For a 24/7 rain ambience channel, choose a VPS by its monthly outbound-transfer allowance before comparing headline price or CPU. A continuous 4.5 Mbps stream is estimated to use about 1.4 TB of transfer in a month, so a plan with roughly 2 TB included gives more room than a low-cost plan with 500 GiB. Among the India-region options identified here, Amazon Lightsail and DigitalOcean are candidates to compare—not a proven cheapest choice. Verify the exact plan, region and final checkout bill before committing.
How much bandwidth does a 24/7 YouTube stream use?
At a steady bitrate, monthly outbound transfer is roughly the stream bitrate multiplied by the hours streamed. StreamNeo’s 2026 estimate puts a continuous 4.5 Mbps stream at about 1.4 TB per month. That is an estimate for the stated bitrate, not a guarantee for every stream: actual use changes with bitrate, stream interruptions and restarts.
Use the bitrate you expect to send, then leave headroom rather than selecting a plan that barely meets the estimate. The allowance may be presented in TB or GiB; check the provider’s unit and billing rules. StreamNeo’s comparison of July 2026 reference figures reports 500 GiB on a cited DigitalOcean US$4 tier, 2,000 GiB on a cited US$12 DigitalOcean tier, and 2 TB on a cited US$7 Linux Lightsail bundle. These are reference prices and allowances, not verified current India checkout totals. StreamNeo’s cloud-versus-PC cost calculator can help frame the comparison.
Can a small VPS loop a rain video?
Potentially, if the video is already encoded in a format and bitrate suitable for the stream. FFmpeg can use stream copy to loop and send compatible audio and video without encoding every frame again. That reduces the VPS’s encoding workload, but it does not prove that a particular low-cost plan will sustain the stream reliably. The actual setup still needs testing.

When stream copy is suitable
Use stream copy when the source file already has the codec, resolution, frame rate and audio format you intend to send. It avoids changing the media on the server; it does not reduce outbound bandwidth, which is driven by the stream bitrate and duration.
When you need more compute
If the VPS must change resolution, frame rate, codec or bitrate through re-encoding, its compute requirement rises. Decide those requirements before choosing the smallest instance. The available evidence does not establish tested performance for any specific plan, so do not treat a low CPU or price as proof that it will work.

Which budget VPS options should you compare in India?
Compare the plans on included monthly transfer, overage billing, India-region availability and final billed cost—not the advertised monthly price alone. The options below are candidates, not a performance ranking; no hands-on plan test or uptime verification is established.
| Option | What the available comparison indicates | What to verify before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Lightsail Linux VPS | StreamNeo’s July 2026 comparison cites a Linux bundle with 2 TB transfer. A secondary India comparison lists Mumbai as an available region. | Whether the exact plan is currently offered in Mumbai; included transfer; total India price, including tax and public IPv4. |
| DigitalOcean Droplet | StreamNeo’s July 2026 comparison cites a 2 TB tier. DigitalOcean’s official documentation says each Droplet plan includes an outbound allowance, excess outbound transfer costs US$0.01 per GiB, and transfer allowance is pooled at team level. Its API region documentation lists blr1 for some sizes. |
The allowance and current price for the exact plan and region, whether that size is available in Bangalore, and the final billed amount. Do not assume every Droplet has the same allowance. |
| StreamNeo managed streaming | A cloud alternative for someone who would rather upload a finished video than administer a VPS. It keeps a YouTube stream running from uploaded video. | Whether its workflow and current limits fit your channel; its plan details are below. |
The July 2026 price and allowance figures are comparisons, not a verified current India checkout comparison. Exact India prices, applicable taxes, currency conversion and current plan-region combinations need confirmation at checkout. DigitalOcean’s billing details are in its official bandwidth documentation; its region information is in the official API regions reference.

What should you check before renting a VPS?
- Calculate transfer from your real stream bitrate. Estimate a full month of continuous outbound traffic and add headroom for bitrate variation and restarts.
- Confirm the allowance and overage policy for the exact plan. For DigitalOcean, check the plan’s included outbound transfer and remember the documented US$0.01 per GiB excess charge and team-level pooling.
- Confirm the India region and total cost. Check that the precise plan is available in Mumbai or Bangalore as applicable, then review tax, currency conversion and public IPv4 costs in the final bill.
- Choose compute based on what the server must do. A compatible file sent with stream copy has different compute demands from a file that must be re-encoded. Do not assume either workload will perform well on an untested instance.
- Test the whole loop. Validate that the file repeats as intended, the outgoing stream stays connected, and the server recovers cleanly after a restart or interruption.
Is a VPS cheaper than a 24/7 streaming service?
There is no defensible universal winner without the exact VPS checkout total and the channel’s workflow. A VPS price is only part of the cost: include transfer overages, tax, currency conversion, public IPv4 and the time spent configuring, monitoring and recovering the stream. A managed service trades server administration for a service plan; compare the total costs and the value of that saved maintenance time.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a finished video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; it is one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams from uploaded videos, not camera livestreaming. Common planning mistakes
- Choosing by CPU or headline price first: estimate monthly transfer before comparing instances; a cheap allowance can be too small for continuous streaming.
- Assuming stream copy removes bandwidth costs: it avoids re-encoding, not the outbound traffic sent to YouTube.
- Treating a listed region as proof every plan is available there: confirm the exact size and allowance in the provider’s current selector or checkout.
- Ignoring the final bill: tax, currency conversion, IPv4 and transfer overages can change the comparison.
- Assuming an untested small VPS is adequate: there is no plan-specific benchmark here. Test the intended file and full stream workflow before relying on it.
