The Denver Gazette reported on October 2, 2026, that the Denver Broncos released wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey to open a spot on the 53-man roster for fullback Adam Prentice. The report said the NFL transaction-wire entry had not yet appeared when it was published, so the move is attributed here to the Gazette rather than presented as independently confirmed by the league.
Why did Denver release Lil’Jordan Humphrey?
According to The Denver Gazette’s October 2 report, Denver signed Prentice from its practice squad to the 53-man roster and released Humphrey to make room. The Gazette said the release was announced Friday, but the corresponding NFL transaction-wire listing was expected Saturday and was not yet available at publication.
Could Humphrey return to Denver’s practice squad?
The Gazette described Humphrey as a candidate to replace Prentice on the practice squad. That was a possibility, not a completed signing: the report did not establish that Denver subsequently added him there.
Humphrey’s recent Broncos history
Denver re-signed Humphrey to a one-year contract on March 12, 2026, according to the Broncos announcement. He had returned to Denver midway through the 2025 season after beginning the year with the New York Giants.

There is a discrepancy in the published regular-season games-played totals: the Broncos profile lists 68, while NFL.com lists 69. The catch, yardage and touchdown totals match, so those are the more consistent career figures to use.
