A 25-year-old dual UK/Iranian national arrested in Westminster over events at RAF Fairford has been released on bail, Counter Terrorism Policing said on 3 October 2026. Police said searches of two properties in the area had concluded and the investigation was continuing. They did not disclose what the searches found or why the suspect was bailed.
What happened to the UK-Iranian suspect?
Counter Terrorism Policing said the man was arrested in Westminster, London, on 1 October on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006. The arrest was connected to events at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire on 27 September. Police have not named him.
In its 3 October update, police said he had been released on bail and that searches of two properties in the same area had concluded. The force said the investigation into the circumstances surrounding events in Gloucestershire was continuing. Counter Terrorism Policing’s update
Why was the suspect released on bail?
The police update confirms the release but does not explain the decision or set out any bail conditions. Bail is not a finding of innocence or guilt. The statement describes an arrest on suspicion; the reviewed reporting does not say the Westminster suspect has been charged, convicted or found guilty.

What did police find in the Westminster searches?
Police confirmed that searches of two Westminster-area properties had ended, but did not publish their findings. The official update also gives no detailed account of the suspect’s alleged conduct. It is therefore not established from the available statements what, if anything, investigators recovered from those addresses.
How does the arrest relate to the earlier arrests near RAF Fairford?
The Westminster suspect was the sixth person taken into custody in the investigation, according to the Associated Press. AP reported that five other men had been detained near RAF Fairford and released on bail. It also reported, citing police information, that petrol described as an accelerant was found in three vans linked to those five men and that no explosives were found. Those details concern the earlier arrests and do not establish the Westminster suspect’s role or what was found at the searched properties. Associated Press report on the arrests

Has Iran been linked to the RAF Fairford incident?
Possible foreign-state involvement is an investigative possibility, not an established conclusion. Vicki Evans, senior national coordinator for counter terrorism policing, told AP: “As we’ve made clear, we’re looking at all possible angles – including possible foreign state involvement.” Associated Press report on the investigation
AP also reported that Prime Minister Andy Burnham said there were “strong indications” Iran played a part, without providing details, and that Iran denied involvement. The sources reviewed do not set out the evidence behind that attribution or resolve the competing claims. Associated Press report on the Iran statements
