Spotify describes its service as personal and non-commercial, and YouTube requires you to have the rights needed for live content. If you do not have those rights, do not send Spotify audio to your stream; use rights-cleared material or host a YouTube live show that directs viewers to the playlist instead.
Can you stream a Spotify podcast playlist on YouTube Live?
Technically, streaming software can transmit audio to YouTube. Permission is a separate question: listening access to a Spotify episode does not itself grant the right to transmit it to a public YouTube audience. Spotify says its service is for personal, non-commercial use and its user guidelines prohibit unpermitted broadcasting. Its terms are platform rules, not a ruling on every possible license or jurisdiction. Spotify’s Terms and Conditions of Use and Spotify’s guidance on public or commercial use explain the relevant restrictions.
A Spotify Premium subscription does not change those permissions. The rights question applies to the actual episodes and their underlying material, not just to whether you can play them in your account.
Choose a lawful way to build the live show
Use content cleared for YouTube Live
The simplest route is to use your own original audio or a catalog whose license explicitly covers live transmission on YouTube. Check whether the license also covers any recording or archive of the stream, and whether it is valid for your channel and territory.

Get permission for the specific episodes
If you want to use Spotify podcast episodes, contact the relevant rights holders and obtain permission covering live transmission to YouTube and any archived replay. An episode may include material controlled by more than one party. Confirm the scope, territory, duration and archive rights rather than assuming permission to use an episode covers every element in it.
YouTube’s livestream terms require creators to have the necessary rights for live content on Google services, including relevant music licensing rights. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions. This article cannot establish the rights status of any particular podcast episode.

Make a live show that points to Spotify without retransmitting audio
If you do not control the audio rights, talk about the playlist, share its link in your stream description or direct viewers to listen on Spotify separately. Keep the Spotify audio out of the live feed. Commentary does not automatically make an unauthorized rebroadcast permissible.
What YouTube does when a live stream contains third-party audio
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may show a warning, replace the stream with a placeholder image, interrupt the broadcast or terminate it. A stream archive may also receive a Content ID claim after the live event ends. YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams describes these outcomes.

Even if you have a license, YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Ask the rights holder to confirm this before going live; a license alone may not prevent an automated interruption if the channel is not allowlisted.
Set up the YouTube broadcast and incoming feed
YouTube treats the broadcast event and the incoming audio/video feed as separate resources in its Live Streaming API. The broadcast is the scheduled, viewable event; the stream is the feed sent to YouTube. In the API workflow, create and configure each, then bind the stream to the broadcast. Google’s implementation guide for broadcasts and streams explains the developer workflow. It is not necessary for every creator, and this article does not assume a particular current YouTube Studio interface.
