To loop a prerecorded retro gaming video on YouTube Live from India, add the file to an OBS Studio scene as a Media Source, enable Loop, connect OBS to a stream you create in YouTube Studio, then start the encoder and confirm the broadcast in Live Control Room. Before going live, check that your channel is eligible and that you have the rights to stream the game footage and audio; looping does not make copyrighted material permissible or guarantee monetization.
What you need before you start
- A video file stored on the computer running OBS, in an aspect ratio suited to how you want it presented on YouTube.
- OBS Studio and access to YouTube Studio.
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. YouTube says streamers must be at least 16 years old. Check eligibility in Studio before setting up a long broadcast. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements
- The necessary rights to stream the game footage and any music or other audio in the recording.
The documented local-file workflow does not establish a specific minimum computer configuration. Use a machine that can run OBS and transmit the stream reliably, and test your own setup before scheduling or promoting a broadcast.
Set up a looping video in OBS and YouTube Studio
- Prepare the recording. Choose a file you have the right to stream, and keep it available locally. Decide whether its aspect ratio fits the presentation you want; avoid cropping or stretching that changes how the game appears.
- Create a scene and add the file. In OBS Studio, create or select a scene, then add a Media Source and choose the local video. In the source properties, enable Loop. - Create or schedule the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule a stream. Follow the current Studio flow to connect an encoder. YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder
- Connect OBS using YouTube’s stream details. Enter the server URL and stream key shown in Studio in OBS’s YouTube connection or stream settings. Treat the stream key as a password: do not show it in a recording, screenshot, or public chat, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Check the scene and audio. Confirm the video is visible in the OBS preview, that the file plays and loops as expected, and that the audio is present at a sensible level. A short private or unpromoted test can reveal framing, playback, or connection problems before a public stream.
- Start the encoder and confirm the broadcast. Start streaming in OBS, then check the incoming preview and status in YouTube Live Control Room. Start or confirm the broadcast there according to the current Studio flow; starting OBS alone may not be the final step to make the YouTube broadcast public.
Plan around YouTube’s live-stream limits
YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archive rule, not a promise of an indefinitely uninterrupted stream. For a long loop, monitor the broadcast and verify current account and stream limits in YouTube Studio rather than assuming a local file can run live forever. YouTube encoder guidance
Check game, music, and other rights first
YouTube’s livestream terms require you to have the rights needed to use live content on Google services. The fact that a game is old, that you own a copy, or that you are streaming a loop does not by itself establish permission to broadcast its visuals or soundtrack. Rights depend on the game, publisher, content, and intended use; if necessary, ask the relevant rights holder for permission covering the footage, audio, territory, and commercial use. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can prompt a warning, replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even if you have a licence, YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams
Understand monetization before relying on a loop
YouTube says monetizing video-game content depends on commercial-use rights granted by the game publisher. Its guidance cautions that simply showing gameplay, or using software for an extended period, may not be accepted for monetization without appropriate rights and sufficiently related instructional or educational commentary. YouTube lists ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible live-stream revenue features, subject to eligibility. Creators in India must be accepted into the YouTube Partner Programme, and individual features have their own requirements. Check your own Studio account for current feature availability rather than assuming all features are enabled for every India-based channel. Troubleshoot common loop-stream problems
The video stops instead of repeating
Open the Media Source properties in OBS and confirm Loop is enabled for the correct source. Check that the scene contains the intended file and that playback reaches its end; Loop restarts the source when the file completes.

YouTube does not show an incoming preview
Confirm that OBS is streaming to the server URL and stream key for the stream currently open in YouTube Studio. Check OBS’s streaming status and the Live Control Room preview. If the key was exposed or may be wrong, use the current key shown in Studio; do not publish it while asking for help.
The stream is interrupted or replaced
Check Live Control Room for a copyright warning or other status message. A third-party content match can interrupt or terminate a livestream; resolve the rights issue with the rights holder rather than trying to evade detection. If a licensed stream is still matched, check whether the rights holder must allowlist your channel in Content ID.

The stream is live, but monetization is unavailable
Live status does not establish monetization eligibility. Review the game publisher’s commercial-use terms, your channel’s YouTube Partner Programme status, and the requirements for the specific feature in YouTube Studio. A loop without appropriate rights and qualifying commentary is not guaranteed to earn revenue or count toward watch-hour goals.
