To play several videos one after another in an OBS stream, add them to a VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed on the computer running OBS; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. This creates a repeating playlist, but it does not by itself guarantee that an OBS stream will stay live 24/7.
Set up a multiple-video playlist in OBS
- Install VLC. OBS needs VLC installed for the VLC Video source to appear. Match the architecture: OBS’s documentation specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Open the scene you want to use. In OBS, select the scene, then click the + button in the Sources dock and choose VLC Video. OBS’s Sources Guide explains adding a source with the plus button.
- Add the video files. Open the VLC Video source’s properties and add each desired file to its playlist. Unlike the standard Media Source, VLC Video supports multiple media files in one source.
- Choose the playback order. Leave Shuffle Playlist off to play files in their listed order. Turn it on to randomize playback.
- Repeat the playlist. Enable Loop Playlist. When the last item finishes, OBS starts the list again.
- Set visibility behavior. Choose whether the source should stop and restart, pause and resume, or keep playing when hidden. If you switch scenes, pick the behavior that matches whether playback should continue in the background.
VLC Video or Media Source?
Use VLC Video when you want OBS to play a list of multiple files. Use Media Source when the scene needs one media file; its Loop setting repeats that file after playback ends.

OBS lists formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM for Media Source, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. Format support does not guarantee every file or codec will behave the same on every system, so test the actual files you plan to stream.
Check the settings that affect playback
- Loop Playlist: On repeats the playlist after its final file; OBS lists this as the default.
- Shuffle Playlist: Off plays in list order; on randomizes the order. OBS lists off as the default.
- Visibility behavior: Controls whether playback stops and restarts, pauses and resumes, or continues when the source is hidden.
- Network caching: The VLC source offers a network caching setting, with 400 ms shown as OBS’s documented default. That setting is relevant to network media; it is not a guarantee of reliable network playback.
- Audio and subtitles: VLC Video provides audio-track selection and subtitle controls. OBS documents subtitles as off by default.
Test before leaving an OBS stream unattended
- Play the full playlist at least once and confirm every file loads with the expected picture and sound.
- Let the final item finish and check that the playlist restarts.
- If you use multiple scenes, switch away and back to confirm the chosen visibility behavior.
- Check the OBS preview and then the platform’s own playback to verify the stream is receiving the intended video and audio.
OBS documents the source controls, but does not promise uninterrupted operation across operating systems, codecs, software updates, power failures, or network interruptions. A successful playlist test confirms playback under those conditions; it is not proof that a computer-based stream will remain live indefinitely.

Troubleshooting common playlist problems
VLC Video does not appear in the Sources menu
Install VLC, then reopen OBS and check the Sources menu again. If OBS is 64-bit, make sure VLC is 64-bit too.
A video will not play or has unexpected audio
Test that file by itself, then inspect the playlist and the VLC Video audio-track selection. A listed file format does not ensure every codec and system combination will work identically.

The playlist stops at the last video
Open the source properties and turn on Loop Playlist. Check that the playlist contains the intended items.
Playback order changes unexpectedly
Turn off Shuffle Playlist to retain list order.
Playback pauses or restarts after changing scenes
Review the source’s visibility behavior. Set it to keep playing while hidden if playback should continue across scene changes; use pause or stop behavior if that is what your scene workflow requires.
