You can run a 24/7 synthwave radio stream on YouTube with an encoder, a looping audio-and-visual program, and—first of all—the rights to broadcast every track and image continuously. Verify your channel, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, rehearse it, then monitor the broadcast and have a plan for rights warnings or technical interruptions. Dedicated hardware is optional; YouTube does not prescribe one encoder for every creator.
1. Clear the music and visuals before you build the stream
Music rights are the gating issue. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the person providing the live content to have all rights needed for worldwide exploitation, including music rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. See YouTube’s Livestream Terms and Conditions.
Use music you own or have permission to use for this exact format. Ask the rights holder for written terms that cover continuous, repeated YouTube live broadcast; the territories where the stream will be available; monetization, if you plan to monetize; attribution; how long the permission lasts; and whether the completed broadcast may remain available as an archive or VOD. Archive rights are separate: do not assume permission for live use also covers the replay. Keep the agreement and track metadata together.
Apply the same rights-first approach to artwork, animation, and other visuals in the loop. A label such as “royalty-free” does not by itself establish that an asset is cleared for an always-on YouTube livestream, worldwide use, monetization, or archiving. Confirm the actual grant with the rights holder.

Ask about Content ID before launch
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it identifies material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn you; unresolved content can lead to a temporary interruption or termination. Even licensed material can trigger a disruption if the owner has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID. Ask the rights holder whether your channel can be allowlisted and how claims on archived streams will be handled. A written license does not guarantee that YouTube’s automated systems will let the stream run uninterrupted.
After a completed broadcast, the archive may receive a Content ID claim. Check the archive terms with the rights holder before enabling or retaining replays. If YouTube flags a track, stop or replace the disputed material and review Studio for restrictions or strikes. If you believe the use is licensed, contact the rights holder about allowlisting; do not repeatedly restart the same unchanged material.

Do not treat Creator Music as live-stream clearance
YouTube’s Creator Music usage details describe revenue-sharing requirements that exclude live streams. A Creator Music license should not be assumed to authorize a continuous live radio format. Get permission specifically for live use, and separately confirm archive rights.
2. Check channel eligibility and choose the encoder method
YouTube’s encoder guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. The period is an eligibility rule, not a guarantee that a particular channel is currently eligible. Check your account in YouTube Studio and review the current YouTube live-streaming eligibility guidance.

An encoder is the relevant route for a designed audiovisual feed with a persistent visual loop and prepared playlist. YouTube supports encoder streaming, including software and hardware workflows, and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events; it does not say every creator needs dedicated hardware. Choose a setup that can reliably play your cleared program, meet your desired resolution and bitrate, and recover from a failure. Consider power, heat, noise, device reliability, and whether you can configure a backup path. These are practical selection criteria, not a YouTube-mandated equipment list.
There is no single YouTube-prescribed architecture or published guarantee that a continuous 24/7 stream will remain uninterrupted. Your equipment, network, monitoring, and recovery arrangements determine how you handle failures.

3. Plan the radio format and prepare the stream
Decide what viewers will see and hear
- Choose whether the broadcast is one continuous program or a sequence of scheduled blocks.
- Build the audio playlist from cleared tracks and make the visual loop from cleared artwork or animation.
- Decide whether viewers can rewind and whether the completed broadcast will remain available. Confirm the corresponding rights before enabling either feature.
- Keep a track list and rights records accessible so you can identify material quickly if a claim or warning appears.
Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go live.
- Choose the encoder streaming option and create or select the stream in the Live Control Room. Follow the current prompts to enter the stream details.
- Copy the stream key shown by YouTube into your encoder’s stream configuration. Treat the key as a connection credential: do not publish it or include it in public screenshots. YouTube uses it to let the encoder send the feed to the correct stream.
- Configure the encoder to play the cleared audio playlist and visual loop. Set output quality to suit your source, encoder, and available upload connection; avoid choosing settings the system cannot sustain reliably.
- Use YouTube’s preview before starting the public broadcast. Confirm the picture, audio, and stream status in the Live Control Room.
The precise encoder controls differ by software and hardware, so use the instructions for the encoder you chose alongside YouTube’s encoder setup and live-stream checklist. YouTube’s published guidance does not establish one bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval that fits every 24/7 synthwave stream.

Before going public, run an unlisted or private rehearsal if that suits your channel and workflow. Check that the playlist advances or loops as intended, the visual loop behaves correctly, and audio levels remain suitable through transitions. Verify the watch page and mobile access, and make a local recording to check that the output is intact. If your setup has a backup or failover path, test it rather than assuming it will work.

At launch, check the stream status and watch the feed as a viewer. YouTube’s encoder checklist calls for continuous monitoring of audio and video quality. Arrange a way to notice a stopped encoder, lost connection, audio failure, or rights warning; who monitors and how alerts are handled depend on your setup. Write down how to restart the encoder, replace a disputed track, and escalate a rights issue so that the response does not depend on improvisation.
5. Troubleshoot interruptions and recurring failures
- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification and whether the channel has a live restriction. YouTube’s cited eligibility guidance includes a restriction-free period of 90 days.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Confirm the encoder is using the stream key for the intended stream and that it is actively sending. If needed, retrieve the key from the Live Control Room and update the encoder configuration securely.
- The feed appears but audio or video is wrong: Check the encoder preview and the actual watch page. Inspect the playlist, transitions, output configuration, and local recording to isolate whether the issue is in the source program or outgoing feed.
- A placeholder replaces the broadcast or YouTube warns about third-party content: Stop or replace the flagged material and check Studio for restrictions. If you have a license, contact the owner about Content ID allowlisting and archive treatment; do not keep restarting the unchanged material.
- The stream drops or quality degrades: Check encoder status and connection stability, then follow your documented restart or backup procedure. YouTube recommends monitoring and testing failover, but does not prescribe a particular 24/7 recovery architecture.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the YouTube broadcast to continue without leaving an encoder computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos on a YouTube channel. The steps are: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. The computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams the uploaded quality as-is up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera. You still need rights for the music and visuals, and StreamNeo is for YouTube streaming only. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
