24/7 streaming

How to Use a YouTube 24/7 Streaming Service With a Playlist

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To stream a playlist on YouTube Live around the clock, you need more than a regular YouTube playlist: a cloud streaming service or an encoder must play your prerecorded videos and send that output to a YouTube live event. A cloud service runs the playback remotely; a self-hosted encoder runs on your computer or encoder hardware. Choose based on whether you want to manage the stream yourself or keep your own equipment offline.

What a 24/7 YouTube playlist stream is

A YouTube playlist is a collection of videos for playback, not a live broadcast. To make prerecorded videos appear as one continuous live stream, an encoder or cloud service plays them in sequence and transmits the resulting feed to YouTube. The playlist controls and scheduling options depend on the service or encoder you choose.

YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming. For the standard encoder workflow, YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its encoder instructions also list Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos.

Choose where the playlist will run

Option Where playback and encoding run What you configure What must stay available Known constraints
Cloud 24/7 service On the provider’s infrastructure Select or upload videos, connect the YouTube channel, enter stream details and schedule the run The provider’s service handles the continuous playback; the documented OneStream workflow is operated through its web or mobile app and does not require a local encoder computer to remain streaming Plan requirements and duration limits vary by provider. OneStream Live says its 24/7 feature requires Enterprise and supports a maximum duration of 30 days.
Self-hosted encoder In streaming software on your computer or in encoder hardware Create or schedule a YouTube stream, configure the encoder, provide the server URL and stream key, and arrange the prerecorded sources The computer or encoder hardware and a reliable internet connection must remain available for the stream You control the local setup but are responsible for its availability and connection quality. The reviewed official sources do not establish a specific equipment budget.

The 30-day maximum and Enterprise requirement are OneStream Live’s documented limits, not YouTube-wide rules; its help article was last updated September 3, 2026. Check the provider’s current plan terms before scheduling a long run.

Check that your YouTube channel can go live

  1. Verify the channel if it is not already verified.
  2. Check that the channel has not had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
  3. If this is the channel’s first live stream, enable live streaming well ahead of time. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
  4. Review YouTube’s current eligibility and channel limits before launch. The reviewed live-stream help page states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key; these figures can change.

See YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility guidance for the applicable channel requirements.

Set up a cloud playlist stream

Each provider has its own interface and supported video sources. OneStream Live’s current instructions describe uploads from a device, its own storage, or cloud storage such as Google Drive or Dropbox. The following sequence reflects the workflow documented for its 24/7 feature; labels and available options can change.

  1. Prepare the videos. Choose files you have the rights to stream and confirm they play correctly. Check the provider’s supported formats, upload limits, and available storage before transferring large files.
  2. Connect YouTube. Link the YouTube channel through the service’s supported connection flow. If it asks for a stream key, retrieve it from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and treat it like a password.
  3. Create a 24/7 stream. In OneStream Live’s documented workflow, create a 24-hour stream and add the videos you want to play.
  4. Set the YouTube destination and details. Choose the connected channel and enter the stream title, description, visibility, and other requested details.
  5. Schedule the broadcast. Choose an immediate start or a later schedule, set the duration, and schedule the broadcast. For OneStream Live’s 24/7 feature, the documented maximum is 30 days and an Enterprise plan is required.
  6. Preview and monitor. Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages before and during the broadcast. Test representative motion and audio rather than relying only on a static frame.

Set up a self-hosted encoder

  1. Create or schedule a live event. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream, and set its title, description, visibility, and other details.
  2. Copy the connection details. Get the YouTube server URL and stream key for the event. Enter them in your encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Do not share the key: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
  3. Arrange the prerecorded videos. Add the files to the encoder’s playlist or playback feature, in the order you want. The exact control varies by encoder; a YouTube playlist itself does not feed the encoder.
  4. Configure video and audio. Follow YouTube’s current encoder guidance for codec, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate encoding, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. The appropriate bitrate depends on resolution, frame rate, and codec, so use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution table rather than applying one bitrate to every setup.
  5. Choose the standard ingest route. For a standard encoder stream, YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its server URL and stream key tell the encoder where to send the feed. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
  6. Start with a test and check health. Start the encoder, verify the Live Control Room preview, confirm the video and audio look and sound right, then monitor stream health during the run. YouTube transcodes live feeds into multiple playback formats, but that does not remove the need to check your source and incoming feed.

When HLS is relevant

HLS is an alternative ingest route for compatible encoders and use cases, not the normal setting to choose by default. YouTube says HLS has higher latency than a continuous RTMP feed because it sends video in segments. HLS setup uses an HLS stream key and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments; the detailed format requirements are in YouTube’s HLS setup guide and HLS ingestion documentation. This technical playlist of media segments is not the creator’s playlist of prerecorded videos.

Protect your rights and plan for the stream’s end

  • Only stream or rebroadcast video, music, images, and other material for which you have the necessary rights. Being able to upload a file does not establish permission to stream it.
  • Live content must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube may age-restrict or remove streams that violate its rules.
  • Do not assume a 24/7 stream will remain available indefinitely as a replay. A universal archive duration for continuous broadcasts is not established; check YouTube’s current archive behavior and your event settings.
  • Do not promise uninterrupted operation. An encoder, connection, or platform interruption can stop the feed. Monitor the broadcast and know how your chosen service or encoder resumes playback.

Troubleshoot common setup problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check
You cannot start a live stream The channel is unverified, has a live restriction, or first-time activation is still processing Review YouTube’s eligibility requirements, check for restrictions, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
YouTube receives no video The encoder is not running, or the server URL or stream key is wrong Confirm the event’s connection details in Live Control Room, re-enter them carefully, and check that the encoder is sending to the selected event.
The stream starts but playback is unstable The encoder or connection is not maintaining the configured feed Check stream-health messages, encoder output settings, and the available connection. Compare settings with YouTube’s current bitrate and resolution guidance.
Audio or picture is missing or incorrect The source file, playlist order, or encoder audio/video configuration is unsuitable Preview representative files, check audio routing and video output in the encoder, and verify the YouTube preview before relying on the full playlist.
A scheduled cloud stream cannot run for the requested period The selected plan or provider workflow has a duration limit Check the provider’s current terms. OneStream Live documents Enterprise as required for its 24/7 feature and a 30-day maximum.
A stream is interrupted or removed A connection or encoder failure, or a platform policy issue Check the encoder and stream-health status, restore the feed if appropriate, and review YouTube’s notices and the rights and policy status of the content.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; the cloud keeps playback running without a computer, OBS, or home connection staying on. Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera. Start the free first day with StreamNeo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a normal YouTube playlist to make a live stream?

No. A regular playlist organizes videos for playback; an encoder or cloud service must send a continuous feed to a YouTube live event.

Can I run two continuous YouTube broadcasts at once?

YouTube’s API documentation describes an advanced example with a continuous broadcast and a simultaneous interview broadcast using the same stream; the continuous broadcast can carry on after the interview ends. It is not required for a basic playlist stream. See YouTube’s broadcasts and streams documentation.
