Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo replay a recorded gaming video in an OBS-powered YouTube livestream, add it to your scene as a Media Source, choose the file, and enable Loop if it should repeat. You do not need a capture card for a video already saved on your computer. Connect OBS to YouTube with the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, then preview and test the feed before going live.
How do I add a video source in OBS?
- Create or select a scene. In OBS, choose the scene that will contain the replay. Add any game capture, camera, graphics, or audio sources you also want in the broadcast.
- Add a Media Source. In the Sources dock, click the plus button and select Media Source. Give it a recognizable name, then select the local gaming video file. OBS documents support for MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM files. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Set how playback behaves. Enable Loop to play the file again after it finishes. Enable Restart playback when source becomes active if you want playback to restart when the source becomes visible in the current scene. If you do not want the final frame left on screen after playback ends, enable Show nothing when playback ends.
- Arrange the source. In the Sources list, items higher in the list appear over items below them. Put the replay above the game source if it should cover the game; place it below an overlay that should remain visible. Use the eye icon to show or hide a source. OBS explains source order and visibility in its Sources Guide.
How do I loop a video in OBS?
Select the Media Source in the Sources dock and turn on Loop in its properties. OBS defines this setting as controlling whether the file plays again once playback has completed. The replay should begin again automatically at the end of the file. Use Restart playback when source becomes active as well if switching away from and back to the scene should start the clip from the beginning.
How can I play several videos as a playlist?
For multiple files, add a VLC Video Source and configure its playlist. This option requires VLC to be installed; OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. The playlist settings include looping and shuffling. For one local video, the regular Media Source is the simpler option. Details are in the OBS Media Sources guide.
How do I send the replay to YouTube Live?
- Get your stream details. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select a stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- Enter them in OBS. Open OBS Settings, then Stream. Choose YouTube as the service and enter the URL and key supplied by YouTube, following the available connection options in your OBS version. YouTube describes the stream key as the credential that identifies the feed and must be entered in the encoder; keep it private. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
- Check the feed before starting. Start the encoder feed from OBS and wait for its preview in Live Control Room. Verify that the replay is visible and moving, and that the game audio, clip audio, and microphone levels are correct. YouTube recommends previewing the encoder feed before starting the stream.
- Start the broadcast. Once the preview and audio are right, start the livestream from the Live Control Room or use the start method configured for your stream. Keep an eye on OBS audio meters and YouTube’s stream status.
OBS recommends running its Auto-Configuration Wizard for a starting configuration, then checking audio and testing with a recording or test stream before a first live session. See the OBS Quick Start Guide.

What OBS and YouTube settings matter for stream quality?
Use the Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then choose a resolution and frame rate your system and upload connection can sustain. There is no single bitrate that suits every resolution, frame rate, and stream format, so use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for your target rather than treating one bitrate as universal.
- Rate control: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Frame rate: YouTube’s encoder guidance allows up to 60 fps; choose a rate suitable for your content and connection.
- Upload headroom: Test your available upload capacity. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend keeping total bitrate within the connection’s capacity and leaving 20% headroom for variability.
Check YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and streaming tips for the current targets and preparation guidance. A connection that can sustain the selected output matters more than choosing the highest available setting.

Do I need a capture card to replay a recorded gaming video?
No. A local recording is played with a Media Source; a capture card is relevant when you need to bring a live signal from an external console or device into OBS. OBS lists capture cards and similar hardware under video capture sources. For capturing a game that is currently running, OBS says Game Capture is Windows-only; on other platforms, use the applicable Display Capture, Window Capture, or macOS Screen Capture source. That platform distinction does not affect replaying a saved video file. See the OBS Sources Guide.
Check your rights to the gameplay and audio
Before broadcasting, confirm that you have the rights needed for both the video and its audio. A gameplay recording may include the game’s footage, licensed soundtrack music, or other third-party material; owning or playing a game does not by itself establish permission to livestream every element. YouTube’s livestream terms say that the content provider represents they have the necessary rights for live content on Google services, including music licensing rights. This is a general reminder, not a determination of what a particular game’s license allows.

Troubleshooting an OBS replay on YouTube
- The video does not appear: Check that the Media Source has the right local file selected, its eye icon is on, and it is positioned where you expect in the Sources order. If another source covers it, move the replay higher or adjust the scene layout.
- The clip plays once and stops: Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop.
- The last frame stays on screen: Enable Show nothing when playback ends, or enable looping if continuous playback is intended.
- The clip starts from an unexpected point after a scene switch: Review Restart playback when source becomes active and test the behavior by switching scenes before going live.
- A VLC playlist source is unavailable or fails: Confirm VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS; OBS requires 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS. Use a standard Media Source for a single file.
- YouTube does not show an incoming feed: Confirm that the correct stream URL and key for the selected Live Control Room stream are in OBS. Treat the key as a credential and avoid sharing it.
- The preview stutters or drops: Reduce output demands or bitrate and test again. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload headroom rather than using the full measured connection capacity.
- Audio is missing or unbalanced: Check OBS audio meters, source audio settings, and microphone level in a test recording or stream before broadcasting.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a YouTube channel playing uploaded gaming videos around the clock, StreamNeo is a different option from an OBS session running on your computer. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and it streams to YouTube.
Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. It includes 10 GB of storage per slot, pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. The first day is free with no card, once per account. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or its plans, then start the free first day.
