A cloud service handles playback and delivery from its infrastructure, but you should still plan for monitoring, recovery, and a separate recording if the stream must be preserved.
What you need before setup
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Platform rules can change, so check the current help page before you schedule a broadcast.
- A video file or playlist that the cloud service can play, plus any rights needed to stream its audio and video.
- A cloud streaming service that supports the source you plan to use and can send an encoder feed to YouTube.
- A YouTube stream server URL and stream key, unless the service connects to your channel through an authorized sign-in flow instead.
For a prerecorded music, gaming, or ambient-video channel, confirm the service supports looping and the file formats you intend to upload. Check storage, recovery behavior, monitoring, and recording options before relying on it for a long-running broadcast.
How do I set up a 24/7 YouTube live stream?
1. Enable livestreaming and check channel eligibility
In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go live. If this is the channel’s first livestream, YouTube may require activation time before you can broadcast. Resolve any verification or restriction issue before configuring the cloud service; otherwise, the service may send video successfully while YouTube refuses the stream.
2. Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio
Create or schedule a stream for an encoder. YouTube provides a stream server URL and a stream key. The URL identifies where the encoder sends video, and the key identifies the stream YouTube should accept. YouTube describes the key as similar to a password and address; treat it as a secret. Do not put it in public screenshots, posts, or shared setup documents. See YouTube’s stream settings help.

3. Connect the cloud service to YouTube
- In the cloud service, select YouTube as the destination or choose its encoder-output settings.
- If asked for an ingest server and key, paste the YouTube server URL into the server field and the stream key into the key field. Check for leading or trailing spaces.
- If the service offers a YouTube authorization flow, sign in through that flow and verify that the connected channel is the one you intend to use.
- Select the uploaded video or playlist, enable looping if that is the desired behavior, and save the configuration.
Keep the key inside the provider’s authorized connection or settings. If you think it has been exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the cloud service configuration.
4. Start with a private or unlisted test
Start the cloud output and wait for the incoming preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room. Confirm the correct video is playing, audio is present and in sync, and the intended stream is selected. Open the watch page on another device to make sure it is reachable with the privacy setting you chose. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend previewing and testing the setup before going live.

Once the feed is correct, change the visibility or scheduled event settings as appropriate and begin the public broadcast. Do not assume that a successful “start” message in the cloud service means YouTube is receiving a healthy feed.
5. Plan for monitoring and recovery
Decide how you will detect a frozen picture, missing audio, an unavailable source file, a dropped connection, or a provider restart—and who will respond. Test any backup or failover option rather than assuming that a second ingest address works automatically. YouTube’s setup guidance recommends checking the live preview, testing failover, verifying the live page, and monitoring audio and video quality.

A cloud host removes the need to keep your own computer online as the encoder; it does not establish that a service will never interrupt or restart. Continuous-session behavior is provider-specific. For example, Restream’s duration guidance warns that its server may undergo maintenance and restart during continuous sessions over 24 hours. That warning should not be generalized to other providers.

Will YouTube save a 24-hour livestream?
Do not rely on YouTube to preserve a complete 24-hour broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. The 12-hour guidance concerns archiving; it is not a statement that YouTube automatically ends a livestream at that point. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

If viewers need a durable replay, keep an independent recording or arrange separately managed shorter broadcasts. Before splitting a program, verify that your chosen service can schedule or restart it in the way you need. YouTube’s DVR guidance also warns that rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours.

Use only video and audio you own or are licensed to stream, and check the terms of any music, gameplay, or other material included in the loop. Repeating a file does not grant permission to broadcast it. YouTube’s copyright and monetization policies also apply to livestreams; a stream may be interrupted or restricted if it violates platform rules. Review the current rules in YouTube Studio and the relevant rights holder’s terms before scheduling a continuous feed.
Troubleshooting a cloud-to-YouTube stream
