You can loop prerecorded video on YouTube Live from a low-end PC by preparing files the computer can decode, using OBS’s Media Source for one video or VLC Video for a playlist, then testing conservative output settings against your actual PC and sustained upload speed. No universal minimum PC specification or India-wide upload-speed requirement is established: performance depends on the encoder, resolution, frame rate, scene, files, and network.
Before you prepare the video files
Separate playback from streaming: OBS plays the local file repeatedly while its encoder sends a continuous feed to YouTube. The container format alone does not guarantee smooth playback; codecs inside a file and the computer’s decoding capability matter. Test the exact files on the PC you plan to use.
- Choose video you have the right to stream. Copyright and YouTube policy still apply to prerecorded material; a 24/7 loop does not make unauthorized content permissible.
- Keep the setup simple. Avoid unnecessary real-time conversion, effects, and complex scenes on a weak machine.
- Check channel readiness before spending time configuring OBS. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the past 90 days. First-time live activation may take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
Set up a single video loop or playlist in OBS
One video: use Media Source
- Open OBS and create or select a scene.
- In the Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source.
- Name the source, select the local video file, and enable Loop.
- Confirm that the video plays smoothly and returns to the beginning without a gap that disrupts the stream.
OBS documents Media Source support for formats including MP4, MKV, MOV, WebM, AVI, and others. A listed container is not a guarantee that every codec or file will work on every PC. If playback stutters or fails, try a compatible copy prepared ahead of time rather than adding real-time transcoding to an already weak computer.
Several videos: use VLC Video
- Install VLC in the version matching your OBS architecture.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source and create a playlist from your local files.
- Enable Loop Playlist and test transitions, audio levels, and playback through multiple passes.
VLC Video is useful for rotating through several files; Media Source avoids the separate VLC dependency for a single-file loop. OBS’s media-source documentation, dated January 11, 2022, describes these options; check the labels and behavior in your installed OBS version. See OBS Media Sources.

Choose output settings the PC and connection can sustain
Start conservatively, then adjust only after a representative test. OBS says CPU demand varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity; its system requirements do not guarantee that a particular machine can stream successfully. Its hardware-encoding guidance says a compatible GPU encoder can shift work away from the CPU, though older hardware encoders may reduce image quality compared with software encoding at the same bitrate. See OBS Hardware Encoding and OBS System Requirements.
- Run OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, not a performance guarantee.
- For a low-end PC, try 30 fps before 60 fps and use a modest output resolution. YouTube supports up to 60 fps, but OBS identifies frame rate as a factor in CPU demand; 30 fps is a practical starting suggestion, not an official minimum.
- In the encoder settings, use constant bitrate (CBR) and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- For H.264, YouTube recommends 8 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. Treat these as recommendations, not targets that every weak PC or connection must reach. If tests show the system cannot sustain them, lower output resolution or frame rate and test again.
- YouTube’s current RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1. Choose a codec your encoder supports and test it with YouTube’s ingest. The cited YouTube help pages do not show publication years for these figures and settings.
Full current guidance is in YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Measure upload speed and leave headroom
Upload capacity—not download speed—limits the stream. YouTube recommends that available upload bandwidth exceed the total outgoing stream bitrate by 20%, and warns that other people or devices sharing the connection can reduce what is available to the encoder. Measure sustained upload where and when the PC will run, with normal household or office use in mind. There is no verified India-wide speed figure that guarantees a stable stream.
A wired connection is not mandatory for every setup. If testing shows Wi-Fi instability or dropped frames, try Ethernet and compare results. YouTube’s advice on bandwidth and reliability is at Streaming tips.

Connect OBS to the YouTube stream
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select a stream and copy its stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the key using the available connection method.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish or share it; reset it if it is exposed.
- Start the OBS stream and check the incoming signal in Live Control Room before making the stream public.
YouTube’s live stream settings guide explains stream keys and stream URLs. Menu labels may vary by OBS version.
Test the full setup before relying on it
- Run a test with the actual video, audio, resolution, encoder, and connection you intend to use.
- Preview in Live Control Room; check stream health, picture, sound, and whether the loop continues as expected.
- Inspect playback on a mobile device as well as the streaming PC, and listen for gaps, clipping, or unexpectedly quiet audio.
- If you record a local archive during testing, YouTube advises checking that the file is growing.
- If you have configured a backup encoder, test failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet connection, then confirm the player switches as intended.
YouTube’s guidance says to test before going live and to monitor stream health and audio/video quality. A working encoder configuration alone does not establish uninterrupted 24/7 service: power and network interruptions remain possible, and the cited guidance does not quantify their likelihood in India.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely issue | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Video will not play or appears black | Unsupported codec, damaged file, or source configuration | Test the file locally; try another file or prepare a compatible copy in advance. Confirm the correct file is selected in Media Source or VLC Video. |
| Playback stutters or OBS struggles | Decoding or encoding load, high resolution/frame rate, or complex scene | Reduce output resolution or frame rate, simplify the scene, and test again. If available, test a compatible hardware encoder; do not assume it will improve image quality. |
| Stream drops, buffers, or reports poor health | Insufficient or fluctuating upload, shared bandwidth, or unstable Wi-Fi | Measure upload while other devices are in normal use; lower the bitrate if needed and retest. Try Ethernet if tests point to wireless instability. A cable cannot guarantee uptime. |
| Playlist stops after the last file | Loop Playlist is not enabled or the source is misconfigured | Check the VLC Video source’s playlist and enable Loop Playlist; observe it across a full cycle before going live. |
| OBS connects to the wrong or no stream | Incorrect or stale stream key, or stream selection | Copy the key from the intended YouTube Live Control Room stream and update OBS. Reset the key if it may have been exposed. |
