To rebroadcast an event replay continuously on YouTube Live, send the video through a live encoder such as OBS, enable looping on the video source, and connect the encoder to YouTube with the stream URL and stream key. A replay on your channel is different: it is a video viewers can watch after a stream ends, not a live broadcast that loops by itself.
Replay video or continuous YouTube Live stream?
YouTube distinguishes a finished stream’s replay from a live stream. After a stream ends, a channel may post its replay or highlights as a video. To show prerecorded event footage as a continuous live stream, you must send that footage to YouTube through an encoder. YouTube’s explanation is at Learn about live streams.
Check eligibility and rights before setting up
Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also sets 16 as the minimum age for live streaming. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the event. Clear the footage, music, and other content
Use only footage and audio you have permission to stream. YouTube says all live streams are scanned for third-party content, including another live broadcast. If its systems detect a match, YouTube may warn you, replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even licensed content may be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. See Copyright issues with live streams.

YouTube’s live-stream terms also require providers to have necessary rights and comply with applicable laws and territorial regulatory requirements: YouTube Terms of Service. Those sources do not establish which Indian permissions or licenses apply to a specific event. Confirm the rights and permissions for your particular footage, music, and context rather than assuming a blanket India-specific rule.
Loop an event replay with OBS and YouTube Live
- Prepare the video file. Keep a local copy of the replay and check that it plays through from beginning to end. Confirm you have cleared the rights for everything heard or seen in it.
- Add the file in OBS. In your scene, add a Media Source, select the local replay file, and turn on Loop. OBS’s Media Source supports local media files; its Loop control restarts a file when playback reaches the end. This repeats the source in OBS, but does not by itself create a YouTube Live broadcast. - Create or open a YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the live stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your channel. YouTube’s setup guide is Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Choose a sustainable output and transport. Match resolution and quality to a reliable upload connection rather than selecting the maximum available setting by default. YouTube recommends RTMPS, testing before going live, and monitoring stream health. Its current encoder recommendations and available settings are documented at Encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. Check Live Control Room’s current recommendations for the stream you create; the best setting depends on the connection you can sustain.
- Run a preflight test. Start the encoder before the planned broadcast, verify that YouTube receives the feed, check the watch page, and confirm the video loops as expected. Watch stream health in Live Control Room. YouTube advises testing before going live and monitoring the stream; do not assume that a successful local OBS preview proves viewers can see a healthy YouTube feed.
- End or leave the stream deliberately. If you stop sending the encoder feed, the live broadcast ends; a looped OBS source only continues while the encoder and its computer are running. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For longer broadcasts, do not assume an automatic archive will be available. See YouTube’s encoder streaming guidance.
Choose software or hardware for the encoder
OBS is a software option that can loop a local replay file. YouTube also documents standalone hardware encoders as an alternative. Choose based on whether you have a suitable computer available, whether you need dedicated production hardware, and your budget and reliability needs. The cited guidance does not establish a minimum computer specification or recommend a particular hardware model, so confirm any device’s capabilities with its manufacturer before buying.
