What’s actually slowing this PC down?

You can run a continuous YouTube music stream from OBS in India if your computer, power and internet connection can sustain the encoder settings you choose—and you have rights to stream every track. There is no single upload-speed figure that works for every Indian connection: measure sustained upload at the actual streaming location, then set OBS below what that connection can reliably maintain. For a complete 24-hour YouTube archive, plan around the platform’s 12-hour archive warning rather than relying on one uninterrupted broadcast.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming available. Activate it in advance and follow the current prompts in YouTube Studio; activation and eligibility details can change.
- A computer running OBS, connected to the internet and power for as long as the stream is meant to run.
- A YouTube stream key, which you must keep private. YouTube recommends the encrypted RTMPS connection.
- Audio and visuals you have the right to use in a livestream and, if you plan to keep it, its replay.
- A connection whose upload capacity is stable at the chosen resolution and bitrate—not merely a high result on one speed test.
A 24/7 stream is not just an OBS configuration. The PC, router, internet path and power all need to stay available, and someone or some monitoring process should be able to respond if the encoder stops, the connection fails or YouTube raises a rights warning.
How much upload speed do you need in India?
Start with the bitrate you intend to send, then measure your connection at the computer and location that will run the stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends choosing a quality that is reliable for your internet connection. It does not establish a universal upload-speed requirement for India, and a broadband plan’s advertised speed does not prove that your particular connection will sustain that rate to YouTube’s ingest service.
Measure the connection you will actually use
- Connect the streaming computer to the router. Wired Ethernet is preferable where practical because it removes the Wi-Fi link as one possible source of variation.
- Run upload tests at the intended location at several times, including the time of day the stream will normally run. Look for consistent results, not just the highest result.
- Check your ISP plan’s terms for sustained uploads, data limits or fair-use conditions. If anything is unclear, ask the provider about service at your address.
- Choose an encoder bitrate comfortably below the upload capacity you observed. Leave room for normal variation and other household traffic; do not set OBS at the full result of a speed test.
- Run a test stream with the intended audio and visual activity. If dropped frames or disconnections accumulate, lower the bitrate or resolution and investigate the connection.
As a rough data-use estimate, each 1 Mbps of continuous encoded bitrate represents about 0.45 GB per hour before network overhead. A stream at a 4 Mbps video bitrate plus 128 kbps audio would therefore use roughly 1.86 GB an hour, or about 45 GB in a day, before overhead. This is arithmetic based on the bitrate, not a prediction of an ISP’s billing or data accounting; check your plan’s terms.

Recommended OBS and YouTube encoder settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance, retrieved October 3, 2026, lists RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. The H.264 video bitrate recommendations below are platform guidance, not a guarantee that a connection will remain stable.
| Video target | YouTube recommended H.264 video bitrate | Practical note |
|---|---|---|
| 240p–720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | Use a resolution within this range that your connection can sustain. |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | Higher frame rate needs more bitrate than 30 fps at the same resolution. |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | Choose only if repeated testing shows enough stable upload capacity. |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps | Usually unnecessary for a static music visual unless the visuals benefit from 60 fps. |
For H.265/HEVC and AV1, YouTube’s tables provide minimum and maximum ranges rather than the same H.264 recommendation column. Do not transfer an H.264 number to a different codec or resolution as if it were the matching recommendation. Check YouTube’s live encoder guidance before launch in case its table has changed.
A sensible starting point for a music stream
For a mostly static album cover, waveform or other simple visual, 30 fps is a reasonable starting point. Pick the resolution your connection can sustain and use the matching bitrate guidance. You do not need 1080p60 just because it is available: the visual content and stable upload capacity should determine the setting.

Set up YouTube and OBS
- Prepare the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room, create or schedule the broadcast, and select the encoder workflow. Follow the current Studio prompts to obtain the stream key.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not publish it, show it on screen or send it to anyone who does not need it. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before continuing.
- Connect OBS. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service and enter the stream key. Choose the RTMPS option if the current OBS service selection offers it.
- Set the encoder. In OBS, open Settings > Output and configure the streaming encoder for CBR and the bitrate that matches your selected resolution and frame rate. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. Encoder labels can vary by OBS version and selected hardware encoder, so verify the resulting values rather than assuming a preset is correct.
- Set video and audio. In Settings > Video, select the canvas/output resolution and frame rate you intend to send. Configure audio to match your chosen format and YouTube’s stereo guidance. Check that the OBS audio meter moves without clipping.
- Build the scene. Add the visual source and the audio playback source, then confirm that the correct audio is reaching the stream and that no desktop sounds or private notifications will be broadcast.
- Test before going public. Start with a private or unlisted test using the same audio processing, motion, scene transitions, bitrate and network path planned for the real stream. Check audio level and sync, OBS connection status, dropped frames and YouTube’s stream health.
- Start and monitor. Once the test is clean, start streaming in OBS and confirm the incoming signal and stream health in Live Control Room before making the broadcast public. Keep both dashboards accessible during operation.
Keep the stream running through failures
OBS identifies dropped frames and intermittent disconnections as a network problem between the computer and the ingest server. The configured bitrate must fit the stable upload capacity available to the PC. Security software or a firewall can also interfere with the connection.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Use wired Ethernet where practical, and avoid running other heavy uploads on the same connection.
- Keep the computer and router powered for the full broadcast. A UPS sized for the actual PC/router load and a backup internet path are optional resilience measures, not guarantees of uninterrupted service.
- Watch OBS’s connection and dropped-frame indicators as well as YouTube stream health. Arrange a person or monitoring process to respond to a stopped encoder, power loss, internet drop or rights alert.
- If the stream becomes unstable, reduce bitrate first, then resolution if needed. Retest before returning to the intended settings.
Plan the archive separately from the live stream
YouTube may automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours. Its archive guidance warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” That makes a single 24-hour broadcast a poor choice if you need a dependable complete YouTube replay.
If preserving the program matters, keep a local recording and plan shorter scheduled broadcasts with transitions that fit your channel’s workflow. YouTube does not specify a restart cadence in the cited archive guidance, so do not assume a particular schedule is an official requirement. Test the transition process and verify the resulting replays in Studio.

Clear music rights for both live playback and replay
Having an audio file does not automatically give you permission to broadcast it. YouTube’s live terms require the provider to have the necessary rights, including music rights. Live streams are scanned for third-party content and may be replaced, interrupted or terminated.
Check the license before adding a track
Use original music, public-domain music, or music with a license that explicitly covers the uses you intend. Check the written terms for:
The Tool Desk

- The archived video or replay, if you plan to retain it.
- Monetization, if relevant, and the territories in which the stream can be viewed.
- The specific YouTube channel and any limits on duration, audience or number of uses.
- Whether the rights owner needs to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist.
YouTube says a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted by the rights owner. Resolve allowlisting with the licensor before going live where it applies. “Royalty-free,” a free download, a purchase, or a license for ordinary uploaded videos does not by itself establish permission for a continuous livestream and its replay. A disclaimer in the description does not prevent Content ID detection.

Do not treat Creator Music as livestream clearance
YouTube Creator Music licensing and revenue-sharing tracks are not available for use in live streams. YouTube’s guidance says expansion beyond US creators in the YouTube Partner Program is pending; regardless of location, Creator Music is not a solution for licensing this livestream use. YouTube identifies its Audio Library as a source of copyright-safe music in general guidance, but check the terms for each track and the intended use rather than assuming every track covers every livestream scenario.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Copyright permission does not guarantee monetization
YouTube applies channel monetization policies to livestreams. Its policy notice says the July 15, 2025 change clarified “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and describes repetitive or mass-produced output as ineligible. Reused-content review is a separate question from copyright enforcement. YouTube’s examples include collections of songs from different artists that may violate reused-content policy even when the creator has permission.
Owning or licensing tracks can address rights, but does not establish that a 24/7 playlist meets YouTube Partner Program requirements. Original composition, meaningful curation, distinctive visuals or context, and the channel’s overall original value may matter in review; none guarantees approval.

Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| OBS shows increasing dropped frames | Upload instability, bitrate too high for the sustained connection, or a problem between the computer and ingest server. | Lower bitrate, test again, check the local network and ISP path, and try wired Ethernet where practical. |
| OBS disconnects intermittently | Network interruption or security software/firewall interference. | Check the connection and firewall/security settings. Run a controlled test and monitor both OBS and YouTube stream health. |
| YouTube reports poor stream health | Encoder output or connection is not reliably meeting the selected settings. | Confirm the codec, CBR, bitrate, resolution and keyframe interval; reduce quality if the connection cannot sustain the target. |
| Live stream is interrupted after music starts | Third-party content was detected, or the licensed channel is not on the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist. | Stop using the track until its live and archive permissions are confirmed and any required allowlisting is in place. |
| No complete 24-hour replay appears | A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. | Keep a local recording and use a tested shorter-session workflow when a replay is important. |
| The stream stops while nobody is at the computer | PC, OBS, network or power interruption that no one has responded to. | Arrange monitoring and a response plan; consider appropriately sized backup power or connectivity if the consequences justify their cost. |
Cost and workload: OBS at home or cloud playback?
Running OBS yourself avoids a cloud-streaming service charge, but you provide the computer, electricity, internet plan, maintenance and monitoring. Estimate data use from the combined continuous audio and video bitrate, then verify how your ISP counts sustained traffic. Do not treat a short speed test or a PC that is usually online as proof that unattended streaming will be reliable.
If you prefer a cloud service for uploaded-video playback, StreamNeo is one option for keeping a YouTube channel live without leaving OBS or a home computer running. The workflow is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not broadcast a live camera. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists and looping, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and team support. Every plan is the same product; only billing length changes. UPI and cards are supported in India, with card checkout worldwide. Copyright permission is still your responsibility.
Or let it run in the cloud
Upload your video or playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay powered on at home; uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot with no re-encode or quality tiers. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
