Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →There is no universal CPU or RAM minimum that guarantees a VPS can run a 24/7 YouTube stream. The right size depends on whether the server relays an already encoded feed or also encodes and processes video, plus the stream’s resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and number of simultaneous streams.
Choose the stream format first, calculate sustained outbound bandwidth with headroom, then test the actual workload on the VPS. If your goal is simply to loop uploaded recordings rather than operate a server, a cloud option such as StreamNeo can do that without a VPS.
What VPS specs matter most?
Think in terms of workload and sustained capacity, not a generic “streaming VPS” CPU or RAM label. A relay sending an already encoded feed does substantially less work than a server that encodes video, composites scenes, adds overlays, or renders content.
- Outbound network: It must continuously carry the combined bitrate of every stream, with headroom, within the provider’s transfer and throttling terms.
- CPU and memory: They must support the actual relay or encoding process. The official guidance does not establish a universal vCPU count or RAM amount for stable VPS streaming.
- Encoder availability: If you want hardware encoding, confirm the VPS actually provides a compatible GPU encoder; a generic cloud-vCPU listing does not establish that.
- Continuity controls: Review restart options, monitoring, service terms, and any transfer restrictions for 24/7 use.
OBS says CPU requirements vary with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. It also notes that hardware encoding moves work from the CPU to a specialized GPU component. Those principles help explain what to test, but do not turn any advertised core count into a guarantee. See OBS system requirements and OBS hardware encoding.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set the stream format before choosing a VPS
First define the number of simultaneous streams, output resolution and frame rate, codec, target bitrate, and whether the server will relay a pre-encoded feed or perform encoding, overlays, scene composition, or other processing. YouTube’s bitrate recommendations vary by codec and format, while the processing task affects compute needs.
For H.264, YouTube’s recommended ingest rates include the following. These are stream bitrates, not CPU requirements:

| Output format | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
| 2160p (4K) at 30 fps | 42 Mbps |
| 2160p (4K) at 60 fps | 50 Mbps |
These are YouTube Help recommendations; the accessed page does not state a publication year. AV1 and H.265/HEVC have different recommendations, so check YouTube’s live encoder settings for the exact codec and format rather than assuming the H.264 figures apply.
Calculate outbound bandwidth and transfer
Use the chosen ingest bitrate as the baseline for each stream. YouTube recommends 20% spare upload bandwidth and says total stream bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth. For a VPS, apply the headroom to sustained outbound capacity, then confirm that the host permits the resulting continuous egress and monthly transfer.

- Add stream bitrates. For simultaneous streams, total their outbound bitrates.
- Allow 20% headroom. Multiply the combined bitrate by 1.2. For example, one 1080p60 H.264 stream at YouTube’s recommended 17 Mbps calls for at least 20.4 Mbps of sustained outbound capacity under this calculation.
- Check the provider’s transfer allowance. A port-speed figure alone does not prove the host permits continuous use at that rate; check monthly transfer limits and throttling terms.
YouTube’s advice to “Leave a bit of room (20% recommended)” concerns the total stream bitrate and available upload bandwidth. See YouTube’s streaming tips and encoder guidance.
Use YouTube-compatible encoder settings
For RTMP or RTMPS ingest, YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video; up to 60 fps; AAC or MP3 audio; constant-bitrate encoding; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not over four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport to its servers. Check the current YouTube encoder settings before configuring your software, especially if you change codecs.

Test the actual workload rather than guessing at CPU and RAM
- Start with a short paid or trial VPS instance, if available. Use the same operating system, encoder or relay, source, output settings, and number of streams you intend to run.
- Test representative content. Include the motion and audio expected in normal use; a static test image may not reflect the real workload.
- Observe resource use over time. Monitor sustained CPU and memory, dropped frames, and YouTube’s stream health and messages.
- Adjust if it saturates or becomes unstable. Increase capacity or change the processing path, then repeat the test under the same conditions.
YouTube recommends testing with audio and motion like the intended event and monitoring stream health. OBS cautions that meeting basic compatibility requirements does not guarantee successful streaming. Neither source gives a general VPS minimum core count or memory figure; an exact configuration depends on the workload and the provider’s actual compute and network behavior.

A VPS can have adequate compute and bandwidth but still require operational safeguards. Before committing, check the provider’s restart controls, network-transfer limits, throttling rules, support, and service terms. The YouTube and OBS guidance supports representative testing and monitoring, but does not define a universal VPS uptime guarantee or failover setup; those depend on the host and your own configuration.

When a VPS is the wrong tool for a prerecorded loop
If the aim is to keep uploaded videos looping on a YouTube channel, you may not need to administer a VPS. YouTube’s verified encoder directory lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded video. That listing does not establish its current plans, operational suitability, or support for custom server-side processing, so verify those details independently. A managed service is not a substitute for a VPS when you need custom real-time rendering or other server-side work.
Or let it run in the cloud
For uploaded-video loops, StreamNeo is #1 as a cloud option: it keeps a YouTube stream running from the cloud at any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and the first day is free.
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home. There are no quality tiers, and StreamNeo streams the upload without re-encoding, up to 4K 60fps. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly: $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. To try it, start with StreamNeo.
