Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →You can run a 24/7 Sikh kirtan radio stream on YouTube by sending a rights-cleared audio rotation, paired with a static or simple visual, from an encoder to YouTube Live. First verify and enable the channel, secure permission for every recording and musical work, then configure the encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and private stream key. A computer-based encoder is the do-it-yourself route; StreamNeo is a cloud option for looping uploaded videos without leaving a computer running.
Before you start: channel access and music rights
Qualify the YouTube channel
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so complete this before your planned launch. Check YouTube’s current live streaming tips for channel requirements and setup guidance.
Clear every recording and musical work
Religious or devotional subject matter does not make a commercial recording free to rebroadcast. Confirm that your station has the necessary rights for both the underlying musical works and the particular sound recordings in the rotation. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions make the provider responsible for having the necessary rights and complying with applicable laws, rules and regulations. Requirements depend on your location and the rights status of each recording; this guide cannot determine the permissions needed in a particular jurisdiction.
Keep written authorization or other evidence of the permissions you rely on. If content is claimed through Content ID, ask the relevant rights owner whether it must allowlist your channel. YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content; a match can replace the stream with a placeholder and may interrupt or terminate it, even if you believe you have a license. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Choose how to send the station feed
Software encoder for a prerecorded rotation
For a playlist of prerecorded kirtan audio with a static visual, use an encoder that can play the program feed and send it to YouTube Live. YouTube supports encoder workflows using either software or standalone hardware. The exact software, supported formats, bitrate, codecs and connection requirements depend on the encoder and your feed; the YouTube overview does not establish a single setting suitable for every station. Check the chosen encoder’s documentation and validate the setup with a test stream before relying on it.
Hardware encoder or external audio for a live input
A standalone hardware encoder can suit a more involved production. If you are capturing performers or feeding a physical mixer, the setup may also need an audio interface, mixer or microphone. Those are conditional production inputs, not mandatory equipment for a prerecorded program file. Confirm that any selected encoder accepts your actual source connections and can run continuously in your intended setup. YouTube describes the available encoder approaches in its encoder setup guide.

Set up a DIY encoder stream
- Prepare the rotation. Assemble only recordings for which you have the necessary rights. Choose the static visual or other video element that will accompany the audio, and verify that the encoder can keep the program playing in the sequence you intend.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule a live stream using the encoder workflow. YouTube provides a stream URL and stream key for the connection; exact labels and screens can change, so follow the current YouTube encoder instructions.
- Enter the connection details in the encoder. Copy the YouTube stream URL and key into the corresponding encoder fields. Treat the key as a credential: anyone with it may be able to connect an encoder to your stream. Do not publish or share it; if exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube’s stream settings.
- Start a test transmission. Send the feed and wait for the Live Control Room preview. Check that audio is audible and continuous, the visual is present, and the stream is reaching YouTube as expected. YouTube recommends checking the preview and monitoring audio and video quality; test before depending on the setup.
- Go live and monitor the session. Start the broadcast through the encoder and YouTube’s live workflow. Keep an eye on playback and connection status, and have a person and recovery plan available for encoder, power or internet failures. A 24/7 schedule needs a plan for session transitions rather than an assumption that one session will remain uninterrupted indefinitely.
Plan session transitions and archives
YouTube’s cited encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a session lasting 12 hours or more will produce one complete archived video. Decide whether you need an archive, how you will divide or restart sessions, and how transitions will be managed before launch. The cited YouTube guidance does not prescribe a restart cadence for an always-on radio station.
Troubleshooting a kirtan live stream
- You cannot enable livestreaming: confirm that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. If this is the first enablement, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: check that the stream URL and key were copied into the correct encoder fields and that the encoder is sending. Keep the key private; replace it if it may have been exposed.
- The Live Control Room preview is missing or poor: inspect the encoder’s output and source playback, then check the audio and video in the preview. Test the feed before launching the station, and consult the specific encoder’s documentation for settings; there is no universal bitrate or codec value established for every setup here.
- The stream is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder: check YouTube’s copyright notices and identify the matched recording. Resolve the rights issue with the relevant owner; if you hold permission, confirm whether the owner must allowlist your channel in Content ID.
- The archive is incomplete or absent: check the session length and archive expectations. YouTube’s cited automatic-archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours; plan transitions if your station runs longer.
- The station stops during an unattended period: check the encoder, power and internet connection, and arrange monitoring and a recovery procedure. A local encoder depends on the equipment and connection that are running it; assess those conditions before treating the setup as continuous.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the upload from the cloud, so no computer, OBS or home connection has to stay on. It is for uploaded video playback, not going live from a camera.
