Yes—but only if you have the rights for the specific music and use. YouTube’s live-stream terms make the streamer responsible for obtaining the necessary rights, including music licensing rights. The official guidance reviewed does not impose a blanket ban on 24/7 streams, but YouTube scans live broadcasts and may warn, interrupt, or terminate one when it detects third-party content. A continuous stream is not automatically permitted just because it is radio-style or plays in the background.
Does YouTube ban 24/7 copyrighted-music livestreams?
YouTube’s official materials do not state that a livestream is forbidden simply because it runs for 24 hours or longer. The relevant question is whether you have the necessary rights for the music and the intended use, and whether YouTube’s live-stream enforcement allows the broadcast to continue.
YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions say the provider represents and warrants that they have the rights needed to exploit the live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. The responsibility therefore rests with the streamer; a song’s popularity, background use, or uninterrupted duration does not create permission.
YouTube Help also sets limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. Those are simultaneous-stream limits, not a stated maximum duration for an individual stream. See YouTube’s live-streaming encoder settings and limits.

What rights do you need for a continuous music stream?
Music rights can involve more than one work or rights holder. Check both the particular recording and the underlying composition, and confirm that the permission covers the way you plan to use them. Do not assume that permission to download or listen to a track, or a license for an ordinary recorded video, also permits a YouTube livestream.
- Live use: The permission must expressly cover live streaming on YouTube.
- Territory and term: Confirm where the stream may be available and for how long the permission lasts. A 24/7 broadcast must remain within the license’s scope throughout.
- Monetization: Check whether ads, donations, memberships, or other monetization are permitted under the terms that apply to your use.
- Archive or VOD: If YouTube retains a replay, verify that the rights also cover that recording. Live permission alone should not be assumed to include on-demand use.
- Conditions: Follow any attribution, reporting, or other requirements, and ask whether the rights holder requires Content ID allowlisting.
These are practical points to verify against the actual license, not a standard YouTube-issued license checklist. Keep written permission and the applicable terms so you can show what was authorized.

Why can YouTube interrupt a stream even when you have a license?
YouTube says it scans all live streams for third-party content. If it identifies protected material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn the streamer. If the content continues, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the broadcast. A copyright strike can also result in live-stream termination. See YouTube Help on live-stream restrictions.
A license does not necessarily prevent automated detection. YouTube advises licensed streamers to ask the content owner to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. Without allowlisting, a live stream may still be interrupted—even if the streamer has rights or restricts the stream to certain territories. Allowlisting is a request to the rights holder, not something a streamer can guarantee by adding a note to the video description.

Which music sources are safer for a 24/7 stream?
YouTube describes music as copyright-safe when it is public domain or you have permission to use it. It points creators to the Audio Library, original music, and the terms of third-party music licenses. Evaluate each option against the rights and conditions for your particular stream; labels such as “free” or “royalty-free” do not, by themselves, establish that continuous YouTube livestream use is allowed.
- Your own original music: Use it only if you control or have permission for all relevant rights, including any collaborators’ contributions and the recording. Check that no third-party material is embedded without clearance.
- Public-domain works: Check the status of both the composition and the specific recording in the territories where your stream can be watched. A public-domain composition does not automatically make a later recording public domain.
- YouTube Audio Library: Check the track’s stated terms and any attribution requirements. Do not assume the conditions for one track apply to every library entry.
- Third-party music license: Get written terms that expressly cover the live stream, territories, duration, monetization, and any archived replay. Confirm whether the channel must be allowlisted.
Does Creator Music let you livestream its tracks?
No. YouTube’s Creator Music usage details say tracks available for licensing or revenue sharing are for long-form videos, not livestreams or Shorts. Do not treat a Creator Music license as authorization to use a track in a continuous live broadcast. Check Creator Music usage details for the applicable terms.

Before you go live: rights checklist
- Identify the exact recording and composition you will play, including any versions, samples, or contributions from other creators.
- Read the license or obtain written permission that covers YouTube livestreaming, the intended territories, the full stream term, monetization, and any retained replay.
- Ask the rights holder whether your channel must be added to its Content ID allowlist, and arrange that before broadcasting.
- Record the permission, license version, attribution wording, reporting obligations, and any other conditions. Follow them while the stream is running.
- If you cannot establish the necessary rights for a track, do not include it; choose music whose terms you can verify for the exact live use.
What to do if YouTube flags or stops the stream
- You receive a warning or see a placeholder image: Treat it as an active rights issue. Stop or remove the identified music rather than continuing to play it while the warning is present.
- You have a license but detection continues: Contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting and confirm that your channel, track, territories, and use are covered. Having a license does not itself switch off automated detection.
- The stream is interrupted or terminated: Review YouTube’s notice and the relevant license before restarting. Do not assume that restarting the same playlist resolves the underlying rights or enforcement issue.
- You receive a copyright strike: Check the notice and YouTube’s instructions for the specific case. A strike can terminate a live stream; do not make a dispute or counter-notification unless you have a valid basis and understand the applicable process.
Whether a particular song is cleared depends on its actual rights and license scope. YouTube’s guidance does not guarantee that a specific 24/7 stream will remain live, even when the streamer believes the music is licensed.

StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Its cloud service loops the uploaded video, so nothing has to stay on at home. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
