Yes. Turning off live chat replay does not, by itself, prevent viewers from sending Super Chats during a livestream. Replay controls whether chat appears alongside the stream archive after the broadcast; Super Chats are paid messages sent through live chat while an eligible stream is live. Viewers can send one if live chat is available and the channel and stream are eligible for Supers.
Chat replay and live chat are separate
YouTube describes live chat replay as a way to show chat alongside an archived livestream after it ends. Creators can turn replay off. Live chat, by contrast, is the conversation available during the broadcast, and creators can separately turn it on or off. So the replay setting concerns archived playback; it is not the control that determines whether viewers can chat live. YouTube Help: Moderate live chat
What has to be available for a Super Chat
- Live chat must be available. YouTube says live chat is available on watch pages, not embedded players. If a viewer is watching an embedded player, they may need to open the video’s YouTube watch page to access chat. Subscriber-only chat may also limit who can participate. - Supers must be enabled and the stream eligible. Super Chat is offered only on eligible live streams and Premieres for channels that meet YouTube’s requirements and have enabled Supers. Therefore, turning replay off does not guarantee that a Super Chat button will appear. YouTube Help: Turn Super Chat & Super Stickers on or off
- The viewer must be able to use the feature in that chat. Super Chats are paid, highlighted messages in live chat, sometimes pinned by the creator. They are not comments added to the archived replay. YouTube Help: Learn about live streams
How to send one in the YouTube app
For the YouTube app’s vertical live experience, YouTube’s instructions are:
- Open the live chat and tap the dollar sign.
- Select Super Chat and choose an amount.
- Optionally enter a message.
- Choose Buy and Send.

If the Super Chat option is missing
- Confirm that you are watching on the YouTube watch page and that live chat is open, rather than relying on an embedded player.
- Check whether the chat is restricted, such as by subscriber-only participation.
- Remember that replay being off is not the deciding setting. The channel and live stream must be eligible for Supers, and the creator must have enabled them.
