Neither option is always cheaper. Compare the electricity used by your PC during the hours you play with the actual cloud-gaming pass you would buy, using the marginal electricity rate on your household bill. Your PC’s measured wall draw, local tariff slab, and gaming schedule determine the answer.
How to compare the costs fairly
For your PC, estimate energy cost from its average power draw while gaming—not the maximum wattage printed on its power supply:
PC energy cost = (average watts ÷ 1,000) × hours × marginal ₹/kWh
Use a wall-power measurement if you have one. Otherwise, label the wattage as an assumption. An official WBSEDCL estimator likewise uses wattage, appliance count, hours per day, and consumer type, and notes that its estimate excludes some other charges: WBSEDCL electricity consumption calculator.

For cloud gaming, divide the price of the pass you would actually buy by the gaming hours or days you expect to use it. A calendar-day average can be misleading: a subscription still costs money on days you do not play, while a short pass might only be bought on playing days.
Worked example: an assumed 300 W PC for eight hours
At an explicitly assumed average draw of 300 W, eight hours of gaming uses 2.4 kWh: 0.300 kW × 8 hours. The following rates are from one official tariff schedule, Lakshadweep’s domestic LTDS-II schedule for FY 2026-27; they are not representative national rates.

JioGames lists its Pro Pass at ₹398 for 28 days, which averages approximately ₹14.21 per calendar day if spread evenly. That is not necessarily the cost of one gaming session: compare the pass’s actual duration with your expected play schedule. The arithmetic above is illustrative, not a prediction of your bill or a measured test. PC draw, gaming hours, tariff, and chosen cloud plan can all change the result.
Why your electricity rate is not a national constant
India has no single household electricity rate for this calculation. The Ministry of Power says retail tariffs are determined by the appropriate electricity regulatory commissions, and state subsidies can apply to consumer classes including domestic users. Check your current bill and tariff schedule for the marginal energy charge relevant to your consumption.

For scale, Lakshadweep’s Department of Electricity lists domestic LTDS-II FY 2026-27 rates of ₹3.55/kWh for 0–100 units, ₹5.30 for 101–200, ₹7.70 for 201–300, ₹10.05 for 301–400, and ₹13.05 above 400 units, plus a ₹25/kW monthly fixed charge. These figures apply to that schedule and year only: Lakshadweep FY 2026-27 tariff order.
The Ministry of Power’s 2023 release describes time-of-day tariff provisions with rates 10–20% below normal during specified solar hours and 10–20% higher during peak hours. Do not assume those adjustments apply to your household; check your tariff and whether the relevant smart-meter provisions apply: Ministry of Power reforms and achievements.

What each option actually buys
Local gaming and cloud gaming are not identical bundles, so compare the service you will use rather than electricity and subscription prices alone.
- Local PC: You can use an owned PC for more than gaming, and you may already own the games you want. Its purchase or depreciation cost is not included in the energy calculation.
- Cloud gaming: You pay for access to a service’s offering, and need a compatible client device and stable internet. JioGames says its passes can be played on TV, PC, tablet, and mobile, with controller support; check its current catalogue and pass terms before choosing: JioGames.
- Other costs: The comparison above excludes internet, client-device power, game purchases, ancillary fees, and the cost of buying or depreciating a PC. Include these if they would change your decision.

- Find the marginal energy charge and any applicable time-of-day rate on your current electricity bill or tariff schedule.
- Measure your PC’s average wall draw during a typical gaming session, or clearly mark your wattage estimate as an assumption.
- Multiply watts ÷ 1,000 by your gaming hours and the applicable ₹/kWh rate.
- Choose the cloud pass you would really buy, then compare its price with your expected gaming days or hours—not an assumed daily price.
- Check catalogue and game ownership, device compatibility, internet reliability, and any hardware or games you would buy solely for one option.
