Create or schedule a live stream, enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder, route the intended audio to it, then check the preview and stream health before and during the broadcast. First confirm your channel can go live and that you have the rights to stream each song and recording.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming available. YouTube says the channel must be verified, have no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and the person livestreaming must be at least 16. Check current eligibility in YouTube’s live-streaming guidance.
- A spare PC that can run an encoder continuously for the event, plus a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity.
- An encoder that supports YouTube’s selected ingestion protocol. YouTube’s instructions explain the connection workflow but do not endorse a specific encoder for this setup.
- The audio source: either prepared music playing on the PC or live vocals/instruments captured through a microphone or other audio equipment.
- Permission for both the musical composition and the particular recording or performance you intend to broadcast, including any archived replay.
You do not need a camera merely to send audio, but YouTube Live is a video stream. Plan an appropriate video output for the event and verify that the encoder sends it along with the audio.
Set up the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a live stream. Choose the visibility and event settings that fit your broadcast.
- Choose the encoder workflow and locate the server URL and stream key in YouTube Studio. The precise controls can change; follow the current YouTube encoder setup steps.
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not put it in the description, a public post, or an untrusted message.
Configure the spare PC and audio
Connect the encoder
- Open an encoder on the spare PC and select YouTube or the appropriate RTMP/RTMPS setup.
- Enter the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. YouTube recommends RTMPS where available.
- Set a video output the PC can encode reliably. A still image or other suitable visual can accompany prepared music; check that the encoder is actually sending a video feed.
Route the music you intend to broadcast
For prepared devotional tracks, select the intended application or system audio input in the encoder. Play a representative track and confirm that the meter moves and the sound appears in YouTube’s preview. Disable or silence notifications and unrelated system sounds so they do not reach the stream.
For live singing or instruments, connect the microphone or other audio equipment and select that input in the encoder. A USB microphone is optional for this live-performance path, not a requirement for routing prepared PC audio. Check levels, listen for distortion, and verify that any spoken introductions and quiet passages are audible.

Choose settings the PC and connection can sustain
YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265, and AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS. It recommends constant bitrate encoding, a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and stereo audio at 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. For audio, it lists AAC or MP3. Follow YouTube’s resolution- and frame-rate-specific video bitrate guidance rather than assuming one bitrate fits every output: encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Use a resolution and frame rate your particular PC can encode without dropped frames and your connection can upload steadily. The spare PC’s hardware and condition are unknown, so no preset can be guaranteed. If encoding stutters or the stream health deteriorates, reduce resolution or frame rate, then test again.

Test the complete stream before the event
- Check upload speed, not just download speed. YouTube advises leaving 20% headroom beyond the total stream bitrate; see its streaming tips.
- Start the encoder well before the scheduled event. Use music and movement representative of the actual broadcast rather than testing only a silent screen.
- Inspect the YouTube Studio preview for both picture and sound. Test the complete audio path, including song changes, pauses, any spoken sections, and possible desktop alerts.
- Confirm the stream health indicators are acceptable before going live, and keep monitoring them during the broadcast. YouTube’s live streaming tips cover preparation, preview, and hardware checks.
Clear rights for devotional music
Devotional subject matter does not automatically make a song or recording free to stream. Consider the rights in the underlying composition separately from the rights in the specific recording or performance. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for the live content, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants: Livestream terms and conditions.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match may cause a placeholder or warning, and continued use may lead to interruption or termination. Even if you have licensed music, YouTube says a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the live stream not to be interrupted. Archived broadcasts can also receive Content ID claims. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

- For music you own or commissioned, keep records covering the composition, recording, performers, and streaming permissions.
- For third-party recordings, confirm permission for the intended live broadcast, territory, and any archived replay, and ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting.
- Do not assume that a traditional, religious, freely available, or public-domain composition means a particular recording is also cleared.
This is practical platform guidance, not a legal determination about any particular song. Rights and permissions depend on the actual work, recording, territory, and use.
Troubleshoot common problems
