You can keep a waterfall video playing as a 24/7 YouTube Live broadcast by sending a rights-cleared video and audio file to YouTube through an encoder—or by using a cloud service that loops uploaded videos. For a do-it-yourself setup, enable live streaming in YouTube Studio, create a stream, enter its stream URL and key in your encoder, then test and monitor the feed. Plan for local power and internet interruptions, and do not rely on YouTube to archive one continuous 24-hour stream: broadcasts longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
Before you start: check rights and channel eligibility
Use footage and sound you have permission to stream
Use your own waterfall footage and field recording, or get permission that covers live streaming and any replay or archive use you intend to offer. YouTube’s livestream terms require you to have the necessary rights to use live content on Google services, and its copyright guidance says third-party matches can interrupt or terminate a live stream. A nature recording found in another video is not automatically cleared for reuse. Review YouTube’s Terms of Service and copyright guidance before you go live.
Enable live streaming ahead of time
Your channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable the feature before the day you plan to launch. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup instructions for current requirements.
How to stream waterfall sounds live using an encoder
- Prepare the media. Export a video file with the waterfall footage and its audio. Check that the picture and sound are synchronized, the audio is not clipping, and the file plays through without gaps or unwanted endings. Keep a copy of the source file and, if possible, a separate local recording of the broadcast.
- Create the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. In Live Control Room, use the Stream tab to create a stream or schedule one. Scheduling provides a watch page you can share in advance. See YouTube’s instructions for creating a live stream.
- Copy the connection details. In Live Control Room, copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key. Enter them in the encoder’s server and key fields. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key as a password: do not publish or share it, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Set up the encoder. Add the waterfall video as the source and configure it to loop continuously. Choose a stable video resolution and bitrate that your computer and internet connection can sustain. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance lists its current recommended settings; follow the recommendations for your selected resolution and codec rather than guessing at a bitrate. For ambient footage without live conversation, favor a stable stream over ultra-low latency: lower latency can increase buffering, while higher latency matters less when viewers do not need to interact with you.
- Check your upload connection. Make sure your available outbound upload capacity can support the encoder’s bitrate, with headroom for normal fluctuations and other devices using the connection. A speed result is not a guarantee of sustained throughput. YouTube warns that connectivity interruptions can break a stream; test under the conditions in which you plan to broadcast.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before you start the public broadcast. Listen for silence, distortion, clipping, abrupt loop points, and unwanted noise; check for a frozen picture, black frames, or an incorrect crop. Begin the broadcast only after the feed looks and sounds right.
- Monitor the broadcast. Keep an eye on YouTube’s stream health and periodically verify the audio, picture, encoder, and any local recording. A 24/7 stream needs a plan for computer, power, and internet failures; YouTube recommends testing and monitoring rather than assuming a long-running connection will remain uninterrupted. See YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance for live streams.
Choose a latency setting for ambient viewing
A waterfall ambience stream usually has no conversation or time-sensitive audience interaction. In that case, a lower-latency mode may offer little benefit, while YouTube notes that lower latency can increase buffering. Choose a more stable setting, test the actual feed, and adjust only if you have a reason to prioritize faster viewer delivery. YouTube explains the trade-offs in its live-stream latency guidance.

Can YouTube loop a video 24/7, and will it save the broadcast?
The encoder can loop your video and send a continuous feed, but a continuous 24/7 broadcast is not the same as a guaranteed complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If an accessible replay matters, use shorter broadcasts and confirm that each archive appears after the stream ends. Keep a separate local recording if you need a dependable copy. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving information.
Choose between a local encoder and cloud streaming
| Approach | What stays running | Reliability considerations | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local encoder on a computer | Your computer, encoder, and internet connection must remain available for the broadcast. | Home power, computer, or internet failures can interrupt the feed. A UPS can keep a computer and router powered through a brief power outage, but cannot protect against an internet outage. | You already have suitable equipment and are comfortable configuring and monitoring it. |
| StreamNeo cloud service | StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer does not have to stay on. | StreamNeo says it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It streams to YouTube only. | You want uploaded waterfall footage to keep playing without leaving a home computer running. |
YouTube’s encoder help also names Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 streaming of pre-recorded video. Its mention there is not an endorsement, and the available information does not establish Gyre’s current pricing, terms, or availability. See YouTube’s encoder and streaming instructions.

Troubleshooting a 24/7 waterfall stream
- You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified, eligible, and free of live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, activation may take up to 24 hours.
- The encoder will not connect: Confirm that you copied the current stream URL and key into the correct server and key fields. If you shared the key, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- The stream buffers or drops: Check YouTube’s stream health, reduce the encoder bitrate if it exceeds the connection’s sustained upload capacity, and test again with other network use minimized. A brief power or internet interruption can break a local setup; a UPS only helps with brief power loss, not a wider internet outage.
- The video or audio looks wrong: Verify the selected media source, resolution, crop, audio levels, and loop point in the encoder preview before going live. Test the full playback path rather than relying only on the source file.
- The broadcast ended but there is no full replay: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived by YouTube. Keep a local recording, or divide the broadcast into shorter sessions and verify each archive.
- The stream is interrupted by a copyright match: Stop and check the matched material and your permissions. Replace or remove any footage or audio you are not entitled to use in a livestream.
Copyright and monetization are separate questions
Having permission to stream a recording addresses rights; it does not guarantee monetization. YouTube says repetitive or mass-produced content can be ineligible under its monetization policies. A simple waterfall loop is not guaranteed to qualify, and no particular earnings or monetization outcome can be promised. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies and make sure the content meets the rules that apply to your channel.
