Then check the Dacast encoder settings—adding a destination can change the Dacast ingest URL—and test that the feed appears in both places before relying on it for a continuous broadcast.
What this connection does—and what it does not
Dacast Simulcast forwards an existing encoder live channel to YouTube; it does not create the Dacast channel, create the YouTube event, or generate the video feed. You supply the feed through your encoder, while YouTube Studio provides the event and its stream information. Dacast’s current Simulcast documentation describes the destination setup and account requirements.
YouTube distinguishes the broadcast viewers watch from the stream carrying audio and video. In its API terminology, these are a liveBroadcast and a liveStream; a broadcast is bound to one stream. Use the current stream information associated with the event you intend to show, rather than credentials copied from an example or another event. See YouTube’s explanation of broadcasts and streams.
Check eligibility before configuring the event
Confirm that the Dacast channel is an eligible encoder live channel and that the account has simulcast credits available. Dacast’s current API documentation excludes HLS ingest channels and VOD Rebroadcast channels from this destination workflow. It also says credits are required; trying to add a destination after credits are exhausted can return a 403 error. Check eligibility and credits in the account before the event, rather than discovering a restriction during setup.

Connect Dacast to the YouTube Live event
- Create or schedule the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, set up the live event and open its stream settings. Copy the stream key provided for that event. Keep it private: anyone with access to a stream key may be able to send video to the associated feed.
- Open the Dacast live channel. In the Dacast dashboard, select the eligible encoder live channel you want to forward.
- Open Simulcast. Select the channel’s Engagement tab, find Simulcast, and choose Connect. These are the dashboard steps in Dacast’s multi-destination setup guide.
- Add YouTube and its event key. Choose YouTube as the destination, enter the stream key from the event’s YouTube Studio settings, and save the destination.
- Recheck the encoder’s Dacast ingest settings. Dacast warns that adding a simulcast destination may change the encoder’s Dacast ingest URL. Compare the encoder configuration with the current Dacast channel settings and update the URL if needed before starting. Dacast’s new channel guide explains this change and recommends testing the setup.
- Start the encoder and verify both destinations. Start the feed using the normal encoder workflow. Open the Dacast preview or shared stream page and the YouTube event, then confirm the video appears at both. Check that the correct event is receiving the feed before treating the connection as ready.
Choose the ingestion protocol from the actual stream settings
YouTube documents RTMPS as RTMP sent over an SSL connection. Its RTMPS guide requires the correct rtmps protocol URL and valid ingestion endpoint; RTMPS connections use port 443. Use the endpoint and stream information supplied for the actual YouTube stream rather than substituting sample values. See YouTube’s RTMPS ingestion requirements.

Dacast Simulcast is documented as forwarding a channel to an RTMP destination, and its API example uses a YouTube RTMPS destination URL. Do not assume RTMP, RTMPS, HLS, and DASH endpoints can be swapped in a particular configuration. YouTube’s protocol comparison describes RTMP and RTMPS as supporting normal, low, or ultra-low latency, with encryption provided by RTMPS. HLS and DASH have different codec and latency characteristics. Match the protocol and endpoint to the values and requirements shown for your stream.
Why the YouTube event may not show the Dacast feed
- The destination cannot be added: confirm the channel is an eligible encoder live channel, not an HLS ingest or VOD Rebroadcast channel, and check that simulcast credits remain. An exhausted-credit attempt can return a 403 response.
- YouTube receives no video: verify that the saved destination contains the key for the intended YouTube event, that the event is ready to receive the stream, and that the encoder is actively sending its feed.
- Dacast stopped receiving after setup changes: recheck the encoder’s Dacast ingest URL. Adding a Simulcast destination may change it, so update the encoder if its configured URL no longer matches the channel settings.
- The feed appears in Dacast but not YouTube: inspect the saved destination and current YouTube stream information, then test again while the encoder is sending. Confirm the destination is attached to the intended broadcast/feed pairing.
- The stream still fails: these checks cover documented setup requirements, not every account, network, encoder, or YouTube-side error. Check the relevant dashboard status and current platform guidance before the event.
What “continuous” means for this setup
The documented workflow explains how to configure and test forwarding; it does not establish a maximum runtime or guarantee uninterrupted availability. Simulcast is a route from an existing encoder channel to YouTube, so test the full path under the conditions you expect to use and monitor both destinations during a long broadcast. Do not treat a successful preview test as an uptime guarantee.
