To send a 24/7 YouTube stream from a Windows cloud PC, run a streaming encoder on that PC, connect it to a YouTube Live stream with the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio, and monitor the result in Live Control Room. Use RTMPS where supported and choose settings the cloud PC’s actual upload connection can sustain. That configures the stream; continuous operation also depends on the cloud provider’s runtime, disconnect, reboot and network policies.
Before you set up the encoder
- Your YouTube channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and the person streaming must be at least 16. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Check eligibility and current limits in YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Confirm that the Windows cloud PC can run your chosen encoder and remain active unattended. Check the provider’s terms and settings for session persistence, disconnect behavior, restarts, outbound connections and any GPU requirements. These details vary by provider.
- Plan how you will manage an extended broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not rely on one 24-hour stream for a complete archive. Decide whether to restart or segment the broadcast and whether you need a separate recording.
Connect a Windows encoder to YouTube Live
- Enable live streaming. Complete YouTube’s channel verification and activation process. If live streaming is not yet enabled, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Create or select a stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or select one you have already set up. Copy its server URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or expose it in a recording or screenshot. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe this connection process.
- Choose RTMPS and configure output. Use RTMPS if the encoder supports it. YouTube recommends this secure extension of RTMP; its developer documentation describes a valid RTMPS endpoint using port 443. Set the resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, audio and keyframe interval in the encoder before connecting.
- Test with representative content. Test upload capacity and run a preview with the actual sort of audio and motion you intend to stream. YouTube advises testing before going live; a quiet still image may not reveal problems that appear with fast movement or complex audio.
- Start the encoder and check Live Control Room. Verify that the preview appears and review stream health and any warnings before leaving the session unattended. Fix configuration errors rather than assuming the stream is healthy because the encoder says it is connected.
Recommended YouTube encoder settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance accepts RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate encoding and frame rates up to 60 fps. The figures below are YouTube’s published ingestion recommendations, accessed October 3, 2026—not a guarantee that a particular cloud PC or provider can deliver them reliably. Bitrate is a continuous upload demand, not just a one-time setting. Test the cloud PC’s connection and leave margin rather than selecting an encoder rate at the absolute limit of available upload capacity. These recommendations are YouTube’s, not cloud-provider guarantees.
Keeping the stream running unattended
A cloud desktop is still a Windows session running an encoder. Confirm that closing your own remote-desktop client does not end the session, that the PC will not sleep or shut down unexpectedly, and what happens after a provider maintenance event or reboot. Check how the encoder is relaunched and how it reconnects to YouTube after a network interruption. The exact controls and guarantees depend on the cloud PC provider; YouTube’s ingest documentation cannot establish them.

On YouTube, live content must follow the encoder guidance and the platform’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. If you are streaming pre-recorded gameplay or other video, make sure you have the rights to every video and audio element and that the content complies with YouTube policies. For monetization, eligibility is not guaranteed merely because a stream is continuous; review YouTube’s current channel policies and consider whether the broadcast adds original value rather than repetitively replaying material.
Troubleshoot common stream-health problems
Use the warning shown in Live Control Room to narrow the cause. Google’s LiveStreams API health documentation describes configuration issues such as unsupported codecs, missing audio or video, bitrate warnings, keyframe intervals over four seconds and ingestion starvation.

For a 24/7 schedule, YouTube currently lists a limit of 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key. If you run multiple broadcasts, check that you have not exceeded those limits.
When a managed service may fit better
If you need a Windows desktop and custom encoder control, a cloud PC lets you manage the encoder yourself, but also leaves runtime and recovery behavior to you and your provider. YouTube’s verified encoder directory also lists managed options including Gyre for prerecorded 24/7 streams and Upstream.so for 24/7 live video; the listings establish that these services are relevant options, not their current prices, guarantees or detailed capabilities.
