To show gaming footage repeatedly in a YouTube Live broadcast, send a looping feed to YouTube from an encoder or use a supported console workflow. YouTube’s Loop or Repeat controls are for ordinary video and playlist playback; they are not documented as a way to put a video on repeat inside a Live broadcast.
Can I loop a YouTube video during a live stream?
Not with the ordinary YouTube player’s Loop control. That control repeats a video for someone watching it, while a Live broadcast is a feed sent to YouTube by an encoder or supported console. YouTube’s published instructions do not document a Live Control Room switch that loops an uploaded video inside the broadcast.
For a Live event featuring repeated gaming footage, the repeated video must be part of the feed you send to YouTube. You can use an encoder workflow that can play the footage repeatedly, or use a cloud service designed to loop uploaded videos as a YouTube Live stream. YouTube’s help pages describe the encoder connection and gameplay workflows, but do not establish one official, universal setup for looping prerecorded footage 24/7. Check that the tool you choose supports the workflow you need.
Choose the right workflow for your gaming video

If you want live commentary or interaction, use a workflow that captures the gameplay you are playing now. If you only need continuous viewing of recorded footage, use a workflow that can repeat that footage. A microphone, headset, or webcam is optional for commentary or an on-camera presentation, not a requirement for looping. A capture card is only needed for some console-to-computer setups, not for every console stream.

Set up a YouTube Live encoder for gaming footage
- Check channel access in advance. YouTube says a channel must be verified, must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming and confirm access before your planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance and its encoder instructions.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room, create a stream or select the event you intend to use, and retrieve its stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to the stream.
- Connect your gameplay source. In your encoder, choose the gameplay source or file-playback workflow you intend to use, then enter YouTube’s stream URL and stream key. For a console, check whether its supported workflow streams directly to YouTube; a computer encoder and capture card may be needed for other console-to-computer arrangements.
- Set the video and audio in the encoder. Use a quality profile that your connection can reliably upload. YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingestion and publishes encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions; there is no single bitrate suitable for every resolution, frame rate, encoder, and connection. Review YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance rather than guessing a universal value.
- Preview before going live. Send a test feed and check the preview in Live Control Room. Test representative movement and audio, confirm that game sound and commentary are balanced, and check the event through the channel or watch page. Leave upload-bandwidth headroom and follow YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Confirm the feed is reaching YouTube and watch stream health while live. YouTube transcodes incoming live feeds into output formats for viewers on different devices and networks; your source still needs to be stable and correctly configured.
- End the event cleanly. Stop the event on YouTube as appropriate, then stop sending content from the encoder. If you are recording a local archive, verify that the recording is intact.
Repeat a video on YouTube without making it a Live event
If you only want a gaming video or playlist to play repeatedly for a viewer, use YouTube’s playback controls instead. The labels and placement can vary by device, so follow the instructions for the device you are using in YouTube’s Loop videos or playlists help page.
- Computer: Open the video, right-click the player, and choose Loop. For a playlist, open a video in the playlist and use the playlist Loop control.
- Android: Open the video, select Settings > Additional settings > Loop video.
- TV or gaming console: Use the Repeat setting for the current video or playlist, where available.
These controls repeat ordinary playback; they do not turn the video into a Live broadcast.

Settings and checks that matter for a stable stream
Stream key and destination
Use the stream URL and key shown for the intended YouTube event. A mismatched key, stale event, or incorrect destination can prevent the feed from appearing where expected. Do not share the key publicly, and replace it if you believe someone else has obtained it.
Upload capacity and stream health
Your internet connection needs enough upload capacity for the encoder’s output, with headroom for fluctuations. Test at the resolution and frame rate you plan to use; a connection that barely sustains a test can still falter during a longer event. Check Live Control Room’s preview and health indicators rather than relying only on the encoder’s local status.

DVR for viewers
If DVR is enabled for the event, viewers can pause or rewind and then resume, catching up from the point where they paused. This affects how an individual viewer follows the stream; it does not loop the feed itself. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
Troubleshooting a gaming video that will not loop or go live

Copyright and channel-policy checks
Only stream gameplay, music, commentary, and other material you have permission to use. A game’s soundtrack or third-party music can raise rights issues even when the gameplay itself is yours. Repeating a file does not grant additional rights or make material original. YouTube’s account eligibility and streaming documentation do not decide whether a particular game recording or automated prerecorded stream complies with every copyright or monetization policy. Check the rights and current YouTube policies that apply to your content before broadcasting.
