It is a temporary, game-specific role—not evidence that Wicks has become the Eagles’ permanent WR1.
Why Wicks is expected to lead Philadelphia’s receivers
NFL.com reported that Smith was ruled out and that Wicks would become the Eagles’ No. 1 receiver in Smith’s absence. Philadelphia’s initial 2026 roster lists Wicks as a receiver, but the roster itself does not rank the wideouts; the expected lead role comes from the Week 4 availability report. NFL.com’s report describes the specific matchup role.
Wicks is an Eagle, not a Packers player. Green Bay announced his trade to Philadelphia on April 13, 2026. His previous Packers production—108 receptions, 1,328 yards, 12.3 yards per catch and 11 touchdowns over three seasons through 2025—is career background, not his 2026 Eagles output. Green Bay’s trade announcement provides those career totals.
Wicks’ production through three games
Before the Rams game, Wicks had nine receptions for 179 yards and one touchdown through Philadelphia’s first three games, averaging 19.9 yards per catch, according to NFL.com’s 2026 statistics. That is a notable per-catch average, but it comes from a three-game sample and does not establish how much work he will receive against Los Angeles. The available statistics do not state his target total, so a catch rate cannot be calculated from them.

Other absences thin the passing options
The receiving situation is not limited to Smith’s absence. NFL.com reported that Hollywood Brown and tight end Dallas Goedert were also sidelined, each for a second consecutive game; Goedert was listed with a knee issue. Smith’s hamstring injury is a separate absence. The Rams’ official injury report also lists Smith and Goedert among Philadelphia’s players ruled out, but does not independently confirm Brown’s status.
What the WR1 label does—and does not—tell you
Wicks’ expected lead position points to an opportunity created by Smith’s absence, especially with other established pass-catching options unavailable. It does not provide a target projection, snap-share estimate, route breakdown or guarantee of production. His three-game receiving line offers context, not a dependable forecast for one game.

For fantasy decisions, treat the news as a potential increase in opportunity rather than a guaranteed start.
