NVIDIA does not officially list the RTX 4070 Super for DLSS Multi Frame Generation (MFG), but PC Gamer writer Jess Kinghorn reported that an unofficial unlock made games feel smoother on the card. In Kinghorn’s 2026 tests, average output frame rates rose substantially in four games. That does not make the modification equivalent to official support: higher output FPS can come with image artifacts, latency trade-offs, uneven results and anti-cheat risk.
Is Multi Frame Generation officially supported on the RTX 4070 Super?
No. NVIDIA distinguishes ordinary DLSS Frame Generation from Multi Frame Generation. Its DLSS capabilities page and DLSS FAQ list MFG for RTX 50 Series GPUs; NVIDIA’s developer page also identifies RTX PRO Blackwell hardware. NVIDIA lists ordinary Frame Generation for RTX 40 and RTX 50 Series. The RTX 4070 Super is in the RTX 40 Series, so MFG is not officially supported on it.
That means “not capable” is accurate only as shorthand for “not officially supported.” Unofficial modifications have exposed higher MFG multipliers on some Ada-generation cards, but results depend on the particular game and system. MFG is also distinct from NVIDIA Smooth Motion, a separate driver feature NVIDIA documents for RTX 40 Series in its NVIDIA App feature information.
What did the RTX 4070 Super tests show?
In a report published October 1, 2026, PC Gamer’s Jess Kinghorn said they tested an RTX 4070 Super at 1440p with High graphics settings, DLSS Balanced, and ray tracing or similar features disabled where applicable. Kinghorn used ReShade HDR Installer to unlock up to 4X, because support for higher multipliers varied between games, and limited testing to single-player titles due to anti-cheat concerns. The figures below are PC Gamer’s reported results for that setup, not universal benchmarks.

All figures are average FPS / 1% low, as reported by PC Gamer in 2026. The averages climbed at each tested setting, but 4X was not uniformly better on every measure: Cyberpunk 2077’s reported 1% low fell from 91 FPS at 2X to 86 FPS with the unlocked up-to-4X setting. That is a reminder that average generated output is only one part of playability.
Why can it feel smoother without responding like native FPS?
Frame generation creates additional displayed frames between rendered frames. Those extra frames can make motion look smoother, especially when a monitor can show them, but they do not turn the game’s underlying rendered frame rate into an equivalent number of responsive, natively rendered frames. A higher displayed FPS therefore does not guarantee lower input latency or better frame pacing.

Independent testing gives useful context without duplicating the exact RTX 4070 Super result. Tom’s Hardware tested the unofficial mod in Cyberpunk 2077 on cards ranging from RTX 4090 down to RTX 4070. It observed MFG above Ada’s officially supported 2X mode, but reported image “junk” near the bottom of the frame at 4X and higher. The publication did not notice perceptible pacing or delivery problems during its play session and said a high-refresh-rate G-Sync-Compatible monitor smoothed all but the worst issues. It also found latency and performance caveats, including unusual input-latency behavior at 1440p, and noted that Blackwell scaled better and had a latency advantage. NVIDIA’s developer documentation underlines why results should not be assumed to transfer across games or setups. Its Streamline programming guide says, “Multi frame support is dependent on the hardware and system configuration, and must be verified before use.” The guide says Dynamic MFG may be unavailable if MFG itself is unsupported, the driver is below version 595.41, or the application uses Vulkan; it describes Dynamic MFG as currently limited to D3D12. These are developer-documentation constraints, not a complete compatibility checklist for consumer mods.

What does the unofficial unlock involve—and what are the risks?
PC Gamer’s setup guide describes installing ReShade HDR Installer, selecting a supported game, adding its “RTX 40 MFG” and “OptiScaler” components, configuring a profile override, and enabling the applicable in-game option. The guide suggests Dynamic, “Up to 4x,” and target frame rate “Off” in the controls it describes, while noting that available options differ by game and that some users may need a different driver version. These are guide-specific steps, not NVIDIA instructions or a universal workflow. The PC Gamer setup guide recommends keeping the experiment to single-player games because injected modifications can trigger anti-cheat detection.
That warning matters: the mfg-unlock repository explicitly warns that DLL injection can result in account bans. Its author reports testing on one RTX 4070 Ti with driver 616.56 in two games, and says that expected compatibility with other Ada models is not confirmation. That is a separate implementation and self-reported test, not proof that it behaves like the setup in Kinghorn’s report. Do not use an injection-based modification in multiplayer or anti-cheat-protected games unless the game’s current rules and the mod’s instructions clearly allow it.

How to judge whether the smoothness is worth it
Compare like with like: the same game, resolution, graphics settings and driver, then consider more than average FPS. A useful evaluation includes:
- Rendered performance: note the base rendered frame rate alongside generated output, and compare 1% lows as well as averages.
- Responsiveness and pacing: assess input latency and whether motion feels consistent, rather than treating the displayed FPS counter as a measure of control response.
- Image quality: inspect fast motion and the edges of the frame at each multiplier; Tom’s Hardware reported bottom-of-frame artifacts at 4X and above.
- Compatibility and risk: record the game, rendering API, driver and mod build, and avoid anti-cheat-protected play.
- Display fit: consider whether your monitor’s resolution and refresh rate can make use of the extra output frames. Tom’s Hardware cautioned that the benefit is limited without a high-resolution or high-refresh-rate display.
Kinghorn’s report supports a specific, qualified impression: on one RTX 4070 Super setup, the unlocked mode felt smooth and raised reported average FPS in several single-player tests. It does not establish that every RTX 4070 Super, game or driver combination will behave the same way. For NVIDIA’s officially listed MFG support, the company points to RTX 50 Series hardware rather than RTX 40 Series.
