How to Stream a YouTube Live Product Showcase from a Playlist

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To stream a product showcase playlist on YouTube Live, play the clips through an encoder such as OBS Studio, then send that live feed to a scheduled YouTube broadcast. In OBS, the VLC Video source can queue multiple local video files in order and loop them. A YouTube playlist page alone does not create a live event.

What you need before you start

  • A YouTube channel that is verified, has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and an operator who is at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guide.
  • A computer capable of running OBS Studio and a working internet connection.
  • Your product showcase clips saved locally, in the order you want to show them.
  • Permission to stream every video, image, music track, and other asset in the showcase.

You can use another compatible encoder, but OBS documents a specific playlist workflow through its VLC Video source. OBS requires VLC to be installed for that source to appear; for 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. See OBS Media Sources.

Prepare the showcase playlist in OBS

  1. Install OBS and VLC. Match VLC’s architecture to OBS. Reopen OBS after installing VLC if the VLC Video source is not available.
  2. Create a scene. In OBS, a scene is the layout you send to YouTube; sources are the video, audio, and graphic elements in that layout. The OBS Sources Guide explains how scenes and sources work.
  3. Add the clips. In the Sources panel, add a VLC Video source and load the local showcase files. Arrange the list in the intended product-demo order.
  4. Set playback behavior. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed sequence. Enable Loop Playlist if you want the showcase to repeat. OBS documents Loop Playlist as on by default and Shuffle Playlist as off by default; verify the controls in your source settings.
  5. Add optional live elements. Add microphone or camera sources only if someone will narrate or present during the showcase. Check that the live audio does not drown out the clip audio.

OBS’s VLC source is designed for multiple media items; its ordinary Media Source handles an individual file. For the documented source options, see OBS Media Sources.

Schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio

  1. Open YouTube Studio and choose Create → Go Live.
  2. Open Manage, then choose Schedule Stream.
  3. Enter the event title and description, add a thumbnail, and choose the visibility setting: public, private, or unlisted.
  4. Review the stream’s other settings, including latency and DVR. Lower latency can reduce the delay for interaction but may increase buffering; DVR allows viewers to pause and resume.

Scheduling creates a watch page you can share and may let viewers opt into reminders. You can review event settings in YouTube’s live stream settings guide and follow its encoder setup instructions.

  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Connect OBS to the scheduled YouTube event

  1. Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room and copy its stream URL and stream key.
  2. In OBS, open the stream settings and enter the server URL and key for the event. The exact labels can vary by OBS version, but the values come from YouTube’s Live Control Room.
  3. Keep the stream key private: it works like a password that lets an encoder send video to your channel. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS with the replacement.

YouTube’s encoder instructions describe the server URL and key setup; its live settings guide covers managing stream details and credentials.

Test the full sequence, then go live

  1. Set up the encoder at least two hours before the event, as YouTube recommends.
  2. Start sending the OBS feed at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start.
  3. In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming feed and inspect the preview. Confirm that the correct clip starts, the order is right, the picture is visible, and audio is clear.
  4. Check the watch page on the devices your viewers are likely to use. YouTube also recommends monitoring audio and video quality during the stream.
  5. When the scheduled broadcast is ready, choose Go Live in Live Control Room. Starting OBS sends the encoder feed; it is a separate action from starting the scheduled event on YouTube.
  6. To close the event, choose End Stream in YouTube and stop sending from OBS.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its live streaming tips cover its preparation recommendations. Expensive production equipment is not required for this workflow.

Copyright and product-showcase checks

  • Confirm you have the right to stream every clip, soundtrack, image, logo, and other included asset. Owning a product or having permission to demonstrate it does not by itself establish rights to third-party material used in the video.
  • Use the YouTube preview to check that the intended media is playing before the event becomes public.
  • Choose public, private, or unlisted visibility based on who should be able to watch; visibility does not replace the need for rights to the content.

YouTube provides rights-management information in its live stream settings documentation. Whether a particular asset is cleared depends on the rights and permissions for that asset.

Common problems and fixes

Problem Likely cause What to do
VLC Video is missing from OBS sources VLC is not installed or its architecture does not match OBS. Install VLC that matches OBS (64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS), then reopen OBS. See OBS Media Sources.
YouTube does not receive the encoder feed The stream URL or key in OBS may be incorrect or out of date. Check the current URL and key in Live Control Room, then update OBS. If a third-party encoder reports an error, YouTube’s streaming troubleshooting guide advises getting a current key and updating the encoder.
The clips play in the wrong order or stop after one pass Playlist order, shuffle, or loop settings are not configured as intended. Reorder the files in the VLC source, turn shuffle off for a fixed sequence, and enable Loop Playlist if the showcase should repeat.
Clip volume changes sharply between products Recorded audio levels differ between files, or live narration conflicts with playback. Play through the entire sequence before the event, adjust levels, and monitor the YouTube preview for sound quality.
The preview works, but the scheduled event has not started Sending the encoder feed and starting the YouTube broadcast are separate steps. Once the preview is correct, use Go Live in Live Control Room for the scheduled event.
Viewers report buffering A lower-latency setting may increase buffering, or the incoming feed may be unstable. Review the latency choice in YouTube’s live stream settings and test playback on the devices viewers use.
