First confirm your channel is eligible, clear the recording and performance rights, create the YouTube stream, configure and test the feed, and plan for interruptions. “24/7” is an operating plan—not a guarantee that YouTube, your internet connection, or your equipment will never go offline.
Before you start: check your channel and rights
Confirm livestream eligibility
YouTube’s current live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. The person livestreaming must be at least 16. Check your channel’s status in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room before preparing a launch; allow time to resolve any access or eligibility issue.
YouTube’s live-stream help page also states limits of 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key. These limits matter if you plan to run multiple feeds at once.
Get permission for the actual material
Clear the rights for each part of the program: the sound recording, the performers’ performance, the underlying compositions, and any image or video shown. A devotional or traditional subject does not automatically make a particular recording or performance free to use. Keep written permission and any license terms accessible while the stream is running.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. Its Help page says: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A license by itself may not prevent interruption: if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID, YouTube says the stream can still be interrupted. Ask the rights owner to allowlist the channel and retain confirmation. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Prepare a continuous kirtan program
Prepare a continuous, rights-cleared source for both audio and video. This could be a live encoder input or a sequence of uploaded recordings that plays continuously. A static or gently changing visual can accompany kirtan audio if you have permission to use it. YouTube’s platform guidance does not prescribe an ideal program length, playlist structure, or visual style; choose these as production decisions and make sure every item in the program is cleared for the intended use.

For an encoder-based setup, keep the source files or playback system, encoder, power, and network equipment together in a stable location. Test the entire program—including transitions and representative sound and motion—rather than only checking that a single clip plays.
Create a YouTube broadcast and connect your encoder
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a stream or schedule one there, and confirm that the channel is eligible to go live.
- Choose an encoder workflow. Connect an encoder such as OBS to the broadcast. YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes the incoming feed and its settings (
liveStream) from the viewer-facing event (liveBroadcast). This separation is useful context for developers, but you do not need to use the API to stream from an encoder. - Copy the stream key into the encoder. Use the key associated with the intended YouTube stream, keep it private, and avoid sharing screenshots or configuration files that reveal it. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room. Confirm that YouTube receives the feed and that stream health is acceptable before relying on the stream as a continuous broadcast.
YouTube’s API guide documents a 24/7 live-feed scenario in which a channel keeps a main feed live while starting a separate interview broadcast from the same stream. Set encoder video, audio, and connection settings
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. Its encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video options for RTMP/RTMPS, and AAC or MP3 audio. Use constant bitrate (CBR) encoding, and set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance for the full resolution, frame-rate, and codec tables.
Choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain
YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrates include 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are platform recommendations, not a universal minimum internet speed. Other resolutions, frame rates, and codecs have their own settings; select a bitrate based on the actual encoder configuration and sustained upstream capacity. Do not pick a high-resolution value before checking what your connection can reliably upload.

Use the same resolution and frame rate as the source where practical. For a mostly static visual with audio, there may be little benefit in choosing a higher frame rate than the material needs. Whatever settings you select, make a representative test and watch for dropped frames and stream-health warnings.

Run a controlled test
- Check that YouTube receives video and audio, and listen for clipping, silence, or abrupt changes between items.
- Watch the Live Control Room’s stream-health indicators while the encoder is running.
- Check the encoder’s dropped-frame indicator. OBS explains that rising dropped frames can indicate an unstable connection or one unable to sustain the configured bitrate; reduce the bitrate or improve the network connection, then test again.
- Verify the stream from a separate viewer device or browser, including the sound level and any visual overlays.
- Confirm that the program can continue through its intended sequence and return to the beginning if you have built a loop.
Assign someone to respond
A 24/7 schedule still needs monitoring and a recovery plan. Keep the encoder, source, power, and network equipment in a stable place; assign a person to respond to encoder failures, stream interruptions, and rights alerts. A UPS can protect local equipment from a short power interruption, but it cannot keep an internet connection or YouTube available. YouTube and OBS do not establish a particular uptime target or prescribe a single backup arrangement for this setup.

Common problems and fixes

| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | The encoder is not started, or it has the wrong stream key or server settings. | Check the selected broadcast and stream key in YouTube Studio, update the encoder configuration, and reconnect. Keep the key private. |
