Freddy Fazbear has arrived in Fortnite, turning a fan meme from late 2021 into an unexpectedly accurate prediction. The image grouped Freddy with Goku, Darth Vader and Sonic—four characters whose presence together once captured just how improbable Fortnite’s crossover roster could seem.
What was the Freddy Fazbear Fortnite meme?
According to MeriStation, a fan image posted on X in late 2021 brought together Goku, Freddy Fazbear, Darth Vader and Sonic. It was a joke about Fortnite’s increasingly unpredictable roster, not an official announcement or a real in-game lineup at the time.
The joke worked because the characters came from very different corners of pop culture. Goku represented anime, Darth Vader a major film franchise, Sonic video games, and Freddy the horror series Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNAF). Putting them in one Fortnite-style lineup made the game’s expanding range of collaborations the punchline.
How did the meme become real?
The image’s premise came true in stages. MeriStation notes that Goku and Darth Vader had already entered Fortnite before Sonic and Freddy became part of the same 2026 season. On October 1, 2026, Fortnite’s FNAF content brought Freddy into the game, completing the meme’s central idea years after the image appeared.

Fortnite’s account acknowledged the moment with “dreams really do come true ♥️,” as reported by MeriStation. The line made the connection to the old fan joke explicit, while the original image remained a fan-made prediction rather than a past official crossover.
Why did fans expect FNAF to cross over with Dead by Daylight?
The Fortnite outcome was not an obvious one. In July and August 2024, alleged leaks and a cryptic post from FNAF creator Scott Cawthon fueled speculation that a planned FNAF crossover would be with Fortnite. But the August 5 announcement named Dead by Daylight instead, according to the chronology documented by Know Your Meme. That detour helps explain why a Fortnite collaboration remained wishful thinking for some fans even after the meme had circulated for years.

The meme was never a forecast with a release date. Its appeal came from how far-fetched the combination seemed: four characters from unrelated franchises sharing the same game. As Fortnite added more licensed characters over time, the image became a shorthand for the game’s capacity to bring unlikely guests together. Freddy’s eventual arrival made the joke feel prophetic, while the 2024 Dead by Daylight announcement shows how easily fans could have guessed the wrong destination.
