To stream podcast episodes continuously on YouTube from India, connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream and play local episode files through an OBS Media Source or VLC playlist. This can keep prerecorded audio and video going while OBS and the computer stay running, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted service: power, internet, OBS, and the playlist all need attention. Plan the replay separately, too—YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, so do not count on one continuous 24-hour broadcast producing a complete replay.
Before you start: check YouTube eligibility and prepare the episodes
Enable live streaming on the channel
YouTube requires a verified channel that has not had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Its current guidance also sets a minimum age of 16 for live streaming. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do this before your planned broadcast rather than on the day it is due to start. See YouTube’s encoder streaming guide.
Prepare files and confirm your rights
Keep the podcast episode files on the computer that will run OBS. Check that you have rights for every included recording, music track, clip, video, and image—not just permission to publish the original podcast. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder, and continued use can interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Archived live streams may also receive Content ID claims after the stream ends. If you have licensed material, the rights holder may still need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for the live content, including music licensing rights, and to satisfy applicable requirements in the stream’s territory. The Government of India’s Copyright Act text includes provisions concerning broadcasting-organisation rights, but that text alone does not determine which permissions a particular YouTube podcast stream needs. Check the rights attached to each item and seek qualified Indian legal advice for a fact-specific question; do not assume a statutory broadcasting route automatically covers YouTube streaming.

How to set up a 24/7 YouTube podcast stream in OBS
1. Add an episode or playlist as a source
- Open OBS and select the scene that will carry the podcast.
- For one episode, add a Media Source, select the local file, and enable Loop if you want that episode to repeat when playback ends.
- For multiple episodes, add a VLC Video source, add the episode files to its playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed; OBS documents that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Play the scene and check that video, if present, and audio work as intended. Keep the source active in the scene during the broadcast.
OBS’s Media Sources documentation describes the Media Source loop setting and VLC playlist source. A single looping file is simpler; a playlist lets you sequence several episodes before the queue repeats.
2. Create the YouTube encoder stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using the encoder workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream URL and key if OBS requests them. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Start streaming from OBS. Check the Live Control Room preview and use its Go live control if the stream configuration requires it.
- Before leaving the setup unattended, confirm that the correct scene and playlist are running and that YouTube is receiving the expected picture and sound.
Follow the current controls in YouTube’s encoder setup instructions, since labels and stream workflows may change.

3. Give the connection upload headroom
Use measured upload capacity, not download speed, when deciding whether the connection can support the outgoing stream. YouTube says the stream’s total bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Allow for other people and devices using the same connection, and test the setup before going live. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend setting up an encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event.
A wired Ethernet connection can be a practical option for a fixed streaming computer if the computer and router have compatible ports and the cable reaches; it is not a guarantee against outages. A Cat6 cable is optional, not a YouTube requirement.

Operate the broadcast and plan for interruptions
A 24/7 setup needs active checks. OBS does not guarantee that a local broadcast will recover from a power cut, lost internet, stopped encoder, or playback source that reaches the end unexpectedly. YouTube recommends checking the preview and monitoring audio and video during a stream. For a continuous podcast channel, also check:
- OBS is still outputting and YouTube’s Live Control Room is receiving the stream.
- Episode audio is audible and the intended scene remains active.
- The playlist is looping as expected, or the single file has Loop enabled.
- The computer has power and the internet connection has not dropped.
- Local recordings or archives are not filling the available disk space.
Decide how viewers will get a replay
YouTube’s current encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not promise a complete replay from a single 24-hour stream on that basis. If complete replays matter, divide the programming into shorter broadcasts and verify the channel’s current archive controls before publishing. A shorter broadcast schedule can make individual sessions easier to replay, but it is a different operating plan from one unbroken live stream.

Common problems and what to check
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not show a preview | OBS is not sending output, or the stream URL or key is wrong. | Check OBS’s stream settings, confirm the correct stream is open in Live Control Room, and start OBS output again. Keep the stream key private. |
| Video works but the podcast is silent | The source’s audio is not reaching the active scene or output. | Check the source and OBS audio meters, verify the intended scene is active, and listen to the YouTube preview before relying on the stream. |
| The stream buffers or drops | Upload capacity may be insufficient or shared, or the internet connection may be unstable. | Measure upload capacity, reduce competing network use, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and test again. A wired connection may help with the local network path but cannot prevent an ISP or power outage. |
| The playlist stops after an episode | Loop Playlist is off, the playlist is empty or invalid, or the VLC source is unavailable. | Verify the playlist entries and Loop Playlist setting. Confirm VLC is installed with the same architecture as OBS; 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC. |
| A stream is interrupted after a copyright match | YouTube detected third-party material, or a licensed channel is not allowlisted by the rights holder. | Review the material and permissions, contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting where appropriate, and do not restart with disputed material unless you have the necessary rights. |
