YouTube lets you schedule an upcoming live event so viewers can find it and set reminders, but its documented encoder workflow does not establish that YouTube will automatically start and stop a continuous feed at clock times. Scheduling an event, controlling an encoder, and automating a 24/7 stream are separate things.
What YouTube scheduling does—and does not—do
In YouTube Studio, you can open Live Control Room, choose Manage, and schedule a stream. The upcoming event can be promoted, and viewers can opt into notifications. That schedules the event listing; it is not documented as automatically starting the encoder feed at the scheduled time.
YouTube also has auto-start and auto-stop settings. YouTube describes these as allowing you to start or stop streaming from the encoder. Its help page does not describe them as a timetable that launches or ends the encoder at a chosen time of day. So don’t treat these settings as a clock-based start-and-stop schedule.
For an encoder stream, YouTube’s documented workflow has the creator connect an encoder using a stream URL and stream key, start the encoder, wait for a preview, and select Go live. To finish, stop sending content and select End Stream. See YouTube’s Manage live stream settings and Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Choose the workflow that matches your goal
To announce a future live event
Schedule the event in Live Control Room and share its upcoming page. That helps viewers discover the event and set reminders. You still need to arrange how the feed itself will be started when it is time to go live.
To start or stop an encoder feed manually
Use YouTube’s documented encoder sequence: connect with the stream URL and key, start the encoder, check the preview, and click Go live. When finished, stop the encoder’s outgoing content and click End Stream. Auto-start and auto-stop can change how the encoder controls streaming, but YouTube’s documentation does not establish that they perform those actions at specified clock times.

To run a prerecorded feed continuously
You need a streaming setup or service that can keep sending the feed and handle the intended start and stop behavior. Do not assume that scheduling an upcoming YouTube event provides this automation. Confirm that the service you choose supports the schedule you need and that its operation matches YouTube’s stream workflow.
What to know about streams longer than 12 hours
YouTube Help says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That statement concerns archiving; it does not say that longer incoming feeds are prohibited. Separately, YouTube warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. DVR is a viewer playback feature, not evidence that a continuous feed will or will not start automatically. See Turn on DVR on live streams.
