To avoid an audible pop when an ASMR recording repeats, repair the join between the end and beginning of the audio in an editor, export and listen to the finished file, then enable Loop on its OBS Media Source. OBS repeats a file; it does not smooth a bad edit.
Why a loop can pop
A click or pop at the repeat point is often associated with a sudden change in the waveform where the file ends and starts. A cut near a low-amplitude point or zero crossing may reduce the risk, but it is not a guarantee: the left and right channels of stereo audio can cross zero at different times. For gentle textures such as rain, brushing, or room tone, also listen for changes in texture or level—the join can sound unnatural even without a sharp click.
Audacity’s manual explains that a crossfade is one section fading out while another fades in. The appropriate edit depends on the recording; judge it by listening rather than relying on how the waveform looks. Audacity: Fade and Crossfade
Repair and test the audio seam
- Open the source recording in an audio editor. Identify its start and end, then listen through the ending into the beginning several times. A single listen from start to finish does not reveal how the repeat boundary feels.
- Try moving the edit points first. If the ending can meet the beginning naturally, move the boundary to compatible, quieter waveform regions. A zero crossing can help reduce a discontinuity, but check both stereo channels by ear; their crossings may not coincide.
- Crossfade if a direct join remains audible. Overlap the ending and beginning, fading the outgoing section down as the incoming section rises. Audacity describes constant-gain fades as avoiding clipping when the source is not clipped, but they can cause a level dip. Constant-power fades are intended to reduce that dip, but may raise the peak. Try the available curves and listen for a natural transition: a fade that removes a click can still create a noticeable swell or blend unrelated sounds awkwardly.
- Audition the boundary repeatedly. Use loop playback or repeat listening to refine the edit. Audacity’s timeline documentation describes loop-region controls for finding a satisfactory loop point. Do not assume a visually tidy cut will sound seamless. Audacity: Timeline
- Export and test the actual file. Listen to the exported version, not only the editor session. Audacity notes that some applications may add a small silence at the beginning of MP3 playback; if that affects your target setup, try WAV, FLAC, or Ogg Vorbis and audition again. Make OBS repeat the prepared recording
- In OBS, add the exported file as a Media Source and select the local audio or video file you prepared.
- Enable the source’s Loop option so playback starts again after it finishes. OBS describes this control as specifying whether the file plays again once playback has completed. OBS Project: Media Sources
- Monitor or record enough playback to hear several repeat boundaries in the intended setup. If a pop or gap appears here, return to the edit or export step; the repeat setting itself does not repair the file.
For a playlist, OBS also offers a VLC Video Source, which requires VLC. OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. This is an alternative for playlist playback, not a way to fix a discontinuity in an individual recording.
