First identify where the failure happens: OneStream may not be connected to the right YouTube channel, the scheduled stream may not be ready, YouTube may not be receiving an encoder feed, or the feed may arrive but play incorrectly. Check the account, workflow and event before changing network or encoding settings.
Pinpoint what “not streaming” means
OneStream supports different ways to go live, including pre-recorded video, OneStream Studio, encoder streaming and Custom RTMP. The right fix depends on which workflow you use and what you see at the failure point.
- Destination connection: OneStream cannot connect to, or no longer shows, the intended YouTube account.
- Event start: A scheduled stream does not start at the expected time.
- Feed receipt: OneStream appears to send, but YouTube Live Control Room shows no incoming feed.
- Playback: YouTube receives the stream, but viewers see a blank picture, missing audio or an early stop.
Note the exact status or warning in OneStream and YouTube Live Control Room. A “not streaming” report alone does not identify the cause.
1. Confirm the connected YouTube account
- In OneStream, open Social Platforms.
- Check that the intended YouTube account appears in the platform list and is connected.
- Confirm that it is the account and channel you mean to use before editing the stream or schedule.
- If the wrong account is connected or the destination is disconnected, reconnect or select the intended account, then verify the channel.

2. Check the workflow, event and schedule
Scheduled pre-recorded video
- Verify that the intended YouTube destination and event are selected.
- Check the scheduled date and time, including the time zone used by the schedule.
- Confirm that the video upload completed and processing finished before the scheduled start.
- Check that the destination is still valid and connected.
OneStream lists incomplete upload or processing, incorrect scheduling and an invalid or disconnected destination among possible causes of a pre-recorded stream failing to start or play properly. Its troubleshooting guide covers these symptoms.
OneStream Studio, encoder or Custom RTMP
Identify which path you are using before changing settings: OneStream Studio, an external encoder, and Custom RTMP do not have identical controls. Custom RTMP requires a destination server URL and stream key; an encoder workflow also depends on the encoder sending to the right endpoint. Check the source file if playback is wrong
If the recording itself does not play correctly on your device, inspect it locally before changing YouTube settings. For OneStream’s pre-recorded workflow, its troubleshooting material recommends MP4 with H.264 (AVC) video and AAC audio, a constant 30 or 60 FPS, and 720p or 1080p. These are OneStream recommendations, not a guarantee that every file or destination will accept every combination.
3. Verify the YouTube server URL and stream key
This check applies to an external encoder or Custom RTMP setup. In YouTube Live Control Room, compare the current server URL and stream key with the values configured in the encoder or OneStream. OneStream’s Custom RTMP instructions explain where a URL and key are used.

- Make sure the key belongs to the intended YouTube event and has not been replaced since it was copied.
- Use the matching server URL. YouTube Live Control Room shows an ordinary RTMP URL by default; if you select RTMPS, obtain and use the RTMPS URL specifically.
- Do not include a stream key in screenshots or public support posts. Treat it like a password and replace it if it has been exposed.
YouTube Help explains that “You can stream to YouTube Live with RTMPS, a secure extension to the popular RTMP streaming video protocol.” Follow YouTube’s RTMPS setup guidance for the endpoint and configuration.
If you are streaming a YouTube Short through OneStream
For the documented OneStream Custom RTMP workflow for YouTube Shorts, OneStream says to generate a new stream key for each new Short and update the key in OneStream before going live. 4. Investigate network and protocol after account and event checks
If the destination and event are correct but the encoder cannot connect or the feed is unstable, compare your available upload capacity with the chosen bitrate. OneStream’s troubleshooting material gives its own recommendations of a minimum 1.5 Mbps video bitrate for 720p HD and 3 Mbps for 1080p Full HD, plus at least 10 Mbps upload speed and 25 Mbps or higher as ideal. These are OneStream Help Center recommendations, not independent measurements or guarantees that a stream will work.
Use Ethernet if possible when you suspect an unstable Wi-Fi connection. A wired connection can help with network stability; it will not fix a wrong account, stale key, incorrect event or unfinished media processing.

OneStream documents RTMP, RTMPS, WHIP and SRT among its encoder streaming protocols. Switching protocols is not a universal YouTube fix: use the endpoint required by the destination and a protocol your encoder supports. For a “failed to connect to server — connection timed out” error, use YouTube’s endpoint and connectivity checks rather than changing settings at random.
5. Separate feed delivery from YouTube playback
OneStream says it is sending, but YouTube shows no incoming feed
Recheck the selected YouTube event, server URL and key first. Then record the exact connection status or warning shown in Live Control Room. This points the next investigation toward destination selection or ingest configuration rather than the video’s playback quality.
YouTube receives a feed, but viewers see a problem
If YouTube indicates that it is receiving the stream, inspect the source file and encoding, confirm the upload and processing completed, and check the destination event’s playback. A blank picture, missing audio or early stop is a different symptom from a feed that never reaches YouTube.

If the checks do not resolve it
When contacting support, provide the exact OneStream status, the precise YouTube Live Control Room message, the workflow type, and whether YouTube shows an incoming feed. Include relevant encoder settings if you use an encoder, but redact the stream key. These details distinguish authorization, scheduling, transport and playback faults without guessing at a single root cause.
