement of 16 for live streaming. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Choose an encoder method. YouTube supports streaming with an encoder and documents hardware use, but does not require a dedicated hardware encoder. A computer running streaming software is one possible setup.
- Prepare a dark visual and white-noise audio. The cited YouTube setup guidance does not prescribe a particular black-frame generator or noise-synthesis method, so use tools you know how to operate and verify the output before going live.
- Use audio and visuals you created or have permission to use. Keep records of any licenses, and describe the sound accurately in the broadcast title and description.
How to make a 24/7 white noise livestream on YouTube with a black screen
- Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go live, and choose the encoder workflow. Set the title, description, audience setting, and other available stream details.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. YouTube provides these in the stream setup. Enter them in the streaming software’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast.
- Configure the video and audio sources. Set the video source to a black or near-black image and the audio source to your cleared white-noise recording or synthesis. Check that the image is actually dark, the noise is audible, and the audio is not clipping or unexpectedly silent.
- Start sending the feed. Start the encoder and wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Confirm that the preview shows the intended dark screen and that audio is present.
- Go live and monitor the result. Use the go-live control when the selected workflow requires it. Check the YouTube player as well as the encoder output, and monitor for silence, clipping, unintended imagery, or disconnection. Reconnection controls vary by encoder and setup; YouTube’s general guidance does not define one universal 24/7 recovery procedure.
YouTube’s encoder workflow and stream-key instructions are in its guide to creating a live stream with an encoder.
Keeping the stream running overnight
A local encoder depends on the computer, power, software, and internet connection remaining available. A power cut, network interruption, software crash, or accidental shutdown can stop the feed. Before leaving it unattended, check that the computer will not sleep, the encoder is stable, the connection is reliable, and you know how to restart the broadcast after an interruption. You can use optional encoder hardware instead of a computer, but YouTube’s guidance does not endorse a particular device or establish that hardware will make a stream interruption-proof.
If a continuous stream is more important than maintaining a local recording, compare operating options by setup effort, recovery after a power or network interruption, recording capability, and total equipment cost. YouTube does not publish a benchmark that establishes one setup as best for every channel.

Will YouTube save a 24/7 live stream?
Do not rely on one 24/7 broadcast to become a complete replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a dependable copy, record locally and consider ending and restarting broadcasts in sessions shorter than 12 hours. See YouTube’s archive guidance and its recommendation to keep a local backup.
Copyright, reused content, and monetization
Copyright checks can interrupt a live broadcast
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the feed with a placeholder and warn you; if the matched content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. Even if you have licensed material, the rights owner may need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. For this format, original noise audio and an original dark visual are the more straightforward way to reduce avoidable copyright problems. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Monetization is not guaranteed
YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams. Its policy says monetized content should be original and authentic, rather than mass-produced, generic, or repetitive; YouTube clarified on July 15, 2025, that its inauthentic-content policy includes repetitive or mass-produced content. A static image paired with repeating noise warrants careful consideration, but the policy does not state that every ambient stream is automatically ineligible or approve this exact format in advance. Do not assume that a particular presentation will qualify. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
For channels that are eligible, possible live-stream revenue features include ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve, and eligibility and policy status still matter. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.
