Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteEnd each YouTube radio broadcast before it reaches 12 hours, then start a new stream for the next session. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording as a backup, and manage each finished replay separately from the live stream’s DVR settings.
How do I stop my YouTube livestream archive from getting too long?
Use separate broadcast sessions instead of letting one stream run indefinitely. Choose a schedule that fits your programming, with a practical buffer below YouTube’s 12-hour boundary so a delay does not push the stream past it. YouTube’s Help page, “Archive live streams,” says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” The page does not prescribe an ideal session length.
A daily handoff or another scheduled break can create manageable replays while keeping the radio programming continuous. If uninterrupted programming matters, prepare the next stream before ending the current one. YouTube’s encoder workflow supports scheduled streams and reusing prior stream settings; the precise setup depends on your encoder.
Will YouTube save a livestream longer than 12 hours?
Do not rely on it. YouTube says a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured, so the replay might not be available afterward. The documented guidance is that streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; it is not a guarantee that every shorter stream will be captured.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Record locally as well as streaming. YouTube Help recommends a local archive as a backup. Check that the recording completed and plays before relying on it for retention. The storage required depends on the recording format and bitrate, so there is no universal drive-size estimate.
How to manage a finished YouTube live replay
- Open YouTube Studio. Go to Content, then select Live to find the completed broadcast.
- Choose what should happen to the replay. Edit its visibility if you want to retain it in your account but limit who can watch, or delete it if you do not want to keep that replay.
- Organize retained broadcasts. Add replays and highlight clips to playlists if that helps viewers navigate the channel. A playlist organizes videos; it does not shorten an individual replay or change its visibility.
Private or unlisted versus delete
Changing visibility retains the replay while changing audience access. Deleting removes that replay from the channel. Choose based on whether you want a channel copy and who should be able to access it; check the visibility option shown in Studio before saving.

Why DVR does not shorten the archive
DVR is a viewer control for pausing and rewinding during a live broadcast, not an archive-length setting. YouTube notes that DVR can be limited or unavailable on very long streams. Turning DVR off does not stop a recording from appearing after the stream, so manage the replay separately in YouTube Studio.
