You can move the encoder or video playout from OBS to a cloud service without changing YouTube as the destination. The safe approach is to document your current setup, configure and test the cloud feed with your YouTube stream URL and key, then cut over with a rollback plan. Do not assume the switch will be interruption-free: the reviewed service documentation does not guarantee a seamless handoff between encoders.

What changes when you move OBS to the cloud?

YouTube remains the destination. OBS currently sends an encoded feed to YouTube; after migration, a cloud service sends that feed instead. The new service needs the correct YouTube ingest URL and stream key, and you should verify its output in YouTube’s Live Control Room before relying on it for a continuous broadcast.

The right cloud option depends on what OBS is doing for you. A prerecorded-video channel may need continuous playout rather than a full virtual production studio. A channel built around live sources, scenes and overlays needs a way to reproduce that production workflow. A managed transcoder or custom cloud pipeline is a different category again.

Choose a cloud approach that matches your stream

1. StreamNeo for continuous prerecorded-video playout

StreamNeo is the first option to consider if your 24/7 channel plays uploaded videos: it runs the loop from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and includes a free first day.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

StreamNeo plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not replace OBS as a live camera or scene-production studio. If your broadcast depends on changing live sources, game capture, or OBS scene compositions, confirm that a prerecorded-video playout service fits before migrating.

2. Gyre for cloud-hosted prerecorded streams

YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos and says it can run without a dedicated PC. It is a more relevant category match for an existing video library than a broadcast production platform.

3. AWS Elemental MediaLive or Grabyo for different production needs

YouTube’s encoder directory lists AWS Elemental MediaLive for broadcast-grade processing and Grabyo Producer for cloud-native production workflows. Those descriptions do not make the services interchangeable with prerecorded-video playout. Check whether the chosen product reproduces the scenes, overlays, sources, output controls and operational workflow your channel actually uses.

4. A custom cloud pipeline for technical teams

Google Cloud’s Live Stream API documentation recommends SRT over RTMP when the encoder supports it, citing packet-drop recovery, forward error correction, multiple audio streams and higher bandwidth. That guidance applies to its API workflow; it is not a universal YouTube protocol requirement. A custom pipeline also means you must plan and operate the components yourself.

Before choosing, compare source type, supported protocols and codecs, reconnect and failover behavior, monitoring and alerts, YouTube key and metadata controls, recording retention, support, regional availability and total cost for your intended schedule and bitrate. Current service prices are not established here, so check the provider’s current terms before committing.

Record your OBS and YouTube settings before changing anything

Make a migration sheet while the current stream is still working. Include enough detail to recreate the intended output and to restore OBS if the cutover fails.

  • OBS production: list video and audio sources, scene order, overlays, resolution, frame rate, video bitrate, keyframe interval, audio format, and any filters or transitions the channel depends on.
  • Operations: note local recording behavior, scheduled or automated start and stop, who has account access, and how you currently notice a stream failure.
  • YouTube broadcast: record title, privacy, latency, DVR, and auto-start and auto-stop settings. YouTube allows custom stream keys for reuse; note whether the current key is reusable and which broadcast uses it.
  • Continuity needs: decide whether you need a full retained copy of the program, how quickly viewers need to see changes, and whether the stream includes interactive segments.

YouTube describes stream keys as the stream’s “password and address.” Keep the key private. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube and update the cloud encoder with the replacement.

Configure the cloud encoder for YouTube

  1. Prepare the cloud source. Upload or select the prerecorded files for a playout service, or configure the live inputs and production elements required by your chosen platform. Confirm the cloud service supports the source type, codec and protocol you intend to use.
  2. Open YouTube Live Control Room. Select or create the broadcast and locate its stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s exact screens may change; use the values shown for the broadcast you plan to send.
  3. Enter the destination in the cloud service. Set the YouTube ingest URL and stream key in the provider’s output or destination settings. Treat the key as a credential, and avoid sharing it in screenshots, chat or public configuration files.
  4. Choose a secure ingest option when available. Where the service supports it, use RTMPS for YouTube ingest. Google’s RTMPS guide defines it as RTMP tunneled through SSL and specifies a valid endpoint, port 443 and hostname SNI for authentication. If connection fails, verify that the endpoint uses the correct rtmps protocol and port rather than assuming any RTMP address will work.
  5. Set the output deliberately. Match the cloud output to the channel’s intended resolution, frame rate, audio and bitrate, and verify that the service’s limits and YouTube’s selected ingest settings are compatible. Do not copy settings blindly between platforms; requirements and recommendations are service-specific.

Test ingest, output and recovery before the cutover

Run a controlled test before making the cloud service the sole source of a public 24/7 broadcast. A successful connection indicator alone does not prove the program is correct or that reconnect behavior will work.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Start a test feed from the intended cloud source and confirm that the provider receives it.
  2. Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream status. Confirm the right broadcast is receiving the feed, not a different test or scheduled event.
  3. Watch video and audio long enough to check for black frames, missing sources, clipped or absent audio, synchronization drift, unwanted overlays and incorrect aspect ratio.
  4. Verify the actual output quality and that the selected service can sustain the intended settings. For Google Cloud’s Live Stream API input guidance, the published H.264 figures include 8 Mbps for 720p at 25–30 fps and 20 Mbps for 1080p at 50–60 fps; these are Google Cloud API recommendations, not universal YouTube requirements.
  5. Test what happens if the source or YouTube connection drops. Confirm how the service retries, how quickly it reconnects, what status or alert you can see, and what action is needed if it does not recover.
  6. Write down the rollback trigger and steps. Keep the OBS profile and YouTube settings available until the cloud output has proved stable for your operational needs.

For its own live-input service, Cloudflare recommends constant bitrate (CBR) rather than variable bitrate when possible, recommends a 2–8 second keyframe interval/GOP, requires clients to be configured to reconnect, and documents H.264 video with AAC audio input support. These are Cloudflare-specific requirements and recommendations, not settings to impose on every cloud provider.

Cut over with a rollback plan

  1. Pick a lower-risk window. Avoid switching during a segment where a brief interruption would be especially costly. Tell anyone sharing channel operations what will change and who is responsible for rollback.
  2. Start the cloud output and verify it in YouTube. Confirm the preview and stream status correspond to the intended broadcast before treating the new source as live.
  3. Stop or disconnect OBS only when the cloud feed is confirmed. Switching encoders may interrupt the stream; the reviewed official material does not promise zero downtime or a seamless handoff.
  4. Rollback if the output is wrong or unstable. Stop the cloud output, restore the documented OBS configuration and reconnect it to the correct YouTube destination. Check the Live Control Room again rather than assuming the old encoder has taken over.
  5. Monitor after the change. Watch the cloud service’s source and output status and YouTube’s stream status. Keep a response path for a dropped source, failed reconnect, wrong broadcast selection or exposed key.

Plan separately for latency and full-length archives

Latency and DVR

YouTube explains that lower latency can increase playback buffering, while DVR lets viewers pause and rewind during a live stream. For a mostly passive loop, lower latency may not matter unless the channel interacts with viewers; choose settings based on the actual viewing experience you need.

Recording a 24/7 program

YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that a single 24-hour broadcast will appear as one complete archive. If you need the full program retained, plan an intentional recording and segmentation workflow and verify where the files are stored and how long they remain available.

Cloudflare separately documents that recordings of its live videos longer than seven days are truncated to seven days. That is a Cloudflare recording limit, not a YouTube archive rule.
