They can handle uploaded video playback and scheduling; OBS itself is an encoder, not a playlist scheduler. For a single scheduled video release, YouTube Premiere may be enough. For a conventional live event, YouTube’s scheduled event still needs an encoder to send the feed.
First, separate scheduling from streaming
A scheduled YouTube event creates an upcoming broadcast page and can give viewers a reminder. It does not, by itself, supply video at airtime: the encoder must connect using YouTube’s stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s stream settings explain the event setup, while its encoder instructions cover sending the feed.
That distinction matters when replacing OBS. If your goal is to play uploaded videos in sequence without an operator running an encoder, look for a service that explicitly supports prerecorded playlists and automatic start. If you only need to announce a live show that you will encode yourself, YouTube’s native scheduling is appropriate.

Which playlist scheduler should you choose?
For continuous YouTube playback

Before uploading, check supported file types, storage, total duration, resolution, whether one video follows the next as you intend, and the destination’s automation limits.
For one scheduled video
Consider a YouTube Premiere if you want a public watch page, reminders and chat around a single release. It is simpler than setting up a playlist broadcast when you do not need multiple videos or a continuous loop.

For an encoder-driven live show
Use YouTube’s native scheduled-live workflow if you will provide a live feed through an encoder. YouTube recommends setting up encoders at least two hours ahead and starting them at least 15 minutes before the event; those are YouTube’s operational recommendations, not a performance guarantee. - Choose the workflow and destination. Confirm that the service supports an ordered prerecorded playlist for YouTube, automatic start at your chosen time, and any required continuous looping.
- Check limits before preparing the upload. Review file types, per-file and total duration, storage, resolution, plan gates, and whether the next video begins automatically. These details can differ by service and plan.
- Upload the videos and set the order. Add each video to the playlist, arrange the sequence, and preview it. For a single file, use the service’s prerecorded video or upload-and-stream workflow instead.
- Connect your YouTube channel. Follow the service’s current authorization flow or enter the YouTube stream details it requests. Treat a stream key like a password: do not post or share it, and replace it in YouTube if it is exposed.
- Set the schedule and verify the event. Choose the date, time and time zone, then confirm the destination and whether the service starts unattended. If you want a public event page or reminders, check that the chosen workflow creates them.
- Run a test before an important broadcast. Check video and audio playback, sequence transitions, visibility and destination status. Do not assume a scheduled event page means the prerecorded feed is already configured.
When native YouTube scheduling or a Premiere is a better fit
YouTube says a scheduled stream may appear in subscribers’ feeds as upcoming. That helps promote an encoder-based live event, but the scheduled event and the actual incoming feed are separate. A Premiere is different: it is a shared viewing event for one new video, with a public watch page, reminders and chat. See YouTube’s Premiere help.
Choose between these based on what viewers should experience: a true live broadcast supplied by an encoder, a single scheduled video release, or an automatically played playlist. They are not interchangeable formats.

Common problems and what to check
The event page exists, but no video appears
A scheduled YouTube event does not provide its own feed. Check that an encoder or cloud service is connected to the correct event with the current stream URL and key, and that the provider is set to start at the scheduled time.
The playlist starts late or not at all
Check the selected time zone, schedule status, destination authorization and any plan restriction on scheduling or prerecorded streams. Confirm whether the service requires a manual start for the destination you chose.
The next video does not play as expected
Verify that the playlist order is saved and that the service supports sequential playback for the selected destination. Preview the queue and test transitions before relying on it for a long broadcast.

A continuous loop is unavailable
Looping is not implied by playlist support. Confirm that the service documents repeat or infinite-loop playback for YouTube and that the option is included in your plan. OneStream documents infinite looping for YouTube; Restream’s July 25, 2026 help describes up to 10 video loops.
The stream stops after YouTube disconnects
Check whether your service documents automatic recovery and whether it is enabled for the stream. A feature listed by one provider should not be assumed for another. For a manually operated encoder, someone may need to reconnect it.
The service will not accept the video or destination
Check file-format, size, duration, resolution and storage limits, then verify destination compatibility. StreamYard, for example, says its advance scheduling is not supported for custom RTMP destinations; the exact restrictions depend on provider and plan.

Scheduling changes when and how a video is played; it does not grant permission to use the video, music or other material in it. Use content you own or have rights to use, including music and visuals, and review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules before running a playlist repeatedly. A cloud scheduler cannot make copyrighted or otherwise policy-violating material safe to broadcast.
