How to Stream Relaxing Music on YouTube Without the Video Ending

To keep relaxing music playing after a finite file ends, send the program through a YouTube Live encoder and set its audio source or playlist to repeat or continue. Pair the music with a still image in the encoder scene, then test the loop before going public. YouTube receives a continuing live feed; it does not make a finished video file loop for you.

What you need for a continuous music livestream

  • A YouTube channel with live streaming available and a stream created or scheduled in YouTube Studio.
  • An encoder that can send audio and a visual scene to YouTube. For a simple broadcast, that scene can use a still image; dedicated hardware is not required.
  • Music you have the rights to livestream, plus an audio source or playlist configured to continue or repeat after each track.

The loop behavior depends on the encoder or playback software you choose. YouTube’s general encoder instructions explain how to connect and end a stream, but do not prescribe a particular loop control. Check your software’s documentation and verify its behavior in preview.

Set up the stream and loop the music

  1. Create the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream. Confirm the stream’s intended visibility and details before going live.
  2. Connect your encoder. Copy the YouTube Live server URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it, and reset it if it is exposed.
  3. Build the scene. Add the music playback source and a static visual, such as an image you have permission to use. Make sure the scene sends both audio and video; preview it to catch a blank image, muted source, or incorrect crop.
  4. Configure continuous playback. Enable repeat or looping for the track or playlist, or use a playback source that advances through the intended playlist. The exact control varies by software. Test what happens at the end of a track and between tracks: the encoder must keep sending content if the live broadcast is to continue.
  5. Preview and test. Check that the image appears, the music is audible at a suitable level, and playback continues across a track ending. YouTube recommends higher-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events, but its guidance does not make one necessary for a basic still-image-and-audio stream.
  6. Go live and monitor. Start sending the scene from the encoder, then monitor the live preview and audio while the broadcast runs. Keep a local recording if you need a dependable copy of the full program.
  7. End the broadcast deliberately. When you want to stop, stop sending content from the encoder and end the stream in Live Control Room as appropriate. YouTube’s instruction is: “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.”

Choose the music carefully

You are responsible for having the necessary rights to transmit the music. A track being free to download, purchased, or described as royalty-free does not by itself establish permission for your specific livestream. Check the license for live streaming, intended territories, any archive, and monetization if relevant. Use public-domain music or music for which you have explicit permission covering the actual livestream use.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies material, it can replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you; if the material remains, the broadcast may be interrupted or terminated. YouTube also cautions that even licensed music can trigger an interruption if the rightsholder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Resolve allowlisting with the rightsholder or licensing provider before the broadcast rather than assuming a license prevents automated detection. YouTube’s guidance says: “If the third-party content remains in your stream, your live stream will be temporarily interrupted or terminated.”

YouTube points creators to its Audio Library, original music, Creator Music in certain regions, or third-party sources whose terms must be checked. Availability and license terms can vary; review the current terms for the specific track and use.

Plan for the archive and long broadcasts

YouTube says automatic archiving is available for streams under 12 hours. For streams exceeding 12 hours, an archive is not assured: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” If the recording matters, make a local recording as well and confirm that your setup has enough storage for the intended duration.

Troubleshoot common interruptions

What you see Likely cause What to check
The live stream ends when a song finishes The encoder stopped sending content, or the playback source did not repeat. Enable looping or playlist continuation in the encoder/player and test a track ending in preview. YouTube ends the stream when the encoder stops sending content.
The broadcast is live but there is no sound The wrong playback source or audio input is selected, muted, or routed outside the live scene. Check the source’s playback, mute and routing controls, then listen to the encoder preview before going public.
The image is blank or not the intended still The image source is missing, hidden, or covered by another scene element. Check the active scene and source visibility, then confirm the image in the preview.
YouTube warns, replaces, or interrupts the stream Third-party content was identified, or the rightsholder has not allowlisted your channel. Use music cleared for this livestream and contact the rightsholder or provider about Content ID allowlisting. Do not rely on a “free” label alone.
The stream will not connect The server URL or stream key may be wrong, or the key may have been reset. Compare the encoder fields with the current values in Live Control Room. If the key may be compromised, reset it and update the encoder.
No archive appears after a very long broadcast The stream exceeded YouTube’s stated under-12-hour automatic archive guidance. Use a local recording when retaining the full broadcast is important.
