Dundee mobile-game developer Outplay Entertainment Ltd returned to profitability in 2025 after reshaping its business, according to reporting on the company’s accounts. Average employee numbers fell from 108 in 2024 to 91 in 2025—a reported 16% decline—but the available figures do not establish that 17 people were made redundant.
What happened at Outplay Entertainment?
The Herald Scotland reported that Outplay lodged unaudited abridged accounts for the year ended 31 December 2025 and returned to profitability. Its accessible report does not specify the profit measure or the amount. Herald Scotland’s report
The workforce change refers to average employee numbers, not a confirmed count of redundancies. Secondary coverage summarizing the accounts gives the averages as 108 in 2024 and 91 in 2025, a 16% reduction. A change in average headcount does not by itself establish how many people, if any, were directly laid off.
What do the reported accounts figures show?
Streamline Feed’s account of the abridged filing also reports that shareholders’ funds increased from £3.7 million in 2024 to £3.9 million in 2025. These figures are secondary reporting, and the underlying filing was not independently reviewed here; they should not be treated as a verified breakdown of Outplay’s results.

The available Herald report confirms a return to profitability but does not identify whether that means operating profit, profit before tax, or another measure. Without the filing’s defined figures, it is not possible to compare the scale or basis of profitability with another year.
How did Outplay explain the reshape?
Streamline Feed attributes to Outplay director Doug Hare the explanation that the company reshaped its business in early 2024 after a difficult 2023 and continued investment in new games. The remarks are reported secondhand and have not been independently confirmed against the original Herald article.
