For a truly continuous YouTube loop, StreamNeo is the closest fit: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer can be off. Among the Vimeo-related alternatives covered here, OBS gives you the most direct control over a local looping source; Restream Upload & Stream is for scheduled prerecorded events with a finite replay limit; and StreamYard is a browser studio for producing shows, not a documented unattended 24/7 loop. You may not need to leave Vimeo at all if your plan supports simulcasting to YouTube.
Choose by the kind of “loop” you need
These tools solve different problems. A video repeating as a source in a locally operated live stream is not the same as a prerecorded event replaying a set number of times, or a video playing as part of a produced studio show. Decide whether you need hands-off continuous playback, a scheduled event, or a live production workflow before switching services.
| Option | Playback model | Setup and computer load | Best fit and limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Uploaded videos or playlists loop from the cloud to YouTube. | Upload, add your YouTube stream key, and start the stream; your computer need not stay on. | Best fit here for a continuous, unattended YouTube loop. One flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with the first day free. |
| OBS Studio | Local media source can be configured to loop; playlists are possible with VLC Video Source when VLC is installed. | Production and encoding use your computer’s resources; setup and source control are local. | Good for scene control and a DIY loop. The sources reviewed do not establish universal minimum hardware or unattended uptime. |
| Restream Upload & Stream | Scheduled prerecorded event using a single video or playlist; a scheduled video can replay up to 10 times. | Hosted scheduling and distribution reduce the need to run the event from your own computer. | Good for a finite scheduled event or replay run, not an unlimited loop. |
| StreamYard | Browser studio for shows and clips; MP4 or GIF backgrounds are a separate feature. | Browser-based production and guest workflow. An OBS virtual-camera workaround is advanced and can use substantial CPU, GPU, and RAM. | Good when guests and studio production matter. Background or clip playback is not a documented hands-off continuous loop. |
| Vimeo | Livestream events can simulcast to YouTube on eligible plans. | Configure the Vimeo event and destinations; the Livestream Studio YouTube workflow uses RTMP. | Keep Vimeo if its current plan and event workflow meet your needs; simulcasting has plan requirements. |
Best options for keeping a YouTube stream running
1. StreamNeo — cloud looping for continuous playback
StreamNeo is the most direct choice in this list for a YouTube channel that should keep playing uploaded videos when your computer is off. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops it from the cloud and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It plays uploaded video, not a camera feed, and streams to YouTube only. Every slot supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps without re-encoding or quality tiers, and includes 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and team support. The product is the same across plans; only the billing period changes. See StreamNeo for current details.
2. OBS Studio — local control and DIY looping
Choose OBS if you want to control media sources, scenes, and a locally encoded YouTube stream. A vendor-authored StreamYard comparison, updated January 10, 2026, describes OBS Media Source options for loading formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and GIF, with looping, restart, and end-of-playback behavior. It also describes VLC Video Source playlists when VLC is installed. These are documented workflow descriptions, not independent hardware or uptime tests. OBS uses your computer’s CPU and other resources, so the machine and connection must remain available for the stream to continue.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Restream Upload & Stream — scheduled prerecorded events
Restream’s Help Center article dated July 25, 2026 describes scheduling a prerecorded video or playlist and replaying a scheduled video up to 10 times. The video is prerecorded, while the event can still have real-time chat. This finite replay setting is useful for an event or limited replay run; it does not establish unlimited 24/7 playback.
4. StreamYard — browser production, not an unattended loop service
StreamYard lists YouTube as a native destination, and its Help Center says prerecorded streams can be scheduled up to 365 days ahead. Its background documentation allows MP4 or GIF files as stream or recording backgrounds, but does not support video backgrounds as virtual or green-screen backgrounds. It describes OBS as an advanced virtual-camera workaround and warns that it can be resource-intensive. Treat these as studio and production workflows rather than a dedicated continuous video-loop service. Custom RTMP destinations are available with some feature limitations.

5. Keep Vimeo if its simulcast plan works
Replacing Vimeo is not essential if your current account has the feature you need. Vimeo’s Help Center says simulcasting to YouTube is available on Advanced or Premium, or on Enterprise with Events added. It documents up to 10 integrated destinations and up to 20 custom RTMP destinations; these are current documented limits, not independent performance figures. Vimeo also says Livestream Studio sends to YouTube via RTMP using YouTube’s Stream URL and Stream Key, a workflow change it identifies as introduced in October 2024. Check feature eligibility in your account because plan terms can change.

- Prepare the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream and retrieve its stream key and server/stream URL. Keep the key private; anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your event. Follow YouTube’s live-stream eligibility and copyright rules for your account and content.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube if available, and connect the account or choose a stream-key connection. If using a key, enter the one for the intended YouTube event, then apply the settings.
- Add your video. In the scene’s Sources area, choose + and add a Media Source. Select the local video file. Enable the source’s looping option if you want it to restart when playback ends; configure restart or end-of-playback behavior to suit the scene. If you need a playlist, OBS’s VLC Video Source workflow requires VLC to be installed.
- Set output to match your source and connection. In OBS, check Settings > Video for base and output resolution, and Settings > Output for encoder and bitrate. YouTube’s recommended live encoder settings vary with resolution and frame rate; consult its current live encoder settings rather than copying a universal bitrate. YouTube also recommends a 2-second keyframe interval in its encoding guidance. Avoid output settings beyond what your computer and upload connection can sustain.
- Check the preview and start the broadcast. Confirm the picture and audio in OBS, then start streaming and verify that YouTube Studio receives the signal before sharing the live page. Monitor the computer, network, and YouTube event while it runs; a local loop stops if the machine or connection stops.

Local versus hosted trade-offs
- Local OBS: no hosted loop service is needed for playback, but your computer and internet connection must remain on and able to sustain the stream. Actual hardware needs depend on the source and output settings; no universal minimum is established here.
- Hosted service: reduces dependence on your own computer, but check the exact replay model, destination support, plan terms, recovery behavior, and stream-duration rules. Restream’s documented replay cap is finite; StreamYard’s documented background feature is not a continuous loop.
- Vimeo: could avoid a migration, but only if your plan includes the required simulcast feature and its event workflow suits the channel.
Copyright, YouTube rules, and reliability checks
- Rights still apply to prerecorded material. A video being streamed as “live” does not remove copyright obligations. Ensure you have the rights or permissions for video, music, and other included material. Review StreamNeo’s copyright safety checklist as a preparation aid, not a substitute for rights clearance or YouTube’s policies.
- Monetization is a separate question. A continuous feed or reused material is not automatically eligible for monetization; check YouTube’s current monetization policies and account-specific status rather than assuming that live presentation changes the content’s status.
- Check YouTube eligibility. Live-stream access and account requirements can apply. Confirm eligibility in YouTube Studio before planning a scheduled launch.
- Verify unattended behavior. Before committing to any hosted service, confirm its current uptime terms, restart behavior, stream duration, account eligibility, and handling of YouTube disconnects. The documented feature descriptions here do not establish a universal uptime guarantee for the alternatives.
Troubleshooting common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| OBS connects, but YouTube shows no picture | Wrong event/key, source not visible, or output configuration mismatch. | Confirm the intended event and stream key in YouTube Studio, verify the media source is active and visible in the OBS preview, and check the output resolution and encoder settings against YouTube guidance. |
| Video plays once and stops | Looping is not enabled, or source end-of-playback behavior is not configured to restart. | Open the Media Source properties in OBS and check looping and restart behavior. For VLC playlists, confirm VLC is installed and the intended playlist is selected. |
| Stream drops when unattended | Local machine sleep, app closure, network interruption, or an encoder failure. | For OBS, keep the computer awake, OBS open, and connection stable; monitor the stream. If unattended operation is the priority, use a cloud loop and verify its documented recovery behavior. |
| Playback stutters or OBS reports overload | Computer or upload connection cannot sustain the selected output settings. | Lower output resolution or frame rate, reduce bitrate in line with YouTube’s recommendations, and close unnecessary applications. Test the configuration before a long event. |
| Hosted event will not replay as often as expected | The service’s replay behavior is limited rather than indefinite. | Restream documents a maximum of 10 replay times for a scheduled video; schedule another event or use a service designed for continuous looping if that limit does not meet the need. |
| Vimeo does not offer YouTube as a destination | The account plan may not include simulcasting, or the current event setup may differ. | Check whether the account is Advanced or Premium, or Enterprise with Events, and verify current eligibility in Vimeo’s account settings. |
