To repeat one rain-sounds video during a YouTube Live broadcast, add it to an OBS scene as a Media Source and enable Loop in that source’s properties. Keep the source visible, confirm its audio reaches the OBS mixer, connect OBS to YouTube with the stream details shown in YouTube Studio, and test before going live. You need permission to broadcast both the video and its sound.
Before you set up the stream
- Prepare a local video file. OBS Media Source supports local video and audio formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, MP3, AAC, and WAV. For a rain video with sound, use a video file that contains the audio you intend to broadcast.
- Check the rights to both parts. YouTube’s livestream terms require you to have the necessary rights to the live content, including music licensing rights where applicable. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; it may replace a stream with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate it if the material remains. Even licensed content can be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and its guidance on copyright issues with live streams before broadcasting.
- Confirm your channel can stream. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction during the preceding 90 days. Streamers must be at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
These are YouTube’s stated platform requirements. The cited guidance does not establish the India-specific tax or broadcast obligations that may apply to an individual creator.
Loop one rain video in OBS
- Add the file to the active scene. In OBS, select the scene you want to use. In the Sources dock, choose the add-source control, then select Media Source. OBS explains how to add sources in its Sources Guide.
- Select the video and enable looping. In the Media Source properties, choose the local rain video file and turn on Loop. Confirm the source is visible in the scene so it can appear in the broadcast. OBS’s Media Sources guide describes the supported formats and the Loop option, which restarts the file after playback completes.
- Check the sound. Let the file play and watch the OBS audio mixer. Confirm the source’s audio meter responds and that the sound is present in the stream mix. If the video plays but the meter does not move, check the file’s audio track and the source’s audio settings before going live.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In YouTube Studio, create or select an encoder stream and use the stream settings YouTube provides to connect OBS. YouTube describes encoder streaming and explains that a stream key lets an encoder send a feed to YouTube in its live-streaming overview and stream settings guide. Treat the stream key as private; use the current key and settings shown for your YouTube stream.
- Preview, test, then start. Check that the picture fills the intended scene and that the rain audio is audible without clipping. YouTube Studio provides a stream preview; verify it before starting the broadcast. OBS recommends checking settings and doing a short test in its Quick Start Guide.
Loop a playlist instead of one file
If you want several rain recordings to play in sequence, OBS provides a VLC Video source with a Loop Playlist option. Add that source to the scene, select the files for the playlist, and enable playlist looping in its properties. This differs from a single Media Source: VLC Video handles a list of files, but it requires VLC to be installed. Match architectures as well—64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS documents these options in its Media Sources guide.
Copyright, monetization, and YouTube rules
Rights apply to rain recordings too
Natural-sounding rain is not automatically free to use. The audio recording and the accompanying visuals may each have a rights holder. YouTube’s terms say the content provider represents that it has the necessary worldwide rights for exploitation on Google services. Keep permission or license records, and check whether a license covers live streaming and the territories in which the stream is available.

A loop does not guarantee monetization
YouTube lists ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and memberships as live-stream earning options, subject to channel eligibility and feature availability. Monetization policies also apply to live streams. For ads, a monetized channel must turn monetization on for the stream, and ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. A repeating rain video by itself does not establish that a channel or stream qualifies for monetization. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance and channel monetization policies.
Troubleshoot common problems
- The video stops at the end. Open the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For multiple files, use VLC Video and confirm Loop Playlist is enabled.
- The picture appears, but there is no rain sound. Check that the chosen file has an audio track, then watch the OBS mixer while it plays. Verify the source audio is included in the stream mix and check the YouTube preview before broadcasting.
- The OBS preview is blank or the wrong scene is live. Select the intended scene and ensure the Media Source is enabled and visible in that scene. Confirm the selected file path is correct.
- OBS cannot play the playlist. VLC Video depends on VLC being installed. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC; otherwise, use a single Media Source for one file.
- YouTube interrupts or replaces the broadcast. Check YouTube Studio for stream warnings and review the rights for both the rain audio and visuals. A license alone may not prevent interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded rain videos without leaving OBS or a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud service for 24/7 YouTube streams. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud; it does not broadcast a live camera feed.
