YouTube Studio can schedule and promote an upcoming live event, but it does not create the music rotation or keep an unattended feed playing by itself.
Decide at the outset whether you want one continuous broadcast that behaves like a radio channel or separate daily broadcasts with individual event pages. The choice affects promotion, monitoring, restarts, and archives.
How do I make a daily playlist schedule for a YouTube music livestream?
Plan a full 24-hour grid in a spreadsheet or scheduling document before configuring YouTube. Choose one time zone and make every block’s start and end time clear; this prevents gaps or overlaps when operators hand off or playlists change.
Build the grid
Give each time block a listener purpose, such as breakfast, focused work, evening listening, or overnight playback. Choose themes that suit your audience—genre, mood, decade, artist, or use case—rather than assuming there is one universally effective schedule.

For each block, record:
- Time zone, start time, end time, and block name.
- Playlist or track source and approximate running time.
- How tracks transition, including whether there is a fade or a deliberate break.
- Evidence that the music is cleared for livestream use and any planned replay or archive.
- Fallback content if a playlist, file, or source fails.
- The person responsible for monitoring or handing off the stream.
Check playlist lengths against the block duration. Leave enough material for the full slot and decide what happens at the boundary: continue into the next playlist, crossfade, or make a clean transition. Test transitions in the actual playout setup so a schedule that looks continuous on paper does not create silence or abrupt changes on air.
Choose between one continuous feed and daily events
A continuous feed stays live as one ongoing broadcast, which suits a radio-style channel. Separate daily events give each broadcast its own scheduled watch page and reminder opportunity, which can make the programming feel like a series of appointments. YouTube’s Live Streaming API also documents a pattern in which a persistent 24/7 feed remains live while a second, simultaneous broadcast presents a segment from that incoming feed. That is a distinct production design, not the same as simply scheduling one event each day.

Before choosing, decide how you will handle interruptions and what viewers should see after a restart. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that a single 24-hour feed will become one complete archived video. Confirm the archive and restart behavior that matters to your channel before settling on a format.
How do I clear music for a 24/7 YouTube stream?
Confirm that you have the rights required for live use, and separately confirm that those rights cover any intended archive or replay. YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a live stream. A music subscription for personal listening, crediting the artist, or buying a recording does not by itself establish livestream rights.

Keep rights evidence with the schedule: note the relevant license or permission, the tracks it covers, and any limits on live use, territory, duration, or replay. If permission is unclear, leave that track out until it is resolved. Copyright claims or other consequences can interrupt a planned broadcast, so rights review is part of scheduling—not a task to leave until after the stream starts.
How do I schedule the YouTube broadcast?
Enable and test live streaming early
YouTube says first-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to enable. YouTube for Artists advises enabling it at least 24 hours before the planned first event and testing an unlisted stream before broadcast. Use that test to check the complete signal path, not just whether the encoder connects: listen for clean, continuous audio, check the visuals and metadata, confirm the intended stream key, and verify the schedule and transitions.

Create the scheduled event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream.
- Choose to reuse settings from a previous stream or create a new one.
- Enter the title and description, add a thumbnail, set privacy, and configure any other applicable event settings.
- Review the scheduled time and time zone against your programming grid. Scheduling makes an upcoming stream visible and lets viewers request reminders; YouTube describes the feature this way: “Scheduling a stream lets you promote your stream.”
Connect the encoder and start the event
Use the stream URL and stream key from YouTube in your chosen encoder. YouTube describes encoders as either software or hardware; dedicated hardware is not mandatory. Keep the key private, and reset it if you believe it has been exposed. When the scheduled time arrives, start the encoder, wait for the preview in the live workflow, and select Go live when prompted.
YouTube Help documents limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. If your design uses multiple simultaneous broadcasts, check the current limits and the event configuration in Studio before relying on that setup.

What should you monitor during a 24/7 stream?
Automation can run the routine playlist, but it does not remove the need to assign responsibility for rights, failures, and schedule changes. For a long-running channel, name an operator or monitoring owner for each relevant period and document how they should respond.
- Check that audio continues cleanly through track changes and schedule boundaries.
- Watch encoder connection status and the YouTube Live Control Room for interruptions or warnings.
- Use chat monitoring if chat is enabled and part of the channel’s operation.
- Keep fallback content and a restart or handoff procedure accessible to the monitoring owner.
- After an interruption or restart, check how the broadcast appears in Studio and whether the event or archive is represented as intended.
Which setup should you use for a daily music schedule?
Choose according to how much control, infrastructure, and hands-on recovery your operation needs. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders, but does not guarantee unattended playlist playout simply by scheduling a live event.
- Software encoder or playout system: a practical choice when you can maintain the computer, network connection, and software, and have a recovery plan for interruptions.
- Hardware encoder: consider it if you have decided software is unsuitable for your continuous operation and the dedicated device fits your maintenance and cost requirements. Hardware is optional, not a requirement imposed by YouTube.
- Automated versus staffed operation: playlist automation can reduce routine handling, while an assigned person still needs to own rights, monitor failures, and review the schedule.
- Horizontal versus vertical presentation: YouTube’s current help documentation says vertical live can appear in the Shorts feed. Horizontal supports live ad pre-rolls and mid-rolls, clickable links, and other listed features. Compare the current feature set and screen fit for your audience before choosing a format.
