To turn on channel memberships, open YouTube Studio on a computer and go to Earn > Memberships > Get started, then follow the setup prompts and accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM) if asked. The tab appears only if YouTube considers your channel eligible. A 24/7 schedule does not require a separate switch: memberships are supported on horizontal and vertical live streams, but streaming continuously does not guarantee eligibility or approval.
Before you start: check eligibility
YouTube’s current eligibility overview lists these entry thresholds for memberships: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the previous 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours from long-form videos in the previous 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. These thresholds are only part of the requirements; meeting them does not by itself guarantee access. YouTube’s monetization overview and membership eligibility guidance describe additional criteria.
- Your channel must be in the YouTube Partner Program, and you must be at least 18.
- You must live in a location where channel memberships are available.
- Your channel and videos must meet YouTube’s membership rules. A channel set as Made for Kids, or one with a significant number of Made for Kids or otherwise ineligible videos, may not qualify.
- You must accept and comply with the applicable terms. Some music channels, including channels under SRAV contracts, are ineligible.
YouTube may review a channel before making the feature available. If you have just been accepted into the YouTube Partner Program, that review may take up to two days.
Turn on memberships in desktop YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio in a desktop browser using the channel that will offer memberships.
- In the left menu, select Earn.
- Open the Memberships tab. YouTube says this tab appears only if your channel is eligible.
- Select Get started and follow the on-screen setup.
- Accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM) if prompted.
- After activation, create your membership levels and perks. YouTube treats setup of levels and perks as a step after turning memberships on.

Use the YouTube Studio mobile app
In the YouTube Studio app, go to Earn > Memberships and follow the setup prompts. On Android, YouTube’s guidance says to look for Get started in the Memberships section if the Memberships card is not visible. The desktop route above provides the clearest sequence of setup steps.
What memberships mean for an always-on live stream
YouTube supports channel memberships on both horizontal live streams and vertical live feeds. The schedule itself does not create a special membership setting. Memberships let viewers make recurring monthly payments in exchange for members-only perks; creators may offer members-only live streams as a perk, subject to the applicable rules.

Decide which stream and benefits are for members. Turning on memberships does not automatically make your public 24/7 stream members-only. Check YouTube’s membership policies and perk requirements before promising benefits. Prohibited perks include downloads of content already available on YouTube, in-person one-to-one meetings, random-selection competitions or sweepstakes, and perks directed at or attractive to children.
If the Memberships tab is missing
- Check the channel and thresholds. Confirm that you are signed into the intended channel, it is in the YouTube Partner Program, and it meets the current subscriber, upload, and watch-time or Shorts-view thresholds.
- Check the other eligibility conditions. Review your location, age, channel audience setting, video eligibility, and applicable terms. Passing the numerical thresholds alone is not enough.
- Allow time after YPP acceptance. YouTube says its eligibility review can take up to two days after a channel is accepted into the Partner Program.
- Check both interfaces. On desktop, look under Earn > Memberships; in the Studio app, check Earn > Memberships and look for Get started.
- Do not treat continuous streaming as approval. YouTube documents memberships for live formats, but a 24/7 schedule does not override eligibility or policy review.
Keep a 24/7 stream running without leaving a computer on
Turning on memberships and keeping a stream online are separate tasks. If you run the stream yourself, your streaming setup still has to send video to YouTube; memberships do not provide or maintain that stream.

YouTube states that fan-funding features are not crowdfunding or donation tools. Review the current rules before describing membership payments or benefits to viewers.
