You can run prerecorded video as a YouTube livestream using an encoder: prepare a rights-cleared video or playlist, connect an encoder to YouTube Live Control Room, preview the feed, and start streaming. The encoder can run on your own computer or in the cloud. Before you schedule a continuous channel, enable live access, plan for outages and monitoring, and make sure the material meets YouTube’s rules—especially if you hope to monetize it.
What you need before starting
YouTube supports encoder-based livestreaming, and its encoder directory lists OBS as open-source streaming software and Gyre as a cloud-based tool described for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams. A directory listing is not a guarantee that a particular nonstop loop will be approved, remain uninterrupted, or earn money. Your account, content, connectivity, and ongoing compliance still matter.
- A YouTube channel that is verified and eligible to livestream.
- A video library you have the necessary rights to stream and archive, including music and artwork.
- An encoder workflow: a computer running streaming software, or a cloud service.
- A stable upload connection and a plan to monitor the live feed and respond to failures.
YouTube’s streaming guidance and encoder directory are available in its live encoder help and live streaming setup guidance.
Enable livestreaming on your channel
- Verify the channel. YouTube requires a verified channel to livestream.
- Check restrictions. The channel must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- Confirm the streamer’s age. YouTube requires livestreamers to be at least 16.
- Enable live access early. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave it until launch day.
Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live streaming help before scheduling.

Choose how to send prerecorded video to YouTube
An encoder takes the video feed and sends it to YouTube. For a continuous prerecorded stream, decide where the encoder will run and who will operate and monitor it. YouTube’s directory lists OBS, a free open-source software encoder, and Gyre, which it describes as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. These listings are options, not comparative endorsements.
| Approach | Where it runs | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Local software encoder, such as OBS | On a computer you control | You manage the computer, power, network, encoder setup, and monitoring. YouTube lists OBS as open-source software for recording and live streaming. |
| Cloud service, such as Gyre | On the provider’s cloud infrastructure | Review the provider’s current terms, operating requirements, cost, and availability in India. The YouTube listing does not establish those details or guarantee uninterrupted operation. |
| StreamNeo | In the cloud | For a YouTube-only stream of uploaded videos, StreamNeo keeps the stream running without a computer or home connection staying on. Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. |
Whichever workflow you choose, it does not remove the need to check the live event, monitor playback, and use content you are entitled to stream.

Set up and launch the livestream
- Prepare the video or playlist. Choose the prerecorded material you intend to play, and check its video, audio, music, artwork, and other rights before putting it on a public stream.
- Create or schedule the live event in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live, and use the Live Control Room to set up the stream. YouTube may change Studio labels; follow the current on-screen workflow if they differ.
- Connect the encoder. Use the stream settings and stream key shown for the event in Live Control Room. Enter the key only in the encoder or service you control; treat it like a password. Do not share it publicly or reuse a key if you suspect someone else has access.
- Configure your encoder or cloud service. Select the intended video source or playlist and the output settings supported by your source, connection, and YouTube’s current guidance. Avoid assuming a setting used for one resolution or frame rate will suit every video.
- Start the encoder feed and preview it. Check the Live Control Room preview before starting the public event. Confirm that the correct video and audio are playing and that the event is accessible from your channel or watch page.
- Check on more than one device. YouTube recommends checking accessibility from channel/watch pages and mobile. Verify that viewers can hear the audio and see the picture as intended.
- Monitor while live. Watch for missing audio, frozen or degraded video, encoder disconnections, and platform alerts. A continuous schedule still needs an operator or a recovery plan.
For current encoder setup instructions and platform-specific recommendations, use YouTube’s encoder setup help. The exact bitrate and output configuration depend on the resolution and frame rate you choose; follow the current table and recommendations there rather than applying a universal value.
Plan for stable operation
YouTube recommends upload capacity greater than the total stream bitrate, with 20% headroom. Add up the outgoing bitrate for the stream or streams using the connection, then make sure available upload capacity exceeds that total with the recommended margin. A connection that only just matches the encoder bitrate leaves little room for fluctuation.

- Use a reliable network connection and test the actual upload path before launch.
- Set up the event in advance and preview the feed in Live Control Room.
- Keep monitoring audio and video after the stream starts; do not assume that a successful preview guarantees a day-long feed.
- For a local encoder, decide who can restart the computer, encoder, or router if something fails. An optional UPS may bridge a brief power cut for local equipment, but it cannot provide internet service and is not a YouTube requirement.
- For a cloud encoder, check the provider’s own operating requirements and recovery behavior. Cloud hosting removes the need to keep your home computer running, but it does not eliminate platform, content, or monitoring responsibilities.
YouTube’s guidance on upload capacity, advance setup, preview, and monitoring is in its streaming tips.
Check copyright and monetization rules before looping
Use material you have the right to stream
You are responsible for securing the rights needed for the livestream and any archive. YouTube’s livestream terms explicitly include music rights and require compliance with applicable laws and regulations. A video being online, licensed for personal listening, or available to download does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. Review the YouTube Terms of Service and obtain rights for the actual use you intend.

A continuous loop is not automatically monetizable
YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams. The platform expects original, authentic content rather than material that is mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative. On July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified that it renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content”; it said repetitive or mass-produced content had been ineligible and that its reused-content policy did not change. That clarification does not mean every loop is automatically disallowed, nor does adding a small overlay or occasional commentary guarantee eligibility. YouTube evaluates the channel and content under its policies. Read the current channel monetization policies.
India-based channels must qualify for YPP
For ad revenue, YouTube’s India-localized guidance lists a threshold of 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the preceding 365 days or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the preceding 90 days. You must also meet other eligibility requirements, apply, and be accepted into the YouTube Partner Program; reaching a threshold alone is not approval. Confirm current eligibility in YouTube Studio’s Earn tab and the India-specific YouTube Partner Program overview.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a livestream | Channel is unverified, restricted, below the age requirement, or live access has not finished activating. | Check verification and account status, confirm the streamer is at least 16, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | Wrong event settings or stream key, or the encoder is not sending. | Compare the encoder’s event settings and key with the current Live Control Room event. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in Studio and update the encoder. |
| Video stalls or disconnects | Upload capacity is insufficient or unstable, or the local encoder/network has failed. | Check the outgoing bitrate and available upload capacity; YouTube recommends 20% headroom above total stream bitrate. Inspect encoder and network status, then restore the feed and verify the preview. |
| Picture works but audio is missing or wrong | Audio source, encoder routing, or the video file may be misconfigured. | Listen to the Live Control Room preview and a viewer-facing playback before leaving the stream unattended; correct the source or routing and recheck. |
| Stream plays but monetization is unavailable or limited | The channel may not be in YPP, may not meet a feature’s conditions, or the content may not satisfy monetization policies. | Check the Studio Earn tab, relevant feature requirements, and the channel monetization policy. Do not treat stream duration or a loop as proof of eligibility. |
