What you need for a 24/7 playlist stream
YouTube describes encoder streaming as a way to broadcast gameplay and manage a more advanced production. An encoder may be software on a computer or standalone hardware; it converts video into a digital format that YouTube can stream. You do not need to capture live console gameplay to stream existing playlist files, and YouTube does not prescribe a particular PC, graphics card, capture card, or playlist application for this prerecorded-video workflow. YouTube’s encoder guidance also lists cloud services for continuous streaming of prerecorded video.
For a playlist that should stay live around the clock, the key choice is where playback and encoding happen. With a local encoder, your computer and network connection must remain available. With a cloud service, the service handles the continuous playback and stream from its infrastructure. Compare current provider features, terms, and recovery options before choosing; YouTube’s documentation does not compare providers’ prices or uptime.
Check YouTube eligibility and prepare the stream
- Confirm livestream access. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. Review YouTube’s live-streaming tips before setup.
- Choose an encoder workflow. Use software running on a computer, standalone hardware, or a cloud streaming service. For a playlist of prerecorded game videos, you need a workflow that can play those files continuously and send the resulting stream to YouTube.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Configure the encoder with the stream URL and stream key as its setup requires. Treat the key as sensitive: YouTube says it functions like a password and address. Do not share it publicly; if it is exposed, replace it in the stream settings. - Check your upload capacity. YouTube recommends keeping upload bandwidth 20% above the total bitrate of your stream. The bitrate depends on the output you configure, so calculate headroom from your actual encoder settings rather than assuming one universal rate. Unstable connectivity can interrupt the stream. - Test, preview, and monitor. Prepare the encoder in advance, check the preview in Live Control Room before going live, and monitor audio and video quality while the stream runs. YouTube’s guidance recommends ongoing monitoring, even for a stream intended to be unattended.
- Decide whether to enable auto-start and auto-stop. These are available stream settings. Choose them only if they fit your operating plan; they do not guarantee that a stream will recover from every interruption.
Run the playlist locally
A local workflow is an option if you want to operate the encoder yourself and can keep the machine and internet connection available continuously. The precise controls depend on the encoder you choose; YouTube does not specify a playlist app or universal local configuration for this use case.

- Prepare the prerecorded gaming videos and the ordered playlist in an encoder or playback workflow that can send a continuous output to YouTube.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the stream and copy its stream URL and key into the encoder’s stream settings. Keep the key private.
- Set the encoder’s output to match the video and audio you intend to stream. Check the encoder’s own requirements and YouTube’s current guidance; the cited YouTube material does not prescribe a specific resolution, bitrate, or keyframe interval for this playlist setup.
- Start the encoder, inspect the Live Control Room preview, and verify that both picture and sound are working before treating the stream as live.
- Keep the computer, encoder, and internet connection running. Monitor the stream, and be prepared to restart or troubleshoot if the computer, encoder, or connection fails.

Before streaming a gaming playlist, confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed for every video and its audio, including music and other material included in gameplay recordings. A video being prerecorded or already uploaded does not itself establish that it is suitable to rebroadcast. YouTube’s cited operational guidance explains encoder setup and livestream eligibility, but does not establish that a particular playlist meets copyright or monetization requirements. Review YouTube’s applicable policies for your content and channel before scheduling a continuous stream.

Common problems and what to check
- The stream will not start: Confirm livestream eligibility, that the selected stream is the one configured in the encoder, and that the stream URL and key were entered correctly.
- YouTube receives no video or audio: Check the encoder’s selected playlist, output settings, and audio source, then confirm the Live Control Room preview before going live.
- The stream drops or stutters: Check the network connection and available upload bandwidth against the total stream bitrate, leaving the 20% headroom YouTube recommends. A cloud workflow avoids dependence on a home computer and connection for continuous playback.
- The stream stops when you expected it to continue: Review whether auto-stop or auto-start is enabled and whether those settings match your plan. They are not a substitute for monitoring or a guarantee of recovery.
- The stream key may have been exposed: Treat it like a password. Replace it in YouTube’s live-stream settings and update the encoder with the new key.
