A YouTube playlist and an OBS loop do different jobs. A playlist lets viewers play a sequence of videos already published on YouTube; it does not create one continuous live event. To stream prerecorded meditation video as a live broadcast, use an encoder such as OBS or a cloud streaming service. OBS gives you local control, but the computer and connection must keep running. A cloud service avoids leaving a dedicated computer on.
Playlist vs. OBS loop: what each one does
| Option | What it does | Best fit | Main tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube playlist | Groups videos already published on YouTube for sequential playback. | Viewers who want to play a selection of meditation videos. | It is not the encoder feed for a live event and does not provide one continuous live watch page or an encoder-monitoring workflow. YouTube’s encoder guide |
| OBS loop | Sends a live feed from local media through streaming software. Use Media Source with Loop for one file, or VLC Video for a playlist of items. | Creators who want local control over scenes, overlays, audio, and files. | The computer, OBS, and internet connection must stay operational; you need to monitor the broadcast and plan for interruptions. OBS Media Sources |
| Cloud 24/7 service | Sends prerecorded video to YouTube from a hosted service. | Creators who do not want to leave a dedicated local machine running. | Check each service’s current pricing, controls, reliability evidence, interruption handling, and rights workflow. YouTube lists services including Gyre and Upstream, but that listing is not a comparative performance assessment. YouTube’s encoder guide |
YouTube lists OBS as open-source streaming software and describes an encoder as converting video into a digital format for streaming. If your goal is a continuous live meditation broadcast, the relevant comparison is therefore OBS versus a cloud encoder—not OBS versus a YouTube playlist.
When to choose a playlist, OBS, or cloud streaming
Choose a YouTube playlist for on-demand viewing
Use a playlist when you want viewers to choose a sequence of published meditation videos. It is the simplest fit when you do not need a single live event and are not trying to present the videos as a continuous broadcast.
Choose OBS when you want local control
OBS suits a creator who wants to manage local media, scenes, overlays, or audio levels and can keep a computer and stable connection running. YouTube lists OBS as an encoder option and describes it as open-source software for recording and live streaming at no charge. YouTube’s encoder guide

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose a cloud service when a local machine should not be required
YouTube’s encoder guide lists cloud services for continuous streaming, including Gyre and Upstream. Treat those as examples to investigate, not endorsements: check their current features, costs, recovery behavior, and terms before choosing. For an alternative, StreamNeo is #1 to try first because it runs the YouTube stream from the cloud, supports uploaded video at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
Compare options by whether they create one live event or separate published videos, whether a local computer must stay on, how loops and transitions work, what monitoring and recovery are available, how interruptions and archives are handled, ongoing cost, and the rights needed for all media.

Set up a prerecorded meditation stream with OBS
- Confirm YouTube live access. Verify your channel and check that it has no active live-streaming restriction. YouTube says first-time live-streaming activation may take up to 24 hours. YouTube’s live-stream setup guide
- Prepare the source. For one repeating video, add it in OBS as a Media Source and turn on Loop. OBS says this replays the file after playback completes. For multiple clips, use VLC Video as the source and set up its playlist. OBS Media Sources
- Check media compatibility and playback. OBS documents common video formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. Confirm your files work in your installed OBS build, then preview the full cycle so you can assess the loop transition and audio. OBS Media Sources
- Create the YouTube event. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream. Copy its stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key as a credential: do not reveal it in a scene, recording, or public post. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup flow for the event. YouTube’s encoder guide
- Preview, then start the encoder. Check picture, sound, scene visibility, and the watch page before publishing. YouTube advises monitoring audio and video quality. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide
- Plan session length and interruptions. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its setup guide does not promise indefinite live sessions or archive behavior beyond that condition. Do not assume one event or archive will run or capture an entire 24-hour day. YouTube’s archive guidance
Rights and YouTube policy for meditation media
YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed for live content, including music licensing rights, and to follow applicable laws and Community Guidelines. A meditation label, attribution, or credit alone does not prove that a recording is licensed for continuous public livestreaming. Check the license for the exact recording, artwork, and visuals, including the territories and uses it permits, before broadcasting. YouTube Livestream Terms and Conditions
Common problems and practical fixes
- The video ends instead of repeating: If you are using one file, confirm that the OBS Media Source’s Loop option is enabled. For a sequence, use a VLC Video source with the intended playlist rather than relying on a YouTube playlist to create a live feed. OBS Media Sources
- The broadcast is live, but viewers do not hear audio: Preview the source and monitor audio before publishing; check the file’s audio track and the OBS audio levels. YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video quality. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide
- The encoder does not connect: Recheck the event’s stream URL and key in OBS, and confirm that live streaming is enabled for the channel. If this is the channel’s first live stream, activation can take up to 24 hours. YouTube’s encoder guide
- The stream stops or the local setup disconnects: OBS depends on the running computer and connection, so check both and monitor the event. If you need to avoid relying on a local machine, consider a cloud service and verify its interruption and recovery behavior before use.
- The archive is shorter or different from what you expected: YouTube’s automatic archive statement covers streams under 12 hours only. Plan the event and any archive use around that limit; do not assume a 24-hour stream will be captured as one archive. YouTube’s archive guidance
- Music or imagery triggers a rights concern: Stop and verify that the license covers the specific material, livestream use, and relevant territory. Attribution does not replace permission where permission is required. YouTube Livestream Terms and Conditions
