To run a Sikh Gurbani channel on YouTube around the clock, first choose between a genuine live feed from a Gurdwara and authorized prerecorded programming. Then verify the channel’s livestream eligibility, route a rights-cleared audio/video source through an encoder, test the stream and its viewer-facing page, and plan who—or what—will recover it after a fault. A 24/7 schedule is an operating plan, not a guarantee of uninterrupted transmission.
Choose what the channel will broadcast
Live Gurdwara feed
A genuine live broadcast needs an authorized feed from the venue and a person responsible for setting up and monitoring the streaming computer and responding to problems. SikhNet’s live-broadcast requirements specify a responsible operator and an audio output from the Gurdwara sound system. Arrange the feed with the venue before connecting equipment, and confirm it can be provided without disrupting the in-house sound system.
Prerecorded programming
A continuous playlist can reduce the need for an on-site operator, but it is not a live view or live service. Obtain permission for each recording and performance, and describe the channel accurately to viewers. A useful precedent is the SGPC official live kirtan page; its existence and broadcast approval apply to SGPC’s own channels, not to another operator’s right to relay its recordings.
Prepare the YouTube channel before launch
- Verify the YouTube channel and enable livestreaming in advance. YouTube says first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours.
- Check that the account has no livestream restriction during the preceding 90 days. If it is restricted, resolve the account issue before planning a launch.
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the stream and open the encoder setup details. Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder. The key is a credential that lets the encoder send video to your stream; keep it private and share it only with trusted channel operators.

Connect the Gurdwara feed and encoder
- Take a clean audio feed. Identify an output on the sound system and confirm its connector type and signal level. Depending on the existing console and encoder inputs, you may connect directly or need an interface or mixer. A mixer is not automatically required; use one only if the existing routing cannot provide the needed feed.
- Add video where appropriate. For a venue broadcast, frame and connect the authorized camera feed as part of the production. For prerecorded programming, select the permitted video or audio material in the playback workflow rather than presenting it as a live venue view.
- Configure the encoder. Choose an encoder workflow suited to the operator’s skill, support needs, and unattended recovery plan. YouTube supports encoder streaming and identifies software and professional-grade hardware as options for different production setups.
- Enter the stream details. Paste the YouTube stream URL and key into the corresponding encoder fields. Restrict access to the key and document who is allowed to rotate or replace it.
- Start the encoder and inspect Live Control Room. Confirm that YouTube receives the expected picture and sound before making the stream public.

Set video, audio, and bandwidth for a stable feed
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 ingestion options, AAC or MP3 audio, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not over four seconds. Its recommended bitrate depends on resolution, frame rate, and codec. As one specific example, the table lists H.264 1080p at 30 fps with a recommended video bitrate of 10 Mbps. Treat the relevant entry in YouTube’s table as a starting point, not a substitute for testing the actual connection and output.

Measure available upload capacity under realistic conditions. YouTube recommends bandwidth sufficient for the stream’s total bitrate plus 20% headroom. Shared connections can leave less capacity for the stream than a general speed-test result suggests. Use a reliable wired connection where available, and test during the hours and network conditions in which the channel will operate.
Consult YouTube’s recommended encoder settings and streaming tips for current codec, bitrate, and network guidance. If you change resolution, frame rate, or codec, check the matching bitrate guidance and run another test.

Test the whole viewer experience
- Run a private or unlisted test if that suits the channel’s workflow.
- Check the incoming preview in Live Control Room for a moving picture and clear audio. Listen for clipping, hum, silence during quieter moments, or an unbalanced mix.
- Open the watch page on a separate device or connection. Confirm that the intended audience can reach it and that the page shows the expected stream.
- If you intend to keep a local recording, verify that the encoder is actually writing it and that the destination has enough available storage.
- Watch stream health during the test. Correct connection, audio, or encoder warnings before announcing a continuous schedule.
Plan continuity, monitoring, and archives
For a 24/7 operation, write down who owns the stream key, who responds after hours, how power or internet failures are handled, and how backup playback begins. Assign someone to check the viewer-facing page, not only the encoder dashboard. Run a supervised burn-in before relying on unattended operation.
YouTube recommends testing encoder failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet connection and checking that playback rolls over to the backup. If you use a backup encoder, test the actual changeover and viewer experience; do not assume that a second device alone makes recovery automatic. YouTube’s streaming tips describe failover testing.

Do not assume one indefinitely running event will archive as intended. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; the documentation does not establish archive behavior for longer continuous streams. Consider shorter scheduled events if archiving matters, and test the channel’s own Studio workflow before relying on it. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. A match may replace the stream with a placeholder image or interrupt it; continued use can lead to temporary interruption or termination, and a strike may also terminate a stream. YouTube warns that a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel has not been added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. Ask the rights holder to allowlist the channel where applicable.

For each performance and recording, document who controls the relevant recording and broadcast permissions, which platforms and territories are covered, and whether the rights holder will allowlist the channel. YouTube’s enforcement guidance explains platform handling, but it does not establish the legal status of a particular Gurbani performance or recording. If the venue needs an additional device to route its sound-system feed, “audio mixer for live streaming” is a useful search phrase. YouTube mentions mixers as one possible advanced-production component; no particular model is established as necessary.
