Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →First find out whether the YouTube broadcast actually ended or playback stopped only on your TV, app, or device. Ask another viewer on a different device or network to check, and look in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. If viewers elsewhere still see the stream, troubleshoot the affected device; if the broadcast is down for everyone, check the encoder, connection, stream health, and policy notices.
Identify what stopped
“My 24/7 stream keeps stopping” can describe two different failures: the creator’s encoder stopped sending video to YouTube, or one viewer’s playback froze, buffered, or ended. The fix depends on which happened.
- Only one viewer or device is affected: Check playback on another device or connection. If the stream continues there, focus on the original device, YouTube app, or network.
- Many viewers on different connections are affected: Check YouTube Studio and the encoder. A broadcast-wide failure is more likely to involve the source, encoder, outbound connection, or a YouTube policy notice.
- The live event is active but a viewer cannot watch: The broadcast may still be running even though one playback path has failed.
Record when the problem began, which devices and viewers were affected, the exact Studio error and timestamp, and whether the encoder’s local recording kept going. Those details help distinguish a source or ingest failure from a playback problem.
If the broadcast stopped for everyone
Check Live Control Room and stream health
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room for the affected event.
- Check the stream-health indicator and read errors with their timestamps. Compare the error time with the moment viewers lost the stream.
- Confirm whether YouTube is receiving encoder data. In YouTube’s API lifecycle documentation, an active stream status indicates that YouTube’s servers are receiving data from the encoder correctly: Life of a Broadcast.
A health warning or a change in stream status is more useful than assuming the event stopped because it had been live for a long time. Match the message and timing to what the encoder and local recording were doing.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Inspect the encoder and its source
- Confirm the encoder is still streaming to the intended YouTube event with the correct stream key and destination.
- Check the encoder preview or output. If the picture or sound is already wrong there, inspect the media source, playback, audio routing, and encoder errors.
- Check CPU load and whether the encoding process stalled or closed. A heavily loaded computer can fail to produce a stable output.
- If you record locally, confirm the file is present and still growing. A healthy local recording with a failed YouTube stream points toward the outbound connection or delivery path; a local file that also stops points back toward the source or encoder.
Test the outbound connection
If the encoder output looks and sounds healthy but viewers lose the stream, test the connection carrying the stream to YouTube. Look for a drop or instability at the same timestamp as the Live Control Room error. YouTube’s creator guidance distinguishes problems in encoder output from problems in the encoder’s outbound connection: Troubleshoot live streams.
For future broadcasts, test with representative motion and audio, inspect the Live Control Room preview, verify the event on the channel or watch page and on mobile, monitor quality, and confirm the local archive file is growing. If you use a backup encoder, test failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable, then verify that playback switches to the backup: Live streaming tips.
Check encoder settings that can disrupt delivery
Use a resolution and bitrate your upload connection can sustain, then test the stream using the kind of motion and audio it will carry. Monitor the actual health warnings rather than relying on a setting that looks correct on paper.

- Bitrate: Keep it within what the upload connection can sustain consistently. If the connection cannot carry the chosen bitrate, reduce the load or improve the connection and test again.
- Rate control: YouTube lists CBR (constant bitrate) as a recommended encoder setting.
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Format: If YouTube reports an incorrect format, its error guidance says to use H.264 video and AAC audio.
Check YouTube’s current live encoder settings and troubleshooting guidance alongside your encoder’s current documentation. The specific Live Control Room warning should guide the fix.

If playback stopped only on a TV or device
When other viewers can still watch, work through the affected playback path before changing the creator’s encoder.
- Test the connection. If possible, try another internet connection. For Wi-Fi, test near the TV, keep the device within router range, reduce interference, and limit other network traffic. YouTube recommends a minimum connection speed of 7 Mbps for HD streaming; that is guidance for HD playback, not a guarantee that every stream will play without interruption.
- Check playback quality. Try selecting a lower quality manually if playback buffers. This can help identify whether the current connection or device is struggling with the selected quality.
- Restart the app and device. Quit and reopen YouTube. If needed, sign out and back in, restart the TV or streaming device, and install available system updates.
- Compare with another playback path. Try another supported device. For a TV-specific check, play YouTube on another device and cast it, or connect a laptop to the TV with HDMI.
If laptop playback over HDMI works while the TV’s YouTube app does not, the TV app or device path is a more likely problem. HDMI is only a diagnostic alternative for playback; it cannot restore a broadcast that has ended at its source. Does a stream stop after 12 hours?
Not necessarily. YouTube’s 12-hour guidance concerns DVR and archiving, not a universal timer that ends every live broadcast. DVR lets viewers pause and rewind, but YouTube says it may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours; Apple TV, AirPlay, and older app versions have lower limits. Archiving is separate: YouTube says it can archive streams under 12 hours and warns that “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” It recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. See YouTube’s pages on DVR on live streams and archiving live streams.
If your stream appears to stop at a regular interval, compare each incident with the encoder’s start and stop behavior, any host or device sleep or restart, the connection, and the timestamped Studio errors. YouTube documents encoder auto-start and auto-stop controls, and its broadcast lifecycle guidance ties automatic start/end behavior to transmission from the encoder. Check the controls and lifecycle guidance at YouTube’s live stream settings and Life of a Broadcast. A repeatable timing pattern alone does not establish a YouTube-wide time limit.
Check for copyright or policy interruptions
A stream can be interrupted for reasons unrelated to the network. YouTube says a match to third-party content can replace a live stream with a placeholder and warn the creator; if the issue is unresolved, the stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a live stream.

Check YouTube Studio for a strike, warning, or other policy notice before treating a policy-related interruption as an encoder fault. If you have a license for third-party material, that alone does not guarantee the live stream will continue: the rights holder may also need to allowlist your channel through Content ID.
