First check YouTube’s Sleep Timer: it pauses the video after the duration you choose. If the timer is off, note exactly when playback stops. A recording may simply have ended; a phone’s battery or background-activity settings may also interrupt playback. Autoplay can start another video after one ends, but it does not extend the current rain recording.
Find out why playback stopped
The timing is a useful clue, not a guaranteed diagnosis. YouTube’s timer, the video’s endpoint and your device’s power settings are separate possible causes.
| When it stops | What to check |
|---|---|
| After a duration you selected | Check whether Sleep Timer is set to pause playback then. |
| At the end of the rain video | It may be a finite recording. Check its details or use a longer recording. |
| When the screen locks or YouTube is backgrounded | Check whether battery-saving or app background-activity settings are affecting playback. |
| At an apparently inconsistent time | Note the device, operating system, YouTube app or browser, whether the source is a recording or livestream, and whether stopping coincides with screen lock. |
Check YouTube’s Sleep Timer
YouTube Help’s computer instructions give this path: player Settings → Sleep Timer, then choose a duration. If a timer is already running, YouTube says it can be adjusted. Check that it is not set to a duration that ends while you are asleep. The Sleep Timer is meant to pause the current video; it is not a setting for keeping it playing indefinitely.
Check whether the rain source actually continues
If it is a recording
A recording has an endpoint. Check its listed duration and whether playback stopped there. Choose a recording long enough for the hours you need, or make a playlist if you want videos to follow one another.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If it is a livestream
A livestream may be a continuing source, but the available guidance does not establish that any particular rain stream will remain live all night. Check whether that stream is still live when playback stops; do not assume every rain video labeled as a stream has a guaranteed runtime.
Use Autoplay for a sequence, not to extend one video
YouTube describes Autoplay as starting another video after the current one finishes. Turn it on if you want a next video to begin, and check that the queue contains suitable rain audio. Autoplay does not stop the current recording from reaching its endpoint or guarantee that the next item will be the one you want.

If playback stops when your phone sleeps
Check whether Battery Saver is active and review your phone maker’s instructions for YouTube’s battery and background-activity settings. Google says Android Battery Saver may limit or turn off background activity, and that settings vary by device and version. Pixel guidance has separate controls for app background usage and screen timeout, but those exact menus should not be assumed on other Android phones.
Do not treat disabling battery optimization as a universal fix: the cause has not been established just because playback stopped, and relaxing background restrictions can increase battery use. If you share your phone model and operating system, whether you use the YouTube app or a browser, the type of source, and when playback stops, someone can give more specific steps.

For creators: keep a rain video live from the cloud
If you mean keeping your own prerecorded rain video live on a YouTube channel, rather than listening to someone else’s video, a cloud service is a different option from troubleshooting playback on your phone. StreamNeo is a YouTube-only service for looping uploaded videos as a live stream; it does not stream from a camera. This is a creator workflow, not a setting that prevents the YouTube app on a listener’s device from pausing.
Or let it run in the cloud
- Upload your rain recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud, so your computer does not have to stay on.
There is one flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers. StreamNeo can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. Visit StreamNeo for details, then start the free day.

Common problems and what to try
- A timer appears to be off, but playback still pauses: Check whether the recording ended or the device restricted background activity; these are separate possibilities.
- The next video does not start: Check Autoplay and the queue. Autoplay concerns what happens after a video finishes, not whether the current item keeps playing.
- It stops when you lock the screen: Check Battery Saver and device-specific background settings. The exact controls depend on the phone and operating-system version.
- It stops at different times: Record the source type, device, app or browser, screen-lock state and approximate stop time. Those details help distinguish an endpoint from a timer or device restriction.
