Short answer: A managed cloud-playout subscription can start at a vendor-listed $19 per month for one 1080p stream, but that is a service price—not the full cost of operating a store promo stream. Your actual budget may also include content production, internet, power, hardware, monitoring and backup arrangements. For a self-hosted stream or usage-billed cloud API, costs depend on your setup and how long the channel runs.
What should you include in the budget?
Think of the budget as streaming service + store-specific operating costs. A subscription or cloud bill is only one part of the total. Production time, the cost of making or licensing promo videos, staffing, internet service, electricity, monitoring and redundancy can all affect the bill. The cited service pages do not quantify those store-specific costs, so there is no reliable all-in monthly total without your local figures.
- Streaming service: a fixed monthly cloud-playout plan or usage-based cloud API.
- Local operation, if applicable: encoder computer or hardware, power, upload connection, monitoring and backup equipment or connectivity.
- Content and labor: video production or licensing, playlist upkeep and whoever checks that the promotion and stream remain appropriate.
YouTube says it automatically transcodes a live stream into multiple formats for viewers. That means a basic operator generally budgets for getting the outgoing stream to YouTube rather than buying separate viewer-side transcoding. See YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance.

These are vendor-listed prices checked on October 3, 2026, for the plans described on each vendor’s site. They are not a like-for-like market comparison, and prices or plan details may change. Confirm current terms before budgeting.

Price alone does not establish which plan is cheapest for your store. Compare resolution and frame rate, storage, scheduling, stream count, recovery, support and billing term. A plan advertised for one stream may not cover multiple locations or simultaneous promotions.

Self-hosting: subscription savings do not remove operating costs
If you run the encoder locally, the service price may not be the main expense—especially if you already own suitable hardware. But the computer or hardware encoder must remain on, and the store needs enough reliable upload capacity for the selected stream settings. Add electricity, internet, monitoring and a recovery plan to the budget. The available sources do not establish prices for local equipment, power, broadband or staffing.

YouTube’s official guidance recommends testing upload bandwidth, gives target bitrate ranges by resolution and frame rate, and recommends RTMPS for secure delivery. Select settings your connection can sustain, with headroom for normal upload fluctuations; do not treat a nominal ISP speed as proof that an always-on stream will remain stable. Google Cloud Live Stream API: usage-based billing
Google Cloud’s Live Stream API is a different cost model from a fixed-price creator playout subscription. Charges depend on active channel time and configured input and output resolutions. Its pricing page also lists a distribution endpoint at $0.75 per hour, checked October 3, 2026. That is a listed component, not a complete estimate for a particular 24/7 stream: calculate the actual configuration and active hours using the Google Cloud pricing page.

For a continuously active channel, estimate from the actual configuration and full operating schedule rather than comparing one hourly line item with a monthly subscription. Resolution, outputs and active time affect the bill.

- Choose the operating model. Decide whether you will use managed cloud playout, your own encoder or a usage-billed API.
- Set the stream scope. Record how many simultaneous streams you need, the target resolution and frame rate, and whether you need scheduling, playlists, storage or automatic recovery.
- Price the service on its actual billing basis. Use the current vendor plan for fixed subscriptions. For an API, calculate the configured inputs, outputs and active hours from its pricing page.
- Add store costs not covered by that price. Include content creation or licensing, labor, internet, electricity, local equipment, monitoring and backup connectivity or hardware where relevant.
- Check the failure plan. Decide who notices a stopped stream and what restores it. The costs and staffing for that plan are store-specific.
This method avoids presenting a vendor’s entry-level subscription as the complete cost of running a promotion around the clock. It also avoids claiming a universal cheapest option: the available plans differ, and local operating costs are not priced in the cited sources.
